Absolutely amazing every single time I listen to this I can definitely Feel this could be true Hawkwind have been giving the whole world so much enjoyment and incredible music over all these years and stìll ìn 2024 wowing the crowds❤❤❤❤
Sounds like the original version on live 79 to me. Epic album, epic version. The internal politicking over band members place in the hierarchy among fans is tiresome. I followed HW since 78 and their history is a revolving door of characters egos and influences that shaped the differing eras. We're outsiders looking in, who have no real idea of the complex ever changing band dynamics - that's been the Hawkwind story. It's incredible this band has been going for over 55 years, and Brock has been the constant. It survived the loss of Nik Turner, who arguably defined their 70s sound. Just like Motorhead without Lemmy, No Dave, no Hawkwind. That day won't be far away, but there is so much to listen to, love and remember. We should be so lucky to leave such a mark.
It was an incredible time; looking back, I think Bob was at his height with the band at this point. Without going into the band politics (which those of us who know this band run deep), I think Dave always resisted Bob, because through Bob's effortless talent, he became the effective creative leader of this band. Dave has always been more the bricks, the accountant if you will, but Bob as the creative mortar, glued it all together and even translated hyperspace for us. He really is from another planet.
Lol. Smoked some amazing resin the other night. First time in a decade. Listening to this with headphones on, I totally thought I was flying a spaceship! My GF was in stitches watching me 'piloting' SS Hawkwind!
That's the thing about Hawkwind they can have 10 different versions of the same song. Not all are great. In fact some are horrible but at times they get it right and this is one of them.
It sounds like the same performance as Live 79 but slightly different mix and a least it doesn't get cut off by the start of Brainstorm as it does on the Live 79 CD. the LP version was the best I think, which faded out at the right time at the end of Side One.
If this is a different mix to Live 79 I find it really difficult to tell. I've got this Anthology and it doesn't have (Alternative Live Version) written. In the Hawkwind Codex it lists this as the same as Live 79. It's a beautiful version, I love having Dave Brock vocal versions of any tracks he didn't originally sing.
It is the same performance as Live 79, so presumably from the same tapes. What I do like about it is that it runs straight into Urban Guerilla, as it did on the night.
Dave's voice is way better suited to this song than Bob's. Dave's got the vocal range and the bellows to get it up there. Bob sounds like C3PO's camp little brother.

this is 79 bob calvert was long gone
He left for the second time in 1979 after the excellent Hawklords album.
@@barmybee61 And joined up with, then left again in 1984.
The legends! Thanks Thanos! Hadn't heard this one before!!!
Yeh, I think this is the best version in my world, got it of some 'best of' CD. Nice and raw, volume is all over the shop but who cares.
Yeah, Who cares when your smoking a spliff..
Amazing song and best version. Underrated band.
True this is the best version of spirit of age. Love this tune
Saw them do this live.
My favourite version.
I agree, one of the saddest songs I've ever heard
how the fuck did I get here lol
Her divine nipples resemble all-seeing eyes and her mount a mocking smile.
Mound, rather.

@@Emulous79hahahaha love the fact you spotted the mistake 3 years after your original comment 😅
@@jamesleonard7439 I forgot I even made the original comment. Thanks for the reminder. Though I suppose one may mount the mound.
All versions are great 😍
Love this track. There is no better accompanying music for Intergalactic travel in a hot rod craft , like Hotblack and Desiatto. Right?

The only version that does the business..live
That would mean the 'standard / original' is no good
That's just
⚽⚾🥎🏀🏐🏈🏉
Brilliant track
just bought a ticket for sept 21, at the grand hall Liverpool, so sad its been postponed...only ever seen hawk lords......just hope...
Hawklords have been way better than Hawkwind for decades.
@@nodiggity9472 they played at me local 2 years ago, vintage stuff.....
Wow....if only...! Saw Nick Turner, here in New Orleans, a couple of years ago...it was amazing. Rock On!

I got this on a compo in a charity shop of all places. First time I'd heard it and it blew me away. Fan for life.

What a load of bollocks, this is the worse Brock has ever sang, this comment is a joke right ? at the expense of Calvert.

thr dogs bollax!
Huw Lloyd made a huge difference to their sound, he's missed
oh wuug , im spirit of the age ,mu ssirtiy giig up happyu go
next
This is 'Live 1979 ' and Dave is moaning Roberts name here, a try but amiss, no?
"When she comes she moans *your* mother's name"
Just listened to Calvert’s version doesn’t come close to this
A simple beautifuly performed song by Calvert turned mediocre with Brocks' hiddious rendition, "It's not the spirit of the age "
Dave's voice is way better suited to this song than Bob's. Dave's got the vocal range and the bellows to get it up there. Bob sounds like C3PO's camp little brother.
Neon yawn
I like both but prefer the sung version rather than the rap. It's probably because I heard it first....
@@robinbennett3531 yeh would have been ok without hearing Calvert's version
