I did not expect this to be on the game, which is fair as I didnt know it existed lol
Yeah, I came into the video wondering how the hell they were doing a 3 minute review on a show with several hundred episodes.
How could anyone look at this game and think “This is worth $60!”?
The Japanese will just eat it up
@@LK_tutturu a sad, but true story. :/
Welcome to Koei Tecmo's games
Just don’t look at the DLC prices. You might have a heart attack
SuperNerd Joel lol it has DLC?
Was anyone expecting more from this game?
I'm a huge fan of the anime but I had a feeling this game would be subpar.
yes, so much more than was delivered. Its also disappointing that it only focuses on 1 arc rather than more of the story.
@@nodjr1595 Pretty sure it has more than just the Magic Games arc. I think it also follows events of the Tartaros and Avatar arcs
Not really, anime games are usually mid (with a few exceptions). So I wasn't expecting triple-A quality to begin with
No , but I always expect a fun game from Gust
A Fairy Tail game should just be a DOAXtreme dlc pack.
True
I find that this game starts at a VERY odd spot. Starting you at the end of an arc is just...weird. I half expected that the tutorial would be the fight against Hades and then it would go back to the start of the Tenrou Island arc and go from there, this is DEFINITELY just for the fans. And even then it's not for EVERY fan due to how much it skips(It skips the Edolas arc which i ADORED). Everything else though? It's your generic RPG
@Jaime De la Rosa Yes, Edolas is the arc just before Tenrou. and oh boy it skips A LOT more than that. By having the game start at the end of Tenrou Island arc is skips Tenrou Island,Edolas, Oracion Seis,The Battle of Fairy Tail,Tower Of Heaven,Loke,Phantom Lord,Galuna Island,Lullaby,Daybreak and Macao arcs. And yes you can argue that some of these are minor arcs but Phantom Lord, Tower Of Heaven, Oracion Seis, Edolas and Tenrou Island are pretty major arcs. After GMG it skips Sun Village and Eclipse Celestial Spirits(anime only arc). Oh and Key Of The Starry sky which is before GMG and is also anime only
@@Ashurman666 because they already covered those arc in other Fairy Tail games, but it's Japan exclusive and only available in Japanese, so it's great that they got global release this time.
And as I remembered the last Fairy Tail game's story stopped at Tenroujima arc.
@@infinityend5075 I mean that makes sense but for a game just called "Fairy Tail" and it being the first world wide release you'd think they'd at least include a cliff notes version of previous arcs or something
Well, of course it's just for the fans. Why would you want to play a game based on an anime, if you're not a fan of said anime?
@@JStryker47 Ummm...s an introduction to the anime to possibly bring in NEW fans to the anime? Look at the Naruto games for example
This should have been made like the Naruto games as a 1v1 fighter with changing arenas for special/boss fights rather than as a turn based rpg, you get so much story and an amazing large roster of playable characters for free battles, especially the villains or fan favourites from early on in the series.
A lot of potential in the series, especially with some of the more minor or rival guild characters who would have been fun to play as.
Nah fam how would the spells work
@@sergeanthuman It could work in multiple ways. Such as how poison, binding, healing, buffing, etc works in most games
@@delanireid maybe, but I'm still thinking the combat should be in favor of the attacks from the wizards, and not just random punches in a combo. And since most characters stick with their own magic, are u suggesting each character gets their own status effect?
@@sergeanthuman yes but status effects can work the same. Sting has a binding move and so does fairy sphere. Stings can use less energy but is only used on the target while Mavis/Lucy can be use FS on multiple people inside it but it uses a lot more energy. It can also be used on ally’s for protection etc etc
There’s a lot of close combat in the series so having punches combined with magic can work like how storm characters end a combo with a jutsu. If Makomo and Rin can have a full move set then anyone can.
They also don’t HAVE to do that, this can be a game where they use ranged moves because they’re more long distance. Something like Naruto/Boruto shinobi striker or Xenoverse would probably be a good example of playstyle. Give characters like Erza an option to switch out to armor for fire protection during battle or give an equipment option where she can have different weapons and armor to use in the main menu
@@delanireid im thinking they keep the combat but remove the turn system and they can format the arena like ninja storm. Heck even some of the follow ups in the animations we got can be controlled in case you land the first hit. Im imaginating natsu flame lotus exploding lighting flame being casted with one button press, then u can follow up with the big vortex or try a different option. Also get rid of mana consumption, u could make these moves imputs or button combinations. What do u think?
A shame that it focuses on the Grand Magic Games arc and not every arc before or after like most JRPGs, or a completely new storyline exclusive to that game.
I mean there are A LOT of arcs before GMG so i don't think the game could possibly focus on ALL of them
And some arcs are just to boring.
No one wants a game based onthe Edolas Arc
@@SilverShion Excuse me? I'l have you know i personally adored the Edolas arc
It goes till the end of Tartarus arc
@@Edagui97 So it DOESN'T include the Avatar Arc?
I went into the game with zero knowledge of source material - it starts without setup having us fight some ultimate master guy, and acts as though it holds much meaning to the player ^^’ I took from that it was designed pretty exclusively for superfans only, and gameplay reinforced that; it was so weird how many characters were just text & a face image, no voice - main characters, seemingly critical people. Also a fair few guild members I thought I would eventually unlock, but found out after completing that they’re planned DLC at £16 a pop - given their complete models, voices, action stances in cutscenes etc, it seems as though they’re pretty much ready to go, held back purposefully for cash. As an RPG it’s low-tier, serviceable but extremely repetitive, and the platinum requires you completing everything, including 50+ near-identical monster quests, to beat x amount of a certain monster in a specific place; what it doesn’t tell you is it only counts the ones in the “!” marked monsters on the map, so you can’t use any of the unlocked tools to beat them, just need to go back and forth over the same 8 or so areas over and again, beating the 7 or so reskinned enemies who at the end of the game die before they can move ^^’ I love RPGs - the more classic the better usually - but this was the first in a long time that felt like a real battle to keep up. This is the most on-the-nose review of it to date!
Yeah i also found it REALLY strange that the game starts at the end of a story arc. I half expected that after beating Hades the game would go back, explain a bit about the characters and let us play through the Tenrou Island arc and then go forward into GMG but no, the game REQUIRES you to have extensive knowledge of the source material. And yes i also agree that the requests are dull, repetitie and uninspired. If they were optional i wouldn't have issues with them. But they're not, certain parts of the story REQUIRE you to do them to raise Guild rank
Nice to see a shonen anime game try something other than a fighter
The overworld aspect of the game reminds me of Dragon Quest 11
Is this just _Atelier_ with a different coat of paint? (and the fun crafting mechanics removed)
Minus other factors too, and a lot less in-game side content to discover - there’s about 30 collectible items to do one side thing, about 50 people requesting misc items, a few requests with voices of fetch quests, and a lot of grinding monsters quests. There’s 3 conversations each between character pairings too, but some have 2 or 4 (or none) so it totals about 173, some they grunt once rather than talk
Oh, and there’s various rocks and trees in pathways where you need to do over an amount of damage in a combo to break them & either open an area or get an item - about 40 of them, the majority reveal a chest with a generic item in them.
@@Lemmingofdoom Don't forget the Atelier NPCs
The flatness of their faces compared to everything else is really jarring.
They put most of the polygon count into the girls' tits.
I'm having a good time with Fairy Tail so far.
The combat is like if Gust developed their own spin of Radiant Historia, slightly less polished but way more flashy.
I like that there are many party members to choose from and I love the soundtrack. My best girl Erza kicks so much ass.
But there are some minor issues, like the way the game cut some corners with the story mode. Some characters are voice only and some others are not even that, like Milliana who is text only (which is really weird in some cutscenes).
That one cutscene where she meets Erza in Crocus is just...awkward as all hell. Or that one bit where Natsu is talking to the Sabertooth guildmaster
Personally as a fairy tail fan I'm simply excited to see a game in the first place. I am fully aware that this game is pretty unimpressive but I hope this sells well so they can make more (and much better games)
It is a bit watered down, compared to the show, but I still find it a lot of fun.
It has 30 hours of content tho, plus a bunch of free skins
Honestly my problem was the removal of certain events (particularly grand magic games) ; I mean I didn't hate Minerva yet it continued like the anime whet they hate sabertooth for no reason. It might not be too important but Lucy vs Minerva really set up that hatred and her eventual redemption.
I had to look for game play before deciding to buy or not. Once I saw it was turn based combat, I was like nope. It hard for me to enjoy turn based combat.
I just hope they don't do a half-assed job when someone inevitably make a Seven Deadly Sins game. Don't do my boy Meliodas dirty like that PLEASE
There's a mobile game of it, if you want to see!
That already exists. It came out like two years ago.
Yeah, there's a game for it that's a 3D fighter a la Soul Caliber... Calibur... eh. Anyways, the game plays basically like Super Smash Brothers in 3D. It's fun at first, but it's super simple and easy to master. Mind you, I think Blazeblue isn't that complicated apart from a few characters.
bruh I thought it was the review of the anime, I got bamboozled
2:20- 3:30 perfectly described the entire Neptunia franchise i love the series but its been 10 and there still reusing assets for dungeons and monsters
as a fairy tale fan and rpg fan I will try this but not for full price this didn't look or sound like a full price game I will happily wait for the price to go down I have plenty of other games to play till then
Please stop saying Tale instead of Tail
imo, anime games are the only games that should be episodic. If the devs put the time in to recreate each arc seperately, they would have much better games than the thinly spread ones they charge about £60 currently... Side stories could be cheaper dlc and any movies the franchise has could be priced somewhere in between or just the same as main arcs.
Everyone talking about this video
Me: who is this and where is my Yahtzee
I wish I knew how they got those anime textures XD
that sucks for it all as ew i was hopeing to get it later after keyboard support added... now i dont even want as just seems like "well... here it is... i guess.. *shrug* dont really care what you think of it"
I do find the game a lot of fun, though compared to the show, it's a bit watered down. Also, I initially bought the Steam version, but the game only got as far as the title screen and then would crash every time I selected "new game", no matter what solutions I tried. So I finally refunded it and bought the PS4 version.
Definitly wait for a price drop, this game is not worth $60 i got it on steam and it wouldnt boot properly, had a severe case of tutorialitis, reused npc assets whenever and wherever possible shamelessly, atleast games like trails of cold steel recolor their copy and paste npcs for an illusion of diversity.
Speaking of not booting properly, and this still happens to me, if you have any windows explorer window open the game will simply not boot at all for some reason
This game is just as expensive now as it was when it was first released
Natsuw & Urza >_>
Had a damn good time with the show and was hesitant about the game. Thanks for the info!
Why is it so hard for anime-derived games to tell the story in a way that newcomers can actually understand? I mean, when you go to see a movie based on a book, it's never assumed that the audience has read the book. Yet it seems like, if it's a game based on an anime/manga, they barely even bother trying to make it accessible to people who aren't already fans of the property. It's just such a bizarre choice, when you'd think a game would be a great way to bring in new fans to a franchise.
Naruto Storm did it but it took them 4 games and two console generations to do that. Most Anime games are too reluctant to take such a long term route and not to mention, the primary audience of these games don't care about it.
Why wasnt this a mobile game
Can't charge $60 each for mobile games.
Lots of controls
if its as lack luster as One Punchman game was I wouldn't pay half the price ....
I was expecting this to be a musou game to be honest, or even something like monster hunter.
This was the exact kind of source material that BEGS to have a Storm like game made for it. Turn based simply does not pair with this anime in any way shape or form, end of discussion. Can't believe someone thought this was a good idea
Yeah gust don't make action games
@@tchitchouan and? They didn't have the make the game, some other developer that had a vision which matches the source material could have taken it up.
I still would’ve liked this to have been a 3D fighter like the Storm series
“15 fan favorite characters. Like, Natsu, Ezra, Lucy”... Lucy ? Fan favorite ? Nah, we cool.
Dude called her Urza....*shudders*
"After a 7 year time skip"
-Characters look exactly the same
It's a thing from the series, so that's actually canon to the story.
Yeah, because they were frozen in time.
at best this is a 20 dollar game, 60 bucks is a RIP OFF
Unsuprisingly, the game is just as disappointing and almost insulting as the show
Could say the same for every anime game in existence
Was really hoping I was going to be proven wrong about this game being mediocre from the moment it was announced...but looking at it now it's a worse version of DBZ Kakarot. Both have aged visuals and battle mechanics, but at least DBZ cared enough to give you the plot from the beginning (mostly) and had fan service charm that carried it for the most part.
Fairy tail the show was great but owned by an obscenely greedy and viscous production company. Seeing this game this bad I whole heartedly believe the fault is on funimation for cutting corners and short changing the creators of this game. This goes in the bin with the legend of korra game as terrible wastes of money just for the sake of ip.
Maybe if it was 20 it could get away with being mindless fan serving time waster BUT 60!!!
Fan service is censored in the game too btw, so its just generic shonen rpg
Lol, you were talking about the game but all I could pay attention to was how ridiculously overboobied all the women are 😝
lisanna and marijane boobs are bigger in the game than in the actual anime (no complaints though)
Why does every anime girl look like it was drawn/modeled with 1 hand by a very lonely artist?
Yeah. Talk about "from an older time."
To make morons wonder why
Lol they deleted my comment about the censoring of a ecchi manga game. Thanks for the bootlicking
Shame there are so many issues with this I honestly expect more from a Gust created game.
So ur not going to talk about the Easter eggs, the story references, the many bosses that u fight, the perfect pacing, and the forms u can use for each character? ur leaving a negative vibe here
You know you degrade whatever semblance of respect I'd have to pay attention to your obviously oblivious comment by using "ur" and "u" for the proper and just as easy to type on any device "you're" and "you". TL;DR for you. You speak dumb about dumb game. Don't at me, moron. Seriously, you are a moron.
The negative vibe you feel is you realising you except trash and are not smart enough to realize it.
Don't be hurt. Swallow your shallow pride. Nothing wrong with being stupid, but don't ever wonder how something you thing is good is actually shitty. Understand you've just accepted shit. You have the power to grow and be educated. It's your right. Don't consume trash.
Do you misspell things on purpose? Do you just like spitting on the work laid before you? You really are despicable.
@@TechnicolorMammoth sorry for being faster with my texts by using a cheaper wae to say u, I bet ur jealous cause U were late for school cause I took ur time to write out "you" instead of being efficent
Also ur repeating insults towards the game and me don't actually prove the game is trash or that I am foolish for liking this game
No panty shots, no buy. Coomer game without coomer content belongs in the trash. There are better rpgs in the market for a more serious content, fairy tail is half ecchi already, so I don't get why the platforms would have this kneejerk reaction
So you don't get to look at the girls' underwear. Boo hoo hoo! Who cares about that, when Erza's outfits allow you to see her bare midriff, her bare arms, her bare feet, and the tops of her boobs? Not to mention, Mira's victory animation that shows a partial shot of her boobs as well. Then there's the swimsuit outfits.
So the same amount of work that was put into the game was the same in the final season.
aggressively boring. This review is great
So blatant lazy cash grab. If fan just buy on sale. If super fan (and fool) buy full price while they re release the complete edition with all dlc you just wasted money on. As a JRPG more of the same and more of JRPG's blatant habit of adding grind to inflate gameplay hours as if grind is something that actually keeps retention. If so Japan is weird and has bad taste as a culture (I seen your popular votes for smash ballot jp. I know your terrible taste).
