This is the music of the smile. The early 1900s were a time when just about everyone owned a piano where family and neighbors would gather around and sing together. G. K. Chesterton said that records destroyed neighborhood singing. People started listening to professional singers for the silly idea that those people could sing better.
I’m enjoying the slideshow of ordinary people in daily life as much as the music. I would love to browse around in these general stores, drugstores, hardware stores & etc. of this era.
Those buildings still exist where I live and are just as beautiful and nostalgic as the music. Thank you so much for keeping the history alive for future generations.
I agree. The musical term for what is being done is called syncopation. Quite beautiful in ragtime pieces. If you’d like another interesting one, look up Peril In Pantomime.

I really appreciate the effort done to make the piano sound like a musical instrument. The attacks are pleasingly mellow, and the balance between bass, middle register and bass is exemplary. The tempo makes sense, too ☺.

Great music to do chores by. The sprightly pace keeps me in motion. The music me in a sunnier mood, too. It’s inherently optimistic.

These Quakers Are Shoulder Shakers
Blue Heaven
Bow Wow
