Awesome guide David. The best I have seen on putting together a Kegerator and you are not even done yet! Many thanks for all your great guides.
Many thanks Alan, very much appreciated. I must admit that I checked out other guides first and sought to improve on them.
Congratulations on hitting 35,000 subscribers David. Growing nicely
Many thanks Craig :) Yes, it sure is!
Just set up my Series X and this video was very helpful. Thanks, for all the other well-made and informative videos too!
Great to hear Marcus. I hope you enjoy the X :)
Absolutely brilliant video David👍👍👍
Thank you :) Part 2 comes next week :)
David it's Paddy! I just found your channel mate (from your fb post) and wanted to say congrats on the amazing channel and content. I'm going to binge watch all of these now! :)
Hi Paddy :) Great, enjoy :)
Great video as usual! Hopefully I can afford to build mine soon, and will refer back to this vid when I do! 🍻
Awesome, thanks Noel. Part 2 comes next Sunday :) I get the feeling that I will make a part 3 to cover line balancing and so on in early 2021 :)
I do love your videos David and find loads of Learning in all of them. If I may come with a request for a video in the theme of kegerators; title: «How to get your partner’s blessing for a kegerator when living in an inner city flat» I’d learn that by heart😀.
Thank you :) Yes, I see the issue. I think some of the concepts in this video could assist:- ua-cam.com/video/x5jmFc3ujPI/v-deo.html
Great tips! Dropping your nuts really is a pain!! That is a nice kegerator! I wish they had that version when I bought mine. Looking fwd to part 2! Cheers! 👍🍻
Many thanks Brian, this sure took time to write, film and create! Yes, the series x is pretty awesome, I will make a review once I have used it more :)
David, Great videos for the Kegland Series X Kegerator build. I bought the Komos three tap from Morebeer, I should have gotten the four tap. With the three tap the tower build is a bit different, it is easier to assemble the tower prior to attaching it to the kegerator as the mounting screws are on the peripheral of the tower instead of the inside. Just don't forget to install the base trim ring first, or you end up doing it over. You can guess how I know.
Many thanks John. The Komos is simply a rebrand. Yes the 3 tap tower and below are much thinner but the screw points are easier :)
Hi David, I just stopped by for this same update. My Series X 3-tap model came with a small diameter tower. I found it wasn't possible to build in situ, although it was very easy once I removed the tower. Of course, I also forgot to install the base trim ring first, so I built my tower three times before getting it right. (The 4-tap tower has no trim ring.)
Big thanks for the great videos! You've given me the confidence to start home kegging. 🍺
@IDiveAtNight Great to hear. Yes, putting these together can be shockingly fast when you know the best techniques. 🍻🍻🍻
Hi, David :) great content as always, thank you! I have a video idea/request; I know you have previously discussed SS Brewtech vs Grainfather Chronical fermenters, but I would really like to see a comparison or pro/con of those versus the newer unitanks that are hitting the market. I know they are at different price points, but it would be nice to hear your take on what is worth the money and what is not.
Hi :) I have been considering doing this but the market is so vast and there is the new Brewtools unitank arriving soon also. I made a video not long ago comparing plastic versions, which can be seen here:- ua-cam.com/video/CQvalGj3vlA/v-deo.html
Personally I am using GF conical for regular ferments and Kegmenter for pressure but that could change, lets see :)
Any tips on where to drill holes in a fridge and block them up when not in use?
Sorry but this is the part I am not covering in this guides, there are plenty of them on UA-cam already :) Usually it is one hole in the top though that you will mount a tap tower to. Pretty easy stuff really. Then it is a case of adding the tap tower as shown in these guides and that is it essentially.
Hi David - is it possible to purchase the small tap handles you are using in the US? I think they look really nice on the Nukatap. Thank you for another great video. Cheers 🍻
Hi Ben, I would think you could get them from either More Beer or Williams if they are not listing them already. Glad you enjoyed this one, part 2 is coming on Sunday and concludes the set up.
Hey David! From your experience, how long can your brews keep in kegs? There seems to be alot of misinformation on the internets about this... some say months, some say weeks. My buddy who works for a big domestic brewery here in canada says its a matter of a couple weeks for their brand?
This really depends on how it has been handled and the recipe. My kegs generally last up to 2 months due to being drunk and I’ve never had to throw any out. As long as you do not oxidise the beer then it should last some months for you, even if it contains volatile ingredients like wheat.
Hey David, I have a series X unit with 4 taps, the tower is wigglying like crazy, the top of the fridge does not seems to be rigid. Did I get a lemon or yours is like that ? Thanks
Mine is very sturdy. I would take it off and try again. If it's the same then I would get it replaced.
Did you use the EVA barrier with this? I cannot find 4mm in NL and it only came with 7m. Seems WAY to little for 4 beer lines
Yes I did. 4mm inner diameter , 8 mm outer. It comes in 10m lengths.
Hey David, i have just bought one it is making awful a lot of noise when it is cooling? Is it too loud for you as well? How loud it is comparing to the regular fridge?
Sorry to hear that. It should not be louder than a regular fridge.
Great video as usual. Please, David where I can find a X serie kegerator here in europe ? For me is really hard to find one. Thanks !
Thank you. Hard to say, I only know about Scandinavia. I see stock in Norway, Sweden and Denmark :)
letmegooglethat.com/?q=X+serie+kegerator
Brouwland.com has them and they ship worldwide (from Belgium I believe)
Thank you for this guide. I have had my series 4 for almost a year now. I am tempted to get the eva barrier stuff now that it is available in Canada for purchase.
One thing that I was really wondering: the duotight part you have going on the shank - is that a special part meant for that or is it just a regular duotight fitting. What size of shank is it?
Lucky you :) We had to wait a long time for the X :) Its a regular Duotight fitting, it depends on your line as to which one you need. Best to talk to where you buy the EVA barrier from to get the right size :)
@@DavidHeathHomebrew I think you misread me: I have a series 4 that has been out for a while.
Ops yes! I also have a series 4 , 3 tap :)
@@DavidHeathHomebrew two tap here - although it would be interesting to add a third. Any chance you could measure the diameter of the tower?
Sure, the 3 tap are 75mm in diameter. The 4 tap is 115mm :)
How long did you cut your liquid lines? I just started this build.
I went 4m with 4mm ID line. I am still testing this but better to have more than you need than less. My other kegerator is a 3 tap and I ended up at 3m lines with 4mm ID.
I insulated the inside ot the font and the lid with formshield.
I used 10mm which snugly fits above the screw rim at the bottom. I also think 5mm would work fine.
Yes, this is great to do if the kegerator is in a warm area.
@@DavidHeathHomebrew After setting it up just now, I would probably go with the 5mm formsheild, you would have alightly more room and the nuts on the back of the shank would be easier to tighten.
Thanks for the info :)
Hi David, would be great if you could discuss draft system balancing. What length of 4mm beer line do you recommend for various keg pressures?
Agree on this one, hoping it will be in part 2! I've been using smaller diameter line so far but might try and change it to EVAbarrier
This is covered in part two :)
Yes :)
I went with 5 meters but 4 meter lines is probably where I will end up with 4mm :)
@@DavidHeathHomebrew Interesting, my series X kegerator from kegland came with precut 4mm ID line that is 1.6m. When I contacted them they said this was suitable for 11-12 PSI (80kPa). What keg pressure are you using? Happy to wait for part 2 if this is all covered in that video.
Thanks for your video yesterday can you please tell me how many days do you ferment your stouts for and do you bother doing secondary ferment also do you really need to filter them for me I don't bother I just ferment them for about 7 to 10 days so maybe I'm doing it all wrong I'd love to know your thoughts thanks
Ps I use a thing called a ferminator I bought it from a guy in Northern Ireland its made of poly stirring its a kind of a mini fridge it keeps my fermenter stable on temperature 17.5 C
My og is around 1048 and fg is down to around 1012 its an oatmeal stout I've been algrain brewing now for around 14 years but it's not very consistent I'd very much like to know what you think cheers David
Hi Jack, it depends really but usually 7-10 days with regular yeast if they are not strong versions. I also tried the ferminator but was not impressed. The other issue is the amount of electricity it uses.
@David Heath Homebrew thanks David I don't think it uses much electricity a 70 watt bulb amount I'm told cheers and thanks
Also once I get my new kegerater it might sort things out temperature wise I know it's important to control it
Its a Peltier device. Like running 7-10 fridges sadly. Thermoelectric devices are super inefficient and can be as inefficient as low as 5% return. www.allthescience.org/what-is-the-peltier-effect.htm
Yes for sure.
@David - is it possible to install such a kegerator underneath a worktop, with my own tap setup on top of the worktop, as say in a home bar situation?
I would think so. Check the measurements to make sure it works.
@@DavidHeathHomebrew I was thinking more about the connectivity between the kegerator and the tap (as this is directly fitted to the kegerator, whereas in a "home pub" situation you would want the tap / tower mounted onto the bartop itself). So some sort of "DIY-ing" is assumed to ensure the hole at the top of the kegerator needs to be sealed except for allowing the beer lines out...?
Yes, this can be done but is certainly going to require some DIY skills and solutions.
I have the Mangrove Jack kegerator with 3 tap setup and looking into replacing the default taps with Nukataps and using quick disconnect fitting for easier maintenance. Which fittings are those that you put on the shanks? And to be sure: those are barbed and not screwthread shanks, right? (btw I’m ordering at that one familiar Swedish homebrew shop since these 5”things are far too hard to find over here in The Netherlands). Thanls!
Hi Jelmer, These are all Nukatap faucets and shanks. They are not barbed.
@@DavidHeathHomebrew Ok. Thank you for your reply. Which size duo tight / quick disconnects do fit on these nukatap
shanks?
No problem. The shank end is 6,5mm. I used 6,5mm to 8mm duotight connectors.
@@DavidHeathHomebrew thanks for checking. Just requested a quote for my order to almost completely upgrade my existing keggerator "internals" to new lines with duotights and adding a manifold. And of course the nukataps :-) Thanks again!
Great, no problem :) Enjoy :)
I got this and assembled it the same day you released this video. I only got 6m of beer line so not sure how you cut it into 3m lengths, also no tube cutter with mine. Screwing in the tap tower was a huge pain.
I guess different suppliers do it differently. I would suggest getting more line length. The cutters are not expensive and make the job more precise and easier.
I'm also waiting for tomorrow so I can follow your next video!
It will come at the usual time :)
I'm considering buying a 3 tap David ,do you think its enough for one person and with 4 kegs in it can I set a separate carbonation line at 30psi
You can use 2 different regulators with the series X, one on each side. This would be the best way to set up with this plan. Personally I would go 4 tap because if you do not then you could well regret it. Even if most of the time you end up using just 3.
OK so say I got 4 tapper would the standard chrome taps be OK or are the flow controls a must , as these change the price beyond my wife's purse strings lol
Ive gone with regular personally :)
How long should be the beer lines when using the evabarrier lines?
I am using 4mm ID 8mm OD of 4 meters.
@@DavidHeathHomebrew I think kegland is suggesting 1.5m of 4mm line. Is there an advantage to go 4m ? Thanks
I prefer a longer line personally. It covers more of a variety of carbonation levels.
Cannot find the rail guard in the uk. Anyone know where I can get one?
I would suggest looking online at various international sites, including Ali express and Ebay if you need to.
@@DavidHeathHomebrew thank you. I’ve tried but just can’t seem to find them. Great video, will follow the series. Though my daughter has started to sing your intro music 😀
Fingers crossed things like this will come back into stocks again soon. Demand this year has been crazy. Sounds like your daughter has great musical taste :)
