Um why didn’t you bring up the fact that FF8 Remastered is CENSORED when compared to the Original PS1 Version?
To be honest, I think the background will be remastered with HD texture as a DLC : )). These texture need re-drawn by hands due hand-drawn style texture, even with up-scale software, the texture will still need fix a lot, so it will cost time.

I enjoy the background like that lol I know it’s weird but it’s just brings me back to the old days. Looking forward to this game this is what started me on final fantasy the music is still the best
Man I gotta say what you did with the background really makes me wanna call them out for being lazy.
Pretty sure 7 is the same? If not it didn't change much if at all.
Calling it lazy is abit harsh, shows you have no idea the work that would take.
Atleast for me I'd rather it's price tag then pay an extra $30 for better backgrounds.
@@jakea3950 Did you even watch the video? He even made some himself as part of the video. All they had to do was take all the background images and put them through the AI upscaler. That takes one guy doing this for maybe a week after they figured out the correct settings for the upscaling software and POSSIBLY some retouching by some artist, if the AI interprets some background wrong. Well that's what a REMASTER is for. Touch up old graphics. They didn't have to redraw everything.
AI upscaling is an actual thing and it's not expensive or time intensive. It's really easy actually. It's not some thing where you sit 8 hours on any given background picture. More like 5 seconds. NVIDIA graphics cards do this in real-time now upscaling from 1080p to 4k at 60 frames per second or more.
This stuff is being done for free by people in their spare time as mods for the PC version. Having a remaster that costs actual money being released with these blurry backgrounds is just embarrassing. I could run a PS1 emulator on my PC in 2005 that could make the backgrounds look like in this "remaster".
There is no real argument of "retaining the original art-style" when it's all blurred to hell on modern high res LCD screens instead of CRT monitors. Whatever the reason was to not strive for higher res backgrounds (missing source files) it wasn't good enough considering that amateur modders managed to do it and make it look better.
I bougth it on the switch and loving it, i own the original PSX and the original PC versions though, but playing it on the go its a league of its own
You can avoid encounters by walking on the road/rail, or by pressing L2+R2 for escape. Besides those 2, there are also "Enc-Half (actually ¼)" & "Enc-None" abilities later in the game.
One thing I noticed is the audio isn't synced up right for Squall's short combo Renzokuken, and it throws me off sometimes if I'm not really paying attention. It's mildly annoying, but I love this game so I don't really care. I couldn't be happier that this is even a thing
Regarding the backgrounds. It's possibly a stylistic choice. One idea on top of the mod mentioned is to apply camera effects to different areas. Most of the scenes are very much photography based, it's the ones that use multiple effects and the ones that can't look better no matter what you do that would make that tricky. Alot of more style heavy games focus on particular effects in and of their scenes. It's a shame they did it like that and why not bring it into widescreen where applicable? Whatever, the card game is fun.
Seeing how you did it with very little effort, it upsets me they really didn’t spend any time or money on this one. Sad to see them give so little love to my favorite game. 😢 Still preordered it and going for the platinum though.

you didn't mention my biggest problem with this remaster....there's no vibration on the controller, and you can't turn the camera with the right analog joystick. it might sound nit-picky, but there was nothing more satisfying than pulling the trigger on the gunblade, and having that small rumble, to say "yeah, you are doing damage!!!!". really hope they patch this one in.

its too bad they didnt do this kind of a remaster for VII on ps4. I know its a beloved game and people would be upset if it changed too much but it would have been nice to have some character models that dont look like Popeye

I find myself liking it more on switch. It’s so easy and convenient. Quality I would say that on a tv it looks okay but handheld is the way to play. But PC or Switch the game is awesome :)
I would get it on Steam that way when the background mods come out your good to go. Plus the switch is just garbage anyway. What with the ghosting issues and the joysticks breaking
It looks great in handheld mode on a Switch. Im honestly baffled that reviews don't mention this. The backgrounds only look bad on a TV. When playing in handheld mode, it almost looks as good as the original did on a ps1 and old tv!!!! If your a fan, you need to try this. Trust me, you love it!! And those who have already discovered this, know exactly what I mean;)

im so tired of this "the junction system is complicated" nonsense. HOW? how in gods name did anybody find it to be complicated?
1.) you junction magic to stats
2.) different types of magic work best with different stats (ie : cure/life spells would probably be used for HP stats,no????)
3.) the stronger the magic the bigger boost the stat gets
4.) THATS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whenever your entire house of cards for disliking something is "It wasn't a direct sequel that was a carbon copy of the game before it", you gotta latch onto those things. The Junction system was 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱, Squall was an 𝗲𝗺𝗼, so Angels are jealous of VII for its perfection & VIII burns in Hell forever.
biggest problem was the need to find or extract needed magic for hours. yet after you did it was quite rewarding, yet extremely boring.
Give me a big Japanese developer that uses a fan mod and make a release that they call it their own.
It's not like they were supposed to use fan mod and sell it as their own. There are professional tools to upscale graphics using AI that could do the job. They could even write their own AI tool. The point is that they were just lazy and didn't do any of that.

I always wanted to play ff8 back when i was in school, but never got to. I did beat ff7 but all my friends were playing ff8.

FF7 was the first FF I ever played (I was 12 at the time of its release in 97) and I loved it. But I didn't rush to get 8. Well I *just* beat it before watching this. I played the PS1 version and after seeing this, surprisingly, I'm glad I didn't play the remaster. The remaster comes off like someone who got Botox; you don't have the wrinkles but you look "fake." This doesn't look authentic, so to speak. Might be the contrast of the background and the updated character models. I appreciate what they did though. Oh and I enjoyed the game experience very much!

ok, the blurry backgrounds look awful and make the characters look like cutouts in a different layer. I won't be getting this version after all. I'd rather play the ps1 version or the original pc version that at least felt like everything belonged in the same layer or image.

Agree. Though I love ff card games, gwent is by far the best card mini game in video games.

Just bought this now on psn on sale 10 bucks FF7 is 9$ and FF9 is around 10$ ps4 store not ps3 store
Can we plz update the gameplay as well as visuals in these its been 20+yrs now and innovation has occurred like paper Mario I think fixed this best cuz if we've gotta add in skip battles speed them up and even make it so u can almost skip it entirely which that's what I'd do cuz I just want the story I cant be bothered with the grind its not strategic at all n just I get bored it feels like a chore. The paper Mario helped with it cuz u can attack and defend n this made it feel like ur actually doing stuff. Or maybe make it more of an action rpg or something idk cuz it does feel like pointless to skip the part of thr game but its just such a grind too many games exist now that we really need these battles innovated or fixed entirely when we need features to make it tolerable for those like me with shorter attention span these days and more interested in story.
Its ofc options so that others can play how ever they want choices the spice of life
I love this game, I thought the ending was way better than 7, however, 7 had a better story.

Yes it's not big of a deal as it's only Sien and Rinoa's clevage but it's a change none the less and im getting tired of japanese games getting censored or changed.
they did this to fit the new *ehm* PS4 standards on nudity , bleh ... same thing is now done in Yakuza 3/4/5 remaster on PS4 when they have all Gay/Lesbian quests and suggestive nudity removed compared to the PS3 versions
@@hfricGotta love how sony screws over arguably its biggest fan base. Weebs kept them relevant when the ps3 was on deaths door. Now I know a lot of them are jumping ship to purely pc or Nintendo, me included.

I'm sorry, the blurry backgrounds are a huge deal-breaker for me. They make the whole game look like ass. What's the point of an HD remaster if you're not going to HD-ify the one thing that's occupying 90% of the screen, 90% of the time?
Heres the thing, people keep saying they should've used the AI image tool. But it is an IMAGE tool. The scenes in FF8 are not images they are 3D unlike many of the backdrops in FF7. This is why the imaging tool has not been able to up-res all of FF7 yet because many backdrops are 3D or have 3D elements. You may be able to up-res the detail in the textures at best but it would not improve the meshes themselves.
That is simply not true. Every pre-rendered background is just that. A pre-rendered image. Even the backgrounds with moving detail like the opening shot with Squall on the table with the curtain blowing in the background. That curtain isn't being rendered in real time. It's essentially a gif.

@@HateSonneillon lol, don't you know that a lot of background assets don't use much polycount for the mesh? The texture (diffuse, normal map) are more important for those background assets. And actually most background assets in FF8 has enough polycount for having good shape already, the rest are depend on textures, and all textures are 2D image, if you don't know. Not to mention there are a lot of asset are hard surfaces which don't need many polycount like board, banner etc... And many assets use textures with mask for transparent like fences, which really depend on the resolution of texture than polycount because they're just a flat surface.
Even the characters only increase polycount on their faces, fixing UV and higher resolution textures. You can still see the poly on their bodies because it may cause the mess with the animation and cost more time to fix, lol. Higher resolution textures are the most important parts of these remastered, not mesh with higher polycount lol.
A blurry mess speak for yourself on your switch version it's not a blurry mess on my switch if you want to talk about something that has blurry issues in certain parts of the game look at Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition now that has a lot of blurry points which is really sad and their god-awful I mean that game is a blurry mess in a lots of parts of it and plus the voice acting is terrible having George Grant as the voice of Yuri what's the new lines and not even bothering contacting Troy Baker the original voice of the main character they didn't even bring back the original voice of Judith that's why I usually play the game in Japanese voices does the English voice mode really sucks Plus Sandy Fox is a bad voice choice for Patty Fuller I think Patty's voice in English would have been better if they use Maria roses voice actress Miss don't call me look down on me and call me little I mean don't look down on me just because I'm little Maria Rosas English voice actress would have been a much better choice for Patty's voice she would have fit the character perfectly for the English voice acting of the game
I think Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 9 have a much better saving menu at least unlike stupid Final Fantasy 8 save menu remastered it doesn't end up when it comes to Final Fantasy 7 and 9 it doesn't do the stupid thing when you save telling you oh you're on this disk are your on this disk ruining the game of how much longer before you're done that's the mistake Final Fantasy 8 remastered save menu option is based off the original PlayStation 1 menu and I don't like it because it tells me how much longer before I'm done with the game and I hate that that creates a spoiler at least Final Fantasy 7 and 9 are based off the saved menu they gave their cell phone versions which those saved menus are better idea cuz they don't create a spoiler how much longer before you're done with the game cuz they don't tell you what disc Iran thank God that's what I hated about Final Fantasy 8 remastered every time you save it tells you what disc you're on and that's so stupid when it's not even on a disc on some of those systems like the switch that's just pathetic Final Fantasy 8 remastered is a great game but it's saved menu sucks I like Final Fantasy 9 and 7 saving menus much better at least they don't mention what disc you're on

Please change squall's face back to the original instead of that shitty, teenage dissidia/KH looking squall that just pisses me off!!! Won't get the game until they do an update! 😒

This truly is the biggest piece of shit remastered ever. Its fucking pathetic and annoying. The ps3 version feels superior.
