Hehe - yep, me too - been looking for this specific version - had the album but couldn't remember it, so I've been on a quest, listening to every version til I hit this one. Love the vocal in this compared to the Quark Strangeness and Charm version.
Thank for upping this. I still have the lp (or was it ep?) but my turntable has long been dormant. I was 20 or so when I bought this in a cut-out bin for like $4. One of my most enjoyable finds scouring the sales bins at Record Exchange on Guadalupe across from UT Austin TX 1980s. Brings back good memories. Love the eerie lyrics. Muchos Gracias!
All thru this album I get this sonic image of them all sat on tour bus and there's a stone stuck in the back twin wheels...that. dumdum......dumdum.....
Out of all the recordings of this track, (and there are many) this is by far the best. Bob Calvert (much as I loved him) always sounded too camp to give it full justice.
@@uncleambient He's got a point. Bob sounds like Kit, the talking car off "Knight Rider" on the studio versions of this. Dave's got much more welly to throw at it. More volume. Bigger range. That's why this has become the definitive version. Well, that and Bob shufflin' off.
The best live version is this one below. From 77 with the great man himself (Robert Calvert) singing it, and adding an extra rant in the middle......by far the best live version of SOTA ua-cam.com/video/Hayal0Trmvg/v-deo.html
I've gotta agree with previous posters regarding this being the definitive version- is it Huw on guitar, sounds like his style, so expansive and melodic .Tremendous lyrics too -Your android replica is playing up again, it's no joke When she comes she moans another's name But that's the spirit of the age. What is it Lemmy said? The bastards sacked me but i screwed 3 of their wives, hopefully it isn't his name they're moaning!
Great album. Motorway City, a forever favorite.
the best version indeed . Huw Lloyd- Langton superb on guitar here.
And of course Tim Blake who was the best Synth player ever.
The best, and Hue'y rips it up. Class act.
OUTSTANDING version! The very best iteration of this classic tune!
Very first version I ever listened too here, and still the best out of them all, totally agree
yeh best version by far . .... Brock ,,,, I've just landed :)
The best version is the original one with Bob Calvert singing on the Quark album
For a live album, it's surprising how many of the tracks are the definitive versions. Not often that happens.
true
Been looking for this version for a while -thanks for u/l.
Just what I was looking for. Good man! Cheers.

Yes, it's Huw on lead guitar.
"When she comes she moans her mother's name"
+Kali Maa "another name" I think :-)
