Madam, I'm not took permanent teacher for veena, because of my family situations is poor. But I'm very interesting learn veena. So long I don't know the correct place. Now I learn that's through yours video. Thank you mam. Put video for panchdasa gamakas.❤
I am Hindustani classical singer who loves Veena. I have been following your videos to learn. Extremely helpful. Thank you so much. I had a question regarding thalam strings. With the change in the piches do we change the thalam strings oitch or it remains the same.
Learnt a lot reg how to change the pitch. Thank u mam If u can demonstrate the tuning of the string, say, how to tune for 'SA' that would be more useful I feel.
Mam all k but some body's sung bajans 1 1/2 scale mam they also telling u want to change string. But now clear one doubt 1 1/2 scale means dha 1 r dha 2 mam pls explain me mam very helpful mam 🙏🙏🙏🙏thq u so much mam
Thanks Simi for your comment. I dont use these pick ups for playing. A normal microphone is ok by me. But the market is now flooded with a lot of pickups and amplifiers . You need them both to get the booming effect.
Seetha Kalyanam is generally played in Madhyama. If you change your core pitch you are effectively changing the sruthi of madhyama too. For eg. if your core pitch is D# then Madhyama will be G#. If your core pitch is D then madhyama becomes G. At E the Madhyama is A and so on.
Ma'am, I have a question. I am not a student of music, but I am a keen audience member. Are the frets placed in equal temperament? If so, how do veena players such as yourself play the pure notes of just intonation? Thank you for this video!
Janani thanks for your interest. If I understand your question right, then no the frets are not placed equidistant. As you move to the upper octaves the distance moves to half and then a quarter. Intonation is purely the understanding of hand dynamics and note frequencies as understood and identified by hearing.
Thank you very much for sharing this. It opens up a whole new way of understanding and playing.
Thanks

I am Hindustani classical singer who loves Veena. I have been following your videos to learn. Extremely helpful. Thank you so much.
I had a question regarding thalam strings. With the change in the piches do we change the thalam strings oitch or it remains the same.
They mostly remain the same, because the tension of the strings are such that they will break for pitches higher than F.
Learnt a lot reg how to change the pitch.
Thank u mam
If u can demonstrate the tuning of the string, say, how to tune for 'SA'
that would be more useful I feel.
I have already posted a video on tuning the Saraswathi Veena. ua-cam.com/video/GnyPLuK7Ww0/v-deo.html

Yes you are right D2 will be one and half and D1 will be one , on the second string. Start your S from there.
How to play veena in madhyama shruthi ? Like raga punnagavarali . Please help.
Best wishes
Thank you mam..well explained..How can we identify pitch of film songs.?
You will have to learn to hear the Shadjama (Sa) in the film song and then carry it forward like I have explained.
Mam, what are the attachments used in veena to get good sound effects.?please do a video about it..
Thanks Simi for your comment. I dont use these pick ups for playing. A normal microphone is ok by me. But the market is now flooded with a lot of pickups and amplifiers . You need them both to get the booming effect.
@@malaviswanathan Thank you mam
Very valuable lesson. One doubt-for eg, seetha kalyanam is played in the madhyama sruti-can it be played in different srutis?
Seetha Kalyanam is generally played in Madhyama. If you change your core pitch you are effectively changing the sruthi of madhyama too. For eg. if your core pitch is D# then Madhyama will be G#. If your core pitch is D then madhyama becomes G. At E the Madhyama is A and so on.
Some time they keep the core suruthi asG and play from madhimam. What pitch is that
It is C
