That bellowing bass and that ambience in the music is something I'd expect from a section of Silent Hill 3.

This game is 22 years old and still there is content found everyday.
That's how good this game is

Very cool to hear! Really love seeing things like this that give us a glimpse into the earlier stages of the game. You can see what they were going for, but the end product ended up being so much better. Also so cool to see you working with the goat themselves glitterberri!

Although the music they ended up using is perfect, it's a shame they cut this out completely! An interesting sound

baseless speculation but since it sounds way more like combat music, i wonder if team ico had a different idea for what the last shadow encounter would be, maybe it used to be a standard boss fight.

Bro I still have this demo disc it’s why I became fascinated with ico , I wonder why there was minor changes like how you climb the windmill in the demo it’s actually wild that there is some differences in the actual files that was taken out before the main game release

@@themoongateofficial I imagine the Windmill puzzle was different in the demos because they probably still needed to modify the ledge detection on the fan blades. In the final game, they force you off the ledge if Ico's hands can't begin to match the vertical angle of the rotating fan blade. I imagine it took a bit of work to make that function properly. And until that was ready, they had to put spokes on the Windmill to convey the point of the puzzle without that special ledge detection.

Super super cool. Almost sounds like Half-Life 1 music.

its a nice music track, but I kinda understand why the final version was used instead of this. I may be wrong and probably still didn't get what they're aiming for with this scrapped one so forgive me if that's the case.
You see, the final version kinda implies something very _VERY horrible, in a haunting_ sad tune, about those shadowy figures, who coincidently look just like Ico, a child with horns on his head, which makes this event very unsettling and heavy in a sad way, if yk what I mean
The scrapped one doesn't imply that info the same way that *Shadow* does, instead having a beat and some "game"ly and eerily playful? even an partying vibe towards it. Although it might imply the same thing, its not the same way and I'm not sure if this is more disturbing or not, due to the thoughts I'm having about this. I'm even surprised this was an alt version of *Shadow* instead of *Darkness*
Like, As I'm now watching this, this seems like a shadowy party, and you happen to appear in the moment and make every one of them disapppear, also I just remembered that they were supposed to hurt our boy in this part, credits to Nomad for finding that. So it's like a eerily party with these shadows? whether these characters might hurt you for fun, like a bullying group, or defense, as we make Ico hurt them, I guess? Are they enjoying this? Is the Queen enjoying this? Is Ico?
So either the final version does it better, or this event had an alternative tune or it was implying something almost entirely different about it and they changed their minds about it later. I have so many questions now

Wishful thinking but this sounds like something you'd hear in a PS1 game

@@Aria-Mirazaer I actually agree. There's something to this soundfont that feels familiar. I personally wouldn't find it out of place if it were among the tracks in Tekken 3's OST.
But I'm no expert on what musical software would have produced these sounds, so I'm about as confident as you can be in that assumption.

Sounds like it would fit right in with a Shin Megami Tensei game

Really interesting, but I think I see why they replaced this song.
btw I simply cannot stand the NA cover hahah.
    What were they thinking?

@@Nalhy There’s an article you can read about that titled “The Story Behind Ico’s “Terrible” North American Box Art”. But that piece doesn’t provide the full picture of *Why* they had to entrust a third party packaging company with the art.
That question is explained by the fact that ICO released to the United States first, in a relatively unpolished state. Team ICO likely couldn’t afford the time it would take to develop their own packaging because they were rushing to get their game in a finished, presentable state for US players. They would then spend the months leading up to December adjusting and tweaking many aspects of the game, providing the polish that they didn’t manage for the North American release. That’s why the differences between English PS2 versions of the game (the NTSC-U and PAL regional versions) are so distinct.
