    maybe they destroyed the fountain later because 1. maybe they didn’t know if they were really going to destroy it or not and 2. they probably needed some more room around the fountain in order to demolish it

    Just think, this mall was very busy full of people shopping. It's ashame how today's people shops online now. Great memories of this beautiful mall. Still have the pair of high heels from the wild pair. Bought in 1992, thank you for this clip.

      There’s a group on Facebook with fans of this mall, some of which have actual tiles and other things taken from before it was torn down

    It would've been cool to incorporate that fountain and that canopy somehow in the new Amazon fulfillment center. Kinda like a reminder of what once stood there.

    So sad this was my childood, It could have been donated or sold, I sat at that fountain in 1996 with my grandmother. The world of today is only profit, and not care about certain things anymore.

    That was SO sad! That fountain was beautiful. I'd love to have had a red tile as a souvenir of a once great mall.

    A very sad day for everyone in every town that had a great mall...😪 growing up in the 70’s and 80’s culture I thought the township would have tried to preserve the fountain,or the chandelier you should have sold the RED tiles and donated the money to a local food bank ...... something seems very odd those of us who live in cold climate areas we tear down malls and build outdoor malls ????In their place,seniors “any age group”really have nowhere to walk and socialize ......now near me in my town Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania June 2018 I will be losing part of my youth memories Century III Mall will be closing it’s been coming for sometime “ like watching a friend “getting sick and dying ...you want to help but you can’t ....so remember the great times you had together......Peace😎✌️

    that mall must have had a different floor plan, I'm saying this because the main entrance way is a single floor, then when you get to a different part of the mall it has 2 levels, kinda wierd. I've never seen a mall built like that before. other malls that I've seen with 2 floors cover the entire building, this mall was different.

    • @bobsmithinson2050
      @bobsmithinson2050 3 роки тому

      The bottom level was dug out on that side later on during a renovation. So you’re right in thinking it’s not original

    Is that the central place of the mall where there were those beautiful escalators ? Sorry this mall has been demolished, I planned to pay a visit next year... I'm living in Europe. So, it's the end of a dream for me now :-(

    • @glamourgirl2123

      It was center court, but the fountain was the central point there... the escalators and elevator you are referring to were down the corridor to the south by the infamous JCPenney atrium...

    Thirty some years ago, I used to take my kids to this mall and eat in Restaurants around it. It used to be full of stores and full of people. Gradually, it started to decline when drug and violence drove the customers away. It is disgrace that our government has sent $150,000,000,000 to tiny country in the Middle East in the last thirty years, yet it has put zero effort and dollars to save our own communities in places like this in the mid-west.

    You guys should keep the front part of the main entrance of the mall, y'know, that thing that had the rolling acres sign on it? Just put a nice coat of paint on it and put a new sign up there and boom, it still looks good. Just paint over the graffiti and the label scar from the old rolling acres sign...

    They really should have preserved and restored that fountain...would have been a really neat piece of the past to have around. Just imagine, a brand new shopping center with the familiar red-orange fountain just inside the front door! That'd be so cool. But no, the city decides to just drop the whole canopy on it so it is crushed to smithereens. Perfect, now no one can enjoy it. Way to go guys...a piece of history, probably completely destroyed now.

    Ceiling yelled out in agony to the fountain "help! It hurts" but fountain did not respond. As he began to topple, he said his last words "I did good. Goodbye!" Ceiling continued to topple onto fountain. Fountain said "I'm sorry." As he said that, ceiling fell. The entac skylight shattered. All was quiet.
