Aoife just always nails it. And note (all you singers out there) how, during the solos, she steps out of the way, out of the light, and turns to face the musicians. That tells the audience, "Hey, this is where the action is - give these guys the same attention and respect you gave me." The woman is a consummate musician and performer.
Beautiful version. Lots of feeling. Minor pedantic correction: Billie holiday did not write this song, The words were by Jack Lawrence, the music by Peter Tinturin. Published 1937.
There is just something about her that knocks my socks off.... she's nice too. If she were my neighbor Id be baking her cookies daily just so I could come over and sit for a spell -
I disagree. If Billie was still alive she would be 105, but she would love this. She loved singing, and singers, and would admire the passion Aoife puts into the song. All music is only as good as the performer. I love Billie Holiday. She is one of the greatest singers of any genre of music, but that doesn't mean that she is THE GREATEST! That is something that doesn't exist. Technique always improves. There is always room for other interpretations. There is never ONE correct way to play or sing a piece. If there was, music would die. Aoife is a really great singer, and like Billie she can sing anything at the highest level. I love them both.
Joe Holroyd he could have been less negative in his preference expression. Then again, we've seen far worse in comments. As I said before, if he urges people who didn't know about Billie to go find her work to compare it too, they can decide for themselves. I agree, though that it a debate without a winner. Even with a vote, those in the minority are entitled to their views.
Outstanding! Aoife...you should consider doing an album of jazz standards at some point!
Bravo!! Congratulations!!

That was a sick drum solo Mr. Smith! I was at that show with my son and was so excited you played that night with the Live From Heros house band.
Aoife can do anything!
I’m always blown away by how great her voice and singing are. 👌 I can listen to her nonstop! 🙌
This little lady can SELL a song and has the chops to do it. A rare combination of talent and skill. Pretty, too!
As always Aoife is absolutely superb. We are so lucky!!!
It make me feel 😩

Cooooool
If you get chills in the first 4-bar, it's an 'ooh', right?
Nice treatment of a great song. No substitute for Billie though.
Check out Madeleine Peyroux.
As with any good tribute, not just another cover, this should keep people talking and learning about her.

No one is saying that she is a substitute (or not) for Billie (except you) no need mate, it's such a non-point.

The tag "youre listening to Live from Here" is SO IMMENSELY LAME -Chris, , just ruined the song
