Another fun in depth review, will be looking to pick this up once it goes down to the 25 to 40$ range. Thank you for the review :) and the in depth style in which you do it.
The franchise did not start on the PS2, it started on the Sega Saturn with Sakura Taisen (1996). The PS2 received a remake of the first game: In Hot Blood (2003); and the fifth entry in the franchise: So Long, My Love (2005). Before Sakura Wars (2019), only So Long, My Love had been released in the West, on the PS2 and Wii in 2010.
And So Long My Love was published by NISA, not Sega, because they were not intersted to translate this game. NISA wanted also translate Sakura Wars 1+2 on PSP, but when they asked Sony with help with localization, they rejected project ,,because this is text game (Visual Novel)''. There is also official russian (but not english WTF) translation of Sakura Wars 1 + 2 on PC.
My pre order just came in today. I can't wait to play it. I still have So Long My Love on Wii and PS2. Thanks for the review.

Hey SEGA here’s an idea why don’t you remake the first 4 games so we can enjoy them or at least port them like you did with yakuza and I HOPE in the sequel we save them not spoiling and get rid of battle boy that was a grind also bring back the tactic style gameplay

So how many % of the actual mecha combat gameplay in this game?
I really thought it's as equal portion as games like Trails series & Persona or even the older Sakura Wars games that more like Tactical TBS RPG.
They really shouldn’t have released this in the same month as Persona 5 and FF7
Zev Zero didn’t something similar happen to Daemon X Machina where it launched in between astral chain and DQ11
The change to the simplest musou combat completely killed this one for me. I would accept it if they added more RPG elements and customisations into the series (or really just any), but not like this.
I want the get the game, but I won't be getting it until its released for PC or Switch.

does being a massive jerk change much gameplay wise? from what i have heard being a jerk in this game leads to the most funny moments
At worst, it will affect the stats of the heroines as their bonds to the player is what make them stronger.
Being jerk in this game is the best.. don't worry Sakura will always love u..
How long was your first playthrough
Took my reviewer about 40ish hours, so you can expect your first run to be between 30-40 hours.
Gammalad why are other people saying 15 hours ? Is it really 40 hours?

Speaking of game engines, the graphics feels like a Sonic game wouldn't you think? What game engine this game used?
Hedgehog Engine 2 and this game was made by Team Sonic ;)
I'm surprised they went for a more action oriented game instead of the tactical game the series is known for?
They had to appeal to a younger audience and tbh I like the new combat more than the old combat. It's a step up imo and will make it more likely that a newer audience will enjoy the series thus improving sales increasing odds for a sequel
The original turn-based combat was kinda weird so they probably got scared of a possible negative reception from the modern audience

This is my first time playing a game like this and there's almost no "game" to begging with. I though I was gonna fight on Mech Suits and blah, blah but no, it is a pretty expensive dating sim? I don't even know. It's not bad but it's not good and definitely not worth 60 dollars
So hack n slash robots and boobs? Where do I sign up?
