That's the point. If you help the community, then the community would help you in return. It's really toxic that ego ruins most adaptions. That's why most novel/game/remake movies are terrible. They can't even copy a thing well. If they had great source materials, they always ruin it because it's not "original".

Truth be told there's not a lot of Focus to make media on the Militaristic aspect of SCP, let alone making accurate.

I think what made this blow up more than your other projects was the story, and how you directed the whole thing. The beginning immediately caught my attention and had a ton of suspense, and it wasn't just pure action but had excellent interactions between characters. Great commentary, I'll be waiting for your next thing.

  • @sofics619
    @sofics619 5 років тому +44

This. Is. Amazing. I didn't even realise it was made in GTA V because it was that well made. If you ever feel like putting yourself through it again, know that the work you did on this was without a doubt completely worth it.
The way the characters acted made you feel disappointed and/or sad when one of them doesn't make it out. They are easily likeable and make you want to root for them until the end.
The fact that you only showed the monster at the end created a lot of suspense as you don't really know what it could be.
Personally I would've liked it if the last scene was them leaving the site but I don't know much about anything so I'm not sure on it.
To sum it up in 6 words:
Good shit man, keep it up.

You know there are even a ton more SCP stories out there you could do like
"The failed exploration of the underground caves of SCP-610."
"The incident where SCP-096 breaches containment and run rampant on a entire town with the oversight of Dr. Dan."
    "What happened to site 13?"
"The police raid on The Children of the Scarlet King which lead to dicovering SCP-231."
Or even do Narration videos like what the UA-camr "K0noa" is doing, who made some awesome stories with Men of War, Arma 3, and Hoi4.

19:20 The death of Quinn was pretty apparent to me. The body bag really hit it home that he was straight up dead. The scene where Graham is talking to him before he dies was actually where I figured he died, as I thought that was a little obvious, but having them around the body bag really made it way more emotional. I think that entire part was amazingly well done.

First Contact was in my mind a love letter to the early mornings in high school when I would be transfixed by your Shards series you did with Halo 4 , and besides RvB, Shards was the only GOOD series the game pumped out. With that series you lured me right away with the checker-past mercenaries and was heartbroken when I watched your video that the series being scrapped due to technical issues, which despite my sadness of the loss of a great I completely understand you scrapping. This video harkens back to the glory days of Machinima, and I wish I could shake your hand in thanks for you putting your time and detail into.
I don't know what your plans are, but I think we your viewers who enjoyed as much as we did, for I know I did immensely from the checker-past characters (a fond memory) to the rising suspense, I hope you make more episodes in time. Your work is quality content and knows how to work out emotion in the viewer.

When using NVGs we don’t actually aim down our sights/scopes, we use IR (only visible through NVGs) lasers (PEQ 15’s) on the end of the rifle to show where we are shooting. At least that’s how my unit does it, I’m sure everyone has a different SOP on how to fight in low light environments

I said it in your other video and I'll say it again here, you did a fan-fucking-tastic job on this. I'm legitimately surprised First Contact hasn't gotten millions of views up by now, but even if it doesn't I truly believe you will blow up on this site at some point. You have a very bright future in youtube, animation, film, and really whatever else you put that amount of work into.
Even if you feel like this hasn't gotten the attention it deserved (which it hasn't), I sure as hell appreciate the amount of work you put into this, and I'm not the only one. I think if you keep trying you'll get very far, and I am definitely looking forward to they day you do.

I come back to your SCP videos consistently ever since I found them. Easily some of my favorite content on UA-cam.
Great pacing, really believable acting/dialogue, great storytelling, great hooks, I could go on. Not a lot of people are making SCP content that represents the setting well outside of the UA-camrs explaining the lore.
Don’t know what you’ve been up to since SCP: Overlord but I’ll continue to rewatch your films regardless. Keep it up!

Amazing attention to detail, I really appreciate the amount of effort put in to make it feel authentic. I really agree with you on the uniforms part too, a lot of people kind of miss on that but it makes perfect sense. If someone were to capture you or videotape you and you got an SCP Logo patch on your uniform with "SCP" or "MTF" on the back of your vest, it defeats the purpose of operating in a clandestine fashion. You never see some organization like the CIA doing that. Its just dumb. It's different when you're on site and no one but members of the facility can identify you.

It came out good. I thought I was late to discover the scp universe cuz all the videos I've seen are several years old. Very cool to see this movie of yours was only few weeks old. Other than the walking underwater I thought you made a solid video

My guy I love the stuff you’ve made, and I think that more SCP type stuff would help your channel a lot. The SCP Fanbase is huge and is out from mainstream so it stays even better(along with me being a huge SCP nerd).

I liked it very well, i was late by like a month, but it was a good video. Watched it like 8 times, real asf. I wish I had those outfits you all had during it, very planned out, took a long time, but it was worth it. One million views

    Hey Evan,
Kudos for continuing what is really an obvious act of dedication and the love of film making, and it's incredibly creative of you to use the backgrounds of games like GTA5 to execute your visions.
I am not sure if you'll read this, but it definitely sounds like your biggest problem (like any artistic UA-camr's) is exposure in an incredibly saturated market. While you have your own little technical blips to work out in your process, the ultimate issue is to get people to *see* it. I worked in the "influencer" business (with focus on UA-cam) for 3 years and now work in SEO, and there are a few things you can do to help UA-cam's search algorithm to better find your own videos, and then a few things you can do on your own channel to help with content to give you more "exposure" to UA-cam's algorithms:
    1. Update your 'About' profile. The about profile is drawn upon in the overall algorithm, especially when they display a UA-camr profile rather than video in the search results. You want to explain to your viewers in a bit more layman terms what you do; I thought "machinima" referred to the company, not the actual video creation process. There is no mention that you create short films (which, for anyone who does not know the term machinima, would really help). Mentioning which games you use for machinima also help. If you don't ONLY do machinima short films, tell us about the other mediums! All of that helps your overall UA-cam SEO.
    2. Tags. Go to an incognito/private browser, go to UA-cam, and start typing in search terms that you think you would like your video to appear for. See if other videos in your search term look very similar to your own production. If they do, that is a good tag to use! Try to be as broad as possible *while still being relevant to your video*.
    3. Video title: At least one key tag should be in the name of your video title. One reason this video performed so well, I think, is that you used 'SCP', which has a small, but very dedicated fan base. Similar keywords could help push your video further.
    4. Your video descriptions should also be detailed (without being spammy) on exactly what the video entails. For a lot of these animations and short videos, I see a brief summary of the content, then the technology used in the video, then creation/voice/etc credits. Consider adding all that in.
You may want to go back to your older work that you think should be performing better, but is not, and optimize the video titles, tags, and descriptions to match what the content is, and what you think people would search for to try and see something that you are making.
It's also incredibly difficult to keep content continuously coming for a channel like this, which is what UA-cam also wants to see. While you are creating new projects, to keep yourself "on the map", so to speak, here are some ideas for 'filler' content in between the great videos, just so you can attempt to have at least two videos a month:
    1. Trailers (as you have in the past)
    2. Bloopers (both in voice acting, the tech messing up, and just general human error like running into walls).
    3. Little snapshots and 'previews' of in-progress work.
    4. More videos about the technology; you clearly know what you are talking about, and these may be much easier to produce.
Derral Eves is a UA-camr that focuses on UA-cam optimization; I would browse through his content for a couple hours to get a better idea of how to get UA-cam's algorithm to pick up your stuff.
You clearly have talent and a good work ethic. At this point of time, it's just learning how to work with UA-cam's system to get your work out there. There is a bit of a learning curve, but definitely nothing you cannot handle with the technology you already deal with. A big reason I wrote this mini-essay is due to your obvious talent. I hope that this can be of assistance.
Good luck! Email me at ainu . laire at gmail . com if you have any questions.

This was awesome. I'd love to give some feedback but unfortunately I don't know anything about working with this stuff and what your limitations are. But the way Military Forces typically handle aiming down sights with NODs on is using a laser like the AN/PEQ-2. It's actually near impossible to use sights with NODs because you don't have any depth of field, so it's all very blurry and aiming becomes difficult and much slower, especially if you have those big GPNVG-18s on your head like you said. So seeing lasers would be pretty neat if it's possible with what you work with.
