I did this yesterday with my car. I turned back 4 times to take the Stavelot-corner, i wanted to go again and again like a little kid. A strange but wonderful feeling.
An entire lap of Spa in a DB4 - just fantastic! The real pity is he didn't do a second lap so you could feel Eau Rouge, one of the most amazing curves in auto racing, at full clip.
@@robbie06061 The current pit complex wasn't constructed until the later 1980s. Look at the video of the 1986 Group-C race where Steffon Bellof was killed.
There are still some remnants visible of that sweeper today, I pointed it out to my friend only a few weeks ago when I noticed it while walking along the track. Brilliant video, love it!
@taylov917 there s actually total full lap...shame it s not 2 videos, one complete frontview, and the other complete backboard view. but still to nice video to believe

I think that the new Spa track begins just before the sweeping corner (0:46) on the Kemmel straight. There was a lot of cut and fill needed to create the new circuit because it would have turned right into that valley. There was also a lot of fill dirt needed to create the new attachment at Blanchemont corner because it was also a valley. Id love to find a before and after aerial photograph of the new circuit overlayed on the old landscape.
@@epistte Well basically the old circuit continues straight on down the road where the current Les Combes chicane takes sharply to right. The Kemmel curves were straightened to become the straight but as those curves were quite slight, the route was still close to where the straight lies today.
@@bebmeister656 that is the driver. Not sure if he is the same one commenting aloud, or is there is a copilot mechanic, as it was frequent in non F1 races at the time.
The road hadn't been closed for the race. Spa-Francorchamps was still public roads at that time. Most of the circuit was still open to the public drivers until 1990, except for the race weekends.

lucky you
RIP Lucien, who was mostly a Le Mans driver, where he won 3 times but died in a practice crash in 1969. He was doing what he loved.
And guess who was his nephew!
Bianchi was an ill-fated family in car racing.
@@thechoco777Yes,similar fate for the Rodriguez family:Ricardo passing away in an unofficial practice session and Pedro in an Interserie race.

There was incredible faith that all the members of the public living around the circuit respected that the practice session was in progress.
Unreal. Fantastic - - even before the pits were constructed.
+Colin McArthur 5:30 pits right there lol
718Gilbert This was the old original pit lane... i was there in '62 at the grandprix

Thanks for sharing!
I don't understand plus mas de la francaise, I do love seeing the original long course and seeing where today's corners actually were
It would be nice if they had the endurance race around the long circuit at spa.
It's so nice
@taylov917 the lap is complete, but they may have shot this with one camera only - making it footage form atleast two ciruicts of the track.
Superbe!
Great video!

I did not realize this gentleman was granduncle of late Jules Bianchi.
The rear-view camera is a bit annoying. There is very little footage of the kemmel section prior to 1980
the Kemmel straight wasn´t quite straight...

Was that a beetle going the wrong way at 0:18?
Nigel … it used to be a road but not when there are racing cars were the track
Is anyone able to name the commentator? He is superb
In the car? Lucien Bianchi, won 24h Le Mans in 1968 with Pedro Rodriguez.
Thank you Erik
