Helsinki is a favourite city and lived there for several years. The number 4 tram route from Munkkinemi was my daily commute. Last years return was just as special. Love the trams. Thanks for the video.

Hi Ook! You are right, the colors of the different bus companies are no longer visible in the street. The painting scheme of all buses is Helsinki Region Transport joint local authority. In fact, the orange buses have the same paint scheme, just different color. They are trunk bus route buses. Helsinki Region Transport also procure tram, metro, ferry and commuter train services. The name of the bus company is usually visible front on the sides in the upper corners and back. Companies operating here are, for example, Helsingin bussiliikenne, Nobina, Pohjolan liikkenne and Savonlinjat. my fondest memories of traveling are of Helsinki, that first neighborhood is made up of Jugensteil houses and buildings. Amazing. we would decompress for 10 days after a month in Russia, how nice it was to come back to the civilized world.

Hi Leif! I am really grateful that you and 29 thousand other UA-cam friends have found this video. This project was quite tedious when I added the maps, stop signs and announcements to the video. In reality, the announcements can be heard weakly in the cockpit, but I traveled through the route separately to get them recorded. When shooting this video, I had three cameras in use at the same time and there was not enough camera for the left. I recorded rear view while traveling with a colleague and recording stop announcements. At 28 minutes I'm amused when the little boy who got off the tram wanted to be Harry Potter and try open the tram doors again by pressing the door opening buttons with his magic wand. I don't have a bus driver's license like Taffu. To drive a tram in Helsinki, a driver's license for a passenger car is enough and the company trains from there on. Happy new year to you too!

Kyselit aiemmin laivamatkustajista niin mainittakoon, että jos erehdyksessä istuskelee Vyökadun pysäkin ohi ja päätyy Merisotilaantorille, on kävelymatka takaisin päin noin 5minuuttia. Mikäli odotteluaika on pidempi ja sää sallii, niin suosittelen kävelyä takaisin, ellei sitten nauti raitiovaunussa istuskelusta😁
Valitettavasti ihmishenkiä vaatineita onnettomuuksia on tapahtunut Helsingissäkin. Autojen kanssa onnettomuuksia taitaa tapahtua viikottain, onneksi niistä selvitään yleensä peltivaurioin. En muista kuulleeni uutisia rattijuoppojen aiheuttamista onnettomuuksista.

If you're wondering where all the people are, the city wakes up quite slowly on Saturday mornings. However, the bigger reason was the corona virus. Cafes and restaurants were closed, public events were prohibited and historically the province of Uusimaa was isolated from the rest of Finland due to the strong increase in infection cases.

Getting a bit confusing all that switching between views. Maybe better to split the video in two seperate ones: the 'Forward view', and a seperate vid, the 'Backward view'. And the side views for landmarks (like the cathedral, museums, ....) and place them in little pop-up screen in the vid. But otherwise very nice vid.
The best tram videos are those that only have the front view but list all the stops. In this video, the signs indicating the stop signs are too big and block the view. Switching between front, side and back view is totally unnecessary and confusing. Also showing the driver is not necessary but should be limited to one time only.
This video was filmed during the worst time of the Corona period, when the city had bans on gatherings of more than ten people, cafes and restaurants were closed and historically the capital region was isolated from the rest of Finland.
In the 1960s there was a plan called City-Center that would have demolished all the buildings on the right at 8:46. Fortunately only a small portion of it was implemented. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City-Center

My favorite tram route was with number 1, unitil they changed it and so it was not so great anymore.

I cycled most of the time but I occasionally used the No4 tram when I lived in Munkkivuori. I miss Helsinki and Finland.

If you're wondering where all the people are, the city wakes up quite slowly on Saturday mornings. However, the bigger reason was the corona virus. Cafes and restaurants were closed, public events were prohibited and historically the province of Uusimaa was isolated from the rest of Finland due to the strong increase in infection cases.

Punaisia päin kulkevat, liikennesäännöistä muutenkaan piittaamattomat, ovien välissä roikkujat ja väärin pysäköivät ruokalähetit sekä tietenkin talvella lumivallien takia kapenevat kadut luovat mukavaa vaihtelua niin leppoiseen työntekoon 😅
Getting a bit confusing all that switching between views. Maybe better to split the video in two seperate ones: the 'Forward view', and a seperate vid, the 'Backward view'. And the side views for landmarks (like the cathedral, museums, ....) and place them in little pop-up screen in the vid. But otherwise very nice vid.
Thanks for the idea of small pop up screen. Maybe I test the idea in next video.

The best tram videos are those that only have the front view but list all the stops. In this video, the signs indicating the stop signs are too big and block the view. Switching between front, side and back view is totally unnecessary and confusing. Also showing the driver is not necessary but should be limited to one time only.

This video was filmed during the worst time of the Corona period, when the city had bans on gatherings of more than ten people, cafes and restaurants were closed and historically the capital region was isolated from the rest of Finland.

In the 1960s there was a plan called City-Center that would have demolished all the buildings on the right at 8:46. Fortunately only a small portion of it was implemented.
