    Hi from northeast England Matt 👋 Thanks for showing us all these interesting places. Totally agree with you on the motorcycle travel bug. I travelled solo from Newcastle upon Tyne to St Moritz & back on my ZZR last month & will spend the winter looking forward to my next adventure. Keep up the good work buddy! 😉👍

    Cracking video Matt. We all know road trips are wonderful things. Buy the Harley, enjoy it. We regret the things we don't do. Good summer buddy

    I did 2 3500mile tours around Europe on a 883R, got a tall sissy bar and strapped a bag to it . Mine had forward controls which made it comfortable on the legs but meant you need a good seat as more weight on your backside. I had slip on pipes and a S&S air filter, once it was tuned improved the ride no end. Fuel injection is better for riding in the mountains (alps) as it adjusts the mix automatically, carbs need adjustment or run rough in my experience at altitude. I doubt you'll regret buying a sporty! 👍

      Thanks for the comment. The sporty does look like a fun bike to tour on. It's definitely going to happen at some point! Not sure whether forward controls or mid would suit me better.

    Good luck finding a Girlster. Injectors rarely fell, it's just modern fuel is crap and block fuel lines/injectors when stood for a while. Got a drawing of the pier at the bottom of the stairs, was a pez for my mum as part of her family lived there. Mum grow up in Backwell. Thanks for reply on other vid. 👍

    I lived in portishead, pill and finally nailsea before moving back to wales. I remember when the mardyke pub was a huge biker hangout.

    Hi, you are, in my opinion, correct
    About motocycle touring.
    My motocycle touring abroad started in the late 60s
    Even when I was on a world cruise in 2001, I kept thinking I wish I was on my motocycle.

    I think thats 100% natural feeling.
    I think any trip, big or small makes you long for more.
    The bigger the trip though, the stronger the thoughts of just wanting to jump straight back out and do it all again.
    Personally i really enjoy the planning side of a trip too, so for me its the whole build up to execution as well. Then when youre done and back... Youre left almost empty because you couldve been planning that trip for months in reality.
    Good video and topic.

      Very true. I'm not a big planner, but the run up feels like an age and then it's all over before you know it. Bit like being a kid looking forward to Christmas - it's all over in about 2 minutes!

    I was a late comer to biking; got my first bike (around 2007) at about age 47 I think , it was a 1999 Sporster and my god, the confidence that bike gave me after only two and a half hours riding was huge. In fact, if I’d had the cash I would have gone back into HD and bought an ultra glide the next day. Really nice bikes but of course not for everyone. Stay safe

    • @thebristolthunderbird
      @thebristolthunderbird  5 місяців тому

      That's really cool to hear mate. Nice to find a bike that gave you so much confidence, that's such an important, and safe, part of riding as you know. Nice you're keeping the Harley flame alive too!

    I get you Matt I recently did a 5 day ride around France and Belgium and now I keep thinking of where I need to go next. As for a second bike yep I got that in my head too......

    • @thebristolthunderbird
      @thebristolthunderbird  5 місяців тому

      Sounds like a nice trip mate. France is such a lovely country to ride in. I think I might do a France road trip one day.

    • @rokhnroll
      @rokhnroll 5 місяців тому

      @@thebristolthunderbird French roads are less congested and the road surface is considerably better than the UK and Belgium. Even the French Motorways are nice to ride. Definitely worth a road trip. My next plan is Luxembourg via France.

    I'm just planning my next tour after having been 3 days in the Black Forest last month. If I ride out on any given day, east of where I live, for a couple hours, and the ride back (towards west) is going well and the weather is fine, i'll often think, "why can I not carry on till I reach Calais"? It's been so many years since I last rode in England, so that is what i'm planning right now. I 've found a Calais/Dover ferry crossing for just £42, so that just has to be taken advantage of!
    Yep, I get'cha on the Sportster argument, I was one of those who also said "NO", when you first mentioned it but i've had 2nd thoughts. They say, "where there's a will, there is a way" I mean, look at Iggs'n'Mort doing their journey (who you were definately referring to), going not just sooo far on a Sporty, but doing it two-up on a 883. So go do it Matt, bugger the others!! If I ever had a Sporty again, it would defo be the 883R, I borrowed one for a half day some years ago, loved it.
    Hey, this was a short but sweet journey, that you took us on, annd in a corner of the country that I hardly know, despite growing up in the south. I bet that beautiful "little" Pier is grade-listed? I say little coz I was used to the Brighton Pier growing up, somewhat bigger than here, but then again, Brighton was never built with a Ferry in mind, as was Clevedon not designed for Amusement arcades! The little chat you had with us on the beach was most enjoyable. It's always interesting to listen to your thoughts and life experiences, spoken with your easy listening voice.
    Every time we see that narrow squeeze along the side of ya house, I think, " next time, I must look how scratched his wing mirrors are..., but I always forget! Thanks, a good video..., yet again!

      All the parking is free on the beach. Cars are limited to 3 hrs. Don’t think there’s any restrictions on bikes - it’s normally pretty quiet tbh.

    My advice. As a long-time lover of any brand. It has to pass the chair test. Bring a folding chair with you, and park it away from the bike. You have to love looking at it from that position, i mean, really love looking at it.. Not on it or standing next to it. Where it brings a wide grin on your face. Remember, you have to live with it.

    It’s pronounced ‘Tints-field’!

      @thebristolthunderbird  5 місяців тому

      I know, that's what the guide said when I was last there looking around the house. She was the only one who pronounced it like that though. I think the change in pronunciation might be too late for me....
