Same here. Just cried this time. Sometimes my self-doubt devores me. Deeply. This remarkable letter is my only way out to relax and DO IT. Hope, today, you keep yourself listening to this and enjoying your own creativity to work/ study.
its so cool to hear him say "practice being stupid" after hearing him as sherlock holmes telling everyone to start using their brains. i love it. he is absolutely brilliant.
This man. This. Man. This wasn't even a sad letter or poem or whatever and I'm crying. The kind of crying you do when you hear a beautiful song, or leave the city and really see the stars for the first time. He's so freaking talented that even doing something like this he makes me cry.
blu bois jesus I completely forgot about this video. 3yrs ago lol wow. I was going through a super intense Sherlock phase back then, but had always liked stuff like this before then. But anyway, I always really liked acting. The idea of trying to actually do it hadn’t occurred to me till recently, but I’ve always loved the technic and emotion you had to access to perform certain things. This was so amazing to me, I think, because I naturally focused on his performance of it rather than the emotion of the words themselves. But I’m a really big reader too, all over the board with my genres, so I’ll probably have to actually read the letter to get what you’re saying about the emotion and intimacy of the letter itself. But thanks, actually, for replying to this comment. I’d forgotten all about this; it’s nice to know I still like stuff like this 😊.
He has a way of putting you in the moment. I felt like I was there I went up and down laughed when needed but it’s beautiful. He is great at what he does. I agree with you
This letter in this reading should be a mandatory part of every curriculum from high school to university. Brilliant! The hint of a smile at 6.9 is priceless!
It's his voice, his movement, his facial expressions, his hand movement, the volume of his voice, his breathing damn even his breathing is the most fascinating and calculated things an actor could ever strive to do There is a reason there's no role he can't do, he is one of a kind
I am totally convinced this man can do no wrong when it comes to performing. Movies, TV, theater, audio....even reading a letter...he is remarkably talented. Brilliant! Fantastic job on the accent, too. Not to mention he is extremely easy on this girls eyes!!!
Didn't know Benedict also did a reading of this letter. I also love Andrew's reading. It's a very powerful message, not just to artists, but basically anyone who doubts in oneself and need a little motivation. I love it :)
I totally agree with you! I've got the videos as mp3 on my phone and every time I feel like I need some encouraging words, I listen to them. It helps me sooo much!
byAnna haha, same. I'm Italian and I always struggle so much when watching Sherlock. But now I finally understand him!! why is British accent so posh? lmao
I feel like I am being reprimanded for over-thinking, self-doubt and lacking confidence. It's quite a brilliant reading. Must come back to it again and again...
I want to show this speech to everyone in the world. Everybody should listen this wonderful letter. They especially should witness Benedict Cumberbatch's performance in this.
There are so many reasons I love this man He's not just a stupendous actor, he is everything nice somebody can dream of and at the same time he's just a man. People like him are precious to this world and I hope they will never be forgotten
sometimes when i need a pep talk i listen to this and andrew scott's reading because it sounds like sherlock and moriarty/benedict and andrew are motivating me and it's nice
When you compare Benedict's and Andrew's versions of this letter you can truly see how the same thing can be said in many different ways! Absolutely stunning, my hearts beats for those two beautiful men!
I am doing an overwhelm, stressed out and adrenal fatigue workshop right now and this video is POWERFUL. Many of us do not SHOW UP because of the fear, doubt and worry we carry around. These unprocessed feelings of being UNSAFE keep us from DOING. This is a great video for my class. Thank you.
I am so thankful I found this. I come back to it now and then and it always gets me back on track. I also live with a paralyzing agony, this fear of anything less than perfection. Sometimes I need to remember- just. DO.
I have watched this video so many times this week and I cannot believe how relevant it is in my life right now. As an actor, hearing these words is exactly what I needed. And on top of that this letter is read by Benedict, who is absolutely incredible! Love this so much.
This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The text is SO universally true and spot-on. Benedict Cumberbatch is absolutely brilliant. BRAVO
This is exactly how Moriarty would've read it. Remember, "Honey, you should see me in a crown!"? Also, Andrew read this piece just the way Sherlock would've. Loved both of them.
I don't find letter live fascinating cause most of the times It's kinda boring to me but this is one of the best performance we had from Letter live, cumberbatch put a lot of passion and work into this, I can tell. I wish we had more like this.
I love Benedict Cumberbatch's speeches. In fact, I love to hear him talk all day any day(LOL). He has that ability to make you believe in what he's saying. After all, he is an actor. IMO, this is my favorite speech. Brilliant and so true.
Today is 23/10/2024, and I’m writing this text for my future self to remind you that you will be proud of your younger self because I motivated myself to JUST DO!❤✨
This letter reaches me on such a profound and personal level. When I saw Letter's Live in NYC at The Town Hall in May 2018. It was truly amazing and actually live changing. (Lawrence Fishburne actually read this at the show I saw. Who doesn't love him? But Benedict Cumberbatch is one of my favorite actors. I fell in love with the show Sherlock.) I was brought into the past and suffered with sadness. I laughed about the letter to the maxi-pad company. I got to see such iconic actors on stage reading letters. I was really blown away. But returning to the letter and how it spoke to the secret place inside me. It tickled my weird humor. It spoke of my depression and anxiety. It told my story of self torture. I listen to it all the time to remind myself that I need to be empty, stupid and unthinking. I need to let go and shut up all the chattering of my insecurities. I am my own uncool. I can write and express my fears and anxieties. I remind myself every day that I am more than how I perceive I am. I am not piss trickling, at least not today! I am more. I can relax and let everything go to hell. I have at my power the ability to do anything. Thank you to Letters Live. I've been wanting to write you a letter!!
At first I cringed very hard at this until I realised that this way of performing was the ONLY right way. He talks about doing and not talking or thinking about it, but in a speech he has to talk about it! So he acts out as much of it as he can. If he would have talked in a normal, maybe also convincing way he would've gotten the whole point of this speech wrong. He really goes for it.. to a place of action and awkwardness which not many people are able to DO. Another proof of how much intelligence and bravery is required of a truly good actor.
I have never in my life met such an amazing man that makes my insides gushed and my face blushed with the redness of a child emerging from the depths of years of hiding and yet with just his persona and his mannerisms and the way his voice just so eloquently melts into every single word of this letter and fits me right in as if he wrote this letter for me and in all my existence I finally came across to hear this... god made such a man for me to respect, love and adore and I have absolutely fallen whole heartedly in love into his existence, art and his work. Blessed.
I completed my diploma in materiality in December 2019. By March 2020 we all were in deep with Covid. Eva became a hero of mine in my study of materiality. Thank you for this - Eva Hesse’s work evokes the same response as Cumberbatch’s performance here.
He isn’t just reading a letter. He has made Sol writing the letter actually come alive for us.
You all have no idea how much I respect this man.
we all do sad ...
he is one of a kind
Sas AsD same...
Sol LeWitt or Cumberbatch?
He is incredible isn’t it. I love and respect him so much.👍❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧
Sas AsD ❤️🙏🏻
I listen to this probably once a month, whenever I'm having a bad mental health day. It always helps me put my head on straight.
yes same it really helps to put it all into perspective
Couldn't agree more
Good shout!!! 👏👏

Eva Hesse’s work evokes the same response …
This letter in this reading should be a mandatory part of every curriculum from high school to university. Brilliant! The hint of a smile at 6.9 is priceless!
You know why this hits hard? Because it seems like Benedict is talking to you and he knows the feeling as well. He knows the struggles. I love this 🥰
Wow! He deserves an award just for that performance. Benedict is stunning.
It's his voice, his movement, his facial expressions, his hand movement, the volume of his voice, his breathing damn even his breathing is the most fascinating and calculated things an actor could ever strive to do

This one is pure gold. I just can't stop watching this.
This man has some magic in all of his performances. He manages to amaze me. Just a pure joy to watch and listen to him.
I knew he was good, but I didn't know he could do that. That was brilliant!
All the comments are mostly focusing on Benedict - he's great - but nothing without the words. Thank you Sol.
I am totally convinced this man can do no wrong when it comes to performing. Movies, TV, theater, audio....even reading a letter...he is remarkably talented. Brilliant! Fantastic job on the accent, too. Not to mention he is extremely easy on this girls eyes!!!
He's all that but can't say penguin
Except say penguin
It's four days now and I just can't stop watching it. I guess it's gonna be my hymn from now on.

Me too. I listen to Andrew's version every time I write any kind of test. But I think I'll always prefer Andrew's.
Same. Andrew's version is much more powerful in my opinion :3
Yes. It's more about the message of the text, which is not so obvious in this text, it doesn't seem so important.
And people say he can't do an American accent.
AJ Christopher Can you believe it? He can do whatever he wants.
Actually, his voice remind me Walter White.
+AJ Christopher Frankly (to be honest) he has more accents than more people credit him with.
No,It's good.
Anthony Domingo given u 400th like bro
I wondered why I finally understand what he's saying until i realized he's doing an american accent. Such an adorable human being.
