This is amazing! I've never been to this mall, but really got to know it via UA-cam. I must say, so sad to see it being torn down but at the same time glad to see that it finally got put out of its misery.

If this is by the wrecking crew, it appears to be the very last time for recording this place relatively intact.

This mall deserves to be preserved forever. What an amazing piece of architecture.

Having never been to Rolling Acres, this is probably the best video I’ve seen as far as showing the layout of the mall.

This is the best and safest way to video this mall. Nice!

Thirty some years ago, I used to take my kids to this mall and eat in Restaurants around it. It used to be full of stores and full of people. Gradually, it started to decline when drug and violence drove the customers away. It is disgrace that our government has sent $150,000,000,000 to tiny country in the Middle East in the last thirty years, yet it has put zero effort and dollars to save our own communities in places like this in the mid-west.

The tiny country which shall not be named is plague upon the Earth. They will get theirs sooner or later.

Truth. May that tiny country burn in Hell.

Thanks for posting this. You should do an demolition update weekly on this considering of this malls internet fame.
I don't live in or near Akron OH so I cant watch it in person. I have to rely on UA-camrs in the area to keep me updated.

Just think, this mall was very busy full of people shopping. It's ashame how today's people shops online now. Great memories of this beautiful mall. Still have the pair of high heels from the wild pair. Bought in 1992, thank you for this clip.

Fantastic video thanks for this! The demo seems even more real now that the roof is gone over the main corridor too. Now if only someone would post video of the inside of JCPenney.

Any idea why JCPenney didn't get its windows broken and then trashed?

    • @LethaWolfStudios
      @LethaWolfStudios 7 років тому +1

jolie72046 sort of... I noticed in the years after it closed that windows got boarded up and another theory I have is maybe the building still had power because it has only been closed 3 years

Awesome video. I worked on a project that turned an old school into apartments. It is too bad this mall didn't get that chance...

cattleprods911 from the reports it sounds like it is in a high crime neighborhood.

The project I referred to was the old Waco (TX) High School, which was transformed into government housing. Really nice government housing, do a search. My job was to locate the reinforcing steel in the concrete roof beams above the old gym and drill holes (cores) to allow the fire suppressing pipes to pass through these beams instead of hanging from underneath, entirely the engineer's prerogative ,but it gave me a chance to see some of the nooks and crannies of this 1910 school. This area of Waco is probably worse than anywhere in Akron (I know the Waco area all too well). The time to do something with this mall was obviously years ago, when the new owner had an in tact (and huge) structure without water damage, scrapping damage, or hooligan damage. At 3 million + improvements, this could have been a fantastic old folks home, community college, recreation center, etc.

Too far gone by the time the city succeeded in its foreclosure efforts... if someone could have bought the mall sooner they could have at least saved the building, even if it wasn't going to be resurrected as a mall...

BEST footage of Rolling Acres I've seen! Fantastic job piloting the drone! Wonderful high-def, even in low-lit areas. It was almost like flying right through the mall myself!

So are they planning on demolishing the fountain as well? I've watched recent video where it has been demolished around, but the fountain is still standing. It looks lonely, but awesome at the same time :)

that mall must have had a different floor plan, I'm saying this because the main entrance way is a single floor, then when you get to a different part of the mall it has 2 levels, kinda wierd. I've never seen a mall built like that before. other malls that I've seen with 2 floors cover the entire building, this mall was different.

    • @bobsmithinson2050

The bottom level was dug out on that side later on during a renovation. So you’re right in thinking it’s not original

the lights might be because I hate this place speak in a recycling center so let me see you or the JC Penney's could be the recycling center and the target picking storage of America. most likely if you see the lights on in the store it's because it's the recycling center
