I have a longines conquest. 39mm auto. I LOVE it. Has a kind of explorer vibe. Bulletproof, 300m resistance. Most expensive watch I’ve purchased but makes me feel like a million bucks when I wear it. Love your videos!!!

Great review. It WAS very objective!
I guess a summary could be:
    Aquis for looks and comfort.
Longines for the better movement, legibility and value.

I would say, Oris Aquis can't compete with Longines Hydroconquest. I've had an Oris Divers Date on rubber strap for over ten years (2008-2018) and have experienced several issues. In the first years - still before the first revision and within the warranty period - the watch had to be sent to the official Oris service twice due to movement issues. And then after approx. seven years the main problem occurred - rusting hands. All three hands have been replaced five times on my Oris, with the same result. The new hands began to rust right a few months after the replacement. I really got fed up with Oris. Now, I've been wearing Longines Hydroconquest preceramic 39 mm version for over two years and I'm more than happy with this watch. It's great, more classical diver's watch than Oris. The finish on Longines is far better than on Oris (brushing, polishing, the quality of sunburst dial). The new ETA movement (L 888.2) produced exclusively for Longines (you won't find it in any other Swatch Group watches than Longines) is superior to Sellita stock movement used in Oris. All this makes me consider Oris much more as a marketing product now which might be nice at first glance but the long term quality isn't really there.

Longines is a brand that represents sobriety and a lot of class with a very extensive tradition in Horology, from my humble opinion I believe that Longines Hydroconquest is a better piece due to several factors. The detail of the dial is excellent, simply clean but very legible, the detail of those protectors Crown makes the watch represent a lot of strength, the ETA movement is something that is appreciated since it is an excellent battle machine, in short, for being a Diver it is very good in every way, it is not a Christmas tree they taste like what i mean.

Being from the caribbean the Oris is an excellent watch. I previously owned 1. which my late Mom had purchased for me in 1988 as a graduation gift. Now it wasn't the Aquis.. OK. i really didn't valued it at that time sad to say & over the yrs. it was misplaced. Having said that the Longines in that shade gery in my view has that sort of contemporary timeless look & it's cheaper...But i don't take away anything from the Oris Aquis both are excellent in my Book & one can't go wrong..........

I’ve got the blue one. You won’t regret it. I did not like the Oris. Bruce doesn’t really discuss the really odd lugs on the Oris. They are far more offensive than the crown guards on the Longines. I really don’t mind crown guards.

I agree, I wasn’t even considering Longines when I was looking for a dive watch, but when I went shopping for divers it felt like the best built diver under $2,000-$2,500 IMO... the only thing that could be improved is the clasps bit that’s not a deal breaker... when you this watch in hand you get a different feel about the Longines, I wasn’t a big fan of it whenever I looked at pictures.... I own a version of the Aquis, like it a lot, and have not had the chance to handle a HydroConquest. I thought the outdoor video that Bruce gave us of both watches really shows where the HydroConquest puts Oris to shame- the anti reflective looks first rate on the HC in the sunlight. Based on that alone, I would be leaning towards the HC, the outdoor pics were that good. This said, the Longines Legend diver is the one I’m lusting after, in the Longines line-up.

Oris just keeps looking better every time I look at it. The Longines looks good too but it does remind me of the submariner and omega quite a bit which is not necessarily a bad thing. The Oris just has something about it and especially in the little details. Oris just has this nearly perfect blend of contemporary, tool and elegance aesthetic that I don't get the feeling of with many other watches.

Great vid, Bruce. I like the design of the latest Oris models. But the movement (Selitta) was always a showstopper for me. Longines did a great job by evolving the design of the HC. They saved the origin design signals. The big numbers on 6, 9 and 12, the crown guards and the crown itself. And they reduced the design elements on the dial and the bezel. In this design way it's going to become a legendary watch in the future.

    • @mvhdsk1122
      @mvhdsk1122 Рік тому

I hope you do not want to say that Sellita is bad all the way. When I entered the world of watches and learned about movements, I always thought Sellita sounds like a coffee machine brand :D But after getting a Hydroconquest in blue with steel and rose gold that I still much adore, I went for a Formex Reef GMT that is equipped with a chrono-grade Sellita and runs exceptionally well - almost as good as the HC and in my case that means +/-2 sec each day. However, if I had a wish to make, I would love to see a silicone hairspring in there just as in the Hydro. That is a realy sweet upgrade Longines makes to their movements even in this tier and it makes this watch really stand out.

I owned many watches with outer AR coating- Breitling, Omega, IWC and i must admit it has more cons than pros. If you don't baby your watch and walk around as if you have a disability in your left arm or take it off whenever you feel it is going to get scuffed, it WILL get marks and scratches and over time look horrible. The crystal gets dirty extremely easy from just a slight touch of a finger and i always find myself taking out the microfiber and gently humidifing it to gently rub it off. When i wear my king turtle it never gets dirty and i just use whatever piece of cloth to wipe it down.

I have a hamilton khaki king that drives me so insane with no AR coating so that is an instant killer for me. However, I have to say that the Cherry red dial Oris is one of the most visually appealing watches I have ever seen!

I love the Aquis. And I wouldn't really criticize the AR treatment. It's like a Glossy screen - It makes it a bit harder to read in comparison (but still no problem there) but it makes it more "shiny". It's like the superocean heritage a more "bling bling" kinda watch. I have both and a Seastar 2000, but on the wrist and in comparison I can tell which is the more expensive watch.

I’d like to see Longines improve the bracelet and move the date window between 4 and 5 allowing for a numeral 3 on the dial for balance. Another option would be to delete the nine on the dial and replace it with a larger round index and add the numbers 10, 2, 8, and four to the dial of the 3:00 date window is retained and the dial would be visually balanced.
I like the Hydroconquest chronograph models with three dial complication.

I love the weight of the TT1 Chrono. But the classy look of the Longines HydroConquest chrono is my favorite . The watch I wear most when I know I will be very active is the Oris 1000 meter. I have both. A Titanium Oris Der Meistertaucher and a Hydroconquest. My longines does not have a ceramic bezel which is something that does a lot for the overall look and the Oris is the top gun in the Aquis family, so the comparison could be a little unfair. I think both are no brainers and fantastic watches for the money. My favorite is the Oris but I agree, they need better adjustments on their calibres but the finishing is beautiful their bracelets perfect on the wrist, specially love the rubber strap and that great clasp. The hydro is more dressy and versatile to wear with everything and a better spec movement. Bot amazing options.

Don’t know if this was apparent in person, but in the macro shots there seemed to be a few blemishes on the Longines. Now I’ve seen both in person, and would give the edge to the Hydroconquest in specs, but I’d go for the Aquis 39.5. For a more contemporary design, versatility. clasp structure.

Brilliant comparison. I am comparing both of these for my next watch, which will be the first dive watch in my collection. I want a blue dial and I’m leaning toward the 43.5mm Aquis Date but I keep coming back to the HydroConquest ceramic as well. (I don’t like the aesthetic of the non ceramic iterations, it looks too ‘busy’) The 44mm is a little big for my wrist so it would be a 41mm. The Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 42mm is also a worthy contender at good price point. Also has the option of the GMT movement for not much more. Too many nice watches to choose from 🤔
Edit: I’m now the happy owner of a HydroConquest Ceramic 43mm SS Blue. Prices went up significantly on the Oris and it didn’t seem like value for money anymore. They also disappeared from my local jeweller so finding one became more of a mission. Love everything about the Longines.

I have the Hydroconquest 41mm with the L888.2 movement, grey sunray dial. The strap does have halflinks so adjustability is not a problem at all. Maybe they updated it from the original release? Seriously speaking, no one can tell you which one is better, these are all very subjective. However, if it's a matter of choosing just one of these 2, I will pick the Longines Hydroconquest. Here are my reasons....1) The Longines Hydroconquest is more affordable; 2) the green Oris Aquis will be difficult to pair with your clothes. The gray Longines is more well-rounded in terms of pairing with what you are wearing. You can wear it with simple t-shirt and jeans, or in a nice suit. The green dial looks so loud, it will stick out if you are wearing something conservative. The Oris Aquis green looks like something Liberace would wear; 3) the Longines watch movement is more accurate with longer reserve time. What better "one and only" watch is there, than a watch which you can rely on to tell you the correct time for a longer period of time.; 4) the Longines look like a good substitute for the Rolex Submariner, or a placeholder. The green Oris Aquis look like the green Rado Captain Cook. So, which watch would you rather have, something that is reminiscent of a Rolex or of a Rado?

I agree. I couldn't in good conscience buy either of these watches as I know I'd flog them within a month or so. The Oris movement is just too rudimentary for the money and the Longines has a bracelet and clasp that's just not professional grade. I'd advise anyone thinking of these to get a Seiko or save the money for an Omega Seamaster, an even better Planet Ocean or a Tudor Pelagos. The only impulse buy I still have is a Tag Aquagraph and that's a hefty tank of a watch. Every other purchase was planned.
