Hey Stu!, small nuance about the Redditch Enfield model names (once they got them!): The 500 single was the Bullet and the 500 twin was the Meteor. When the 700cc twin came out it was the Super Meteor, then they gave it twin carbs and made the Constellation. The last evolution was to expand the engine to 750 and make the Interceptor. Plus some of these had Indian Brand model names for the US market in the late '50s
Morning Stewart. No two way about it Royal Enfield are making some nice and reliable bikes, but... I'd love to see a 750cc with around 60bhp. Yes to me size still matters same as having some hump as well. But that said, my love affair with my 650 Super Meteor continues and I can't wait to head back to Cornwall next year and visit Norwich plus a long weekend on the Isle of Wight. Safe cruising sir, and hope you feel better soon 👍...
The yellow and white Bear that’s being teased is stunning, but even though it hasn’t arrived in the states, I find myself looking at the Guerrilla simply because it’s such an amazing deal.
Good morning Stu. Enjoyed the video. I tend to only go to the NEC bike show every other year for the very same reasons that you mentioned. I missed last year so will probably go this year. Other manufacturers bikes don’t really do much for me though. It just seems like a competition on who can make the largest engine size.
As usual, great video Stuart. I hope they correct the mud guards from the early pictures, they don't have the coverage and look of the Classic 350 reborn. The full fenders are part of the Classic charm.
Evening Uncle Stu. I've been away on holiday to Bangladesh since the Royal Enfield dealership is now up and running. It was absolutely fantastic seeing the new interim government allow higher cc motorcycle sales, supposed to a limit of 165cc its been raised to 375cc, although the segment RE has released are only the 350cc bike majority have already pre booked online and in person.
My next bike will be focused on pillion comfort, and capable of American highways. I already have the Classic 350 and two Himalayans, so i have been focused on the Super Meteor. However i have several miles of dirt trails to get to the asphalt, so mid controlls are important to me. Ive been holding out for the Classic 650 for so long. Anxious to see if the fit and finish can top the Super Meteor, and keep my favorite Classic style and configuration. Will definitely be upgrading to a touring pillion seat and back rest.🤞
Hi, Uncle Stu. I saw my first Super Meteor the other day. A couple had ridden from Newcastle,( NSWales), a fair way up the East coast, down through where l live, on the coast on the bottom right- hand corner of our mainland, on their way to Phillip Island bike races. The couple were very pleased with the bike and, the way it had behaved for their long distance trip. As l live 6 kms. out of town, l miss seeing the thousands of bikes and this is the first RE that l have seen. I hope that you are feeling better soon!!
The Classic 650 comes just a "little" bit late. I was waiting for it to be released, but when BSA dropped the price of the new Gold Star, my impatience got the better of me and RE lost out on a sale.
It might have a job to do against the glut of unsold Interceptors, Shotguns, etc, at knockdown prices this winter. One would imagine there are only so many iterations of the 650 twin before apathy sets in. A big bore version might pique interest.
Totally agree with you regarding Motorcycle Live…after many consecutive years of attending it did seem to be the same with very little evidence of new bikes. This Year will be my 1st attendance for a while and for the very reasons you have described in this video… Royal Enfield. Great video & hopefully if you drop any hints on this channel when you will be going, we’ll also see you soon. 👊😎👍
Do manufacture's need more models to bloat their catalogue or should they focus on making thier current stable the very best they can be? Jack of all , master of none ?
Especially in relation to Uncle Stu’s post from last week about dealers going bust. I think lessons need to be learnt from the big four Japanese manufacturers, they’ve got so many bikes across all of their ranges, it must be getting increasingly difficult to have all the tooling and production lines for all those models, and then when they get to the showroom floor, only a few are sold. If the margins on bikes are as tight as we all think they are, it just seems foolhardy to keep expanding into more and more models, when the number of buyers of motorcycles appears to be getting less and less. And with thousands of used bikes in stock across the UK, don’t expect your dealer to offer you a good price on a trade in, if they will take a px at all.
@williambell12 when I use to have a small drum making company I was given this advice on not playing the release a new range every year game. Rather to listen to feedback and focus on making the best you can. Easly transferred to any maker of anything. The only winners at yearly shows are the organisers until the manufacturers can not keep up. I saw many a show end because of dwindling maker involvement inc me.
Yep. That Sherpa 450 is peach of an engine. It covers two models. An adventure and a retro styled roadster. That's all it needs for now in this economic climate, with plenty colour options. You're gonna like one surely. I do.
@@williambell12 they’re true multi purpose bikes. Was watching Adam Reiman on UA-cam yesterday riding the Himalayan in Nepal and India. Such a capable machine especially with the right rider on top. As Dave said, needs some tweaking to make it even better, I’ll be interested to see if the 2025 Himalayan has those in place - I read somewhere that RE will change the sidestand so it doesn’t lean over as much.
Stuart the photo of the electric bike is a custom build which featured on the TV Series “Vintage Voltage” some years ago when they put an electric motor into a modern (fairly) RE
Thanks for a great video. I have a suggestion. I would like to see a video of how motorcycle shocks and springs actually work and how they affect your ride.
When the INT650 was released, plenty of owners including myself tried to make it look a little more like a scrambler. If it looks close to leaked images scattered across UA-cam then I'm genuinely interested.
Hello Stuart, like other previous comments, I might go this year just for a day out and try to get a new pair of gloves, but that would be the only reason for going. Unfortunately times have changed and I'm still quite happy with my Interceptor 650. I can't see the point of anything much bigger than 650cc these days and the price of some of these bikes,,,,,! My local (Auckland NZ) dealer told me after our NZ Motorcycle Show that, according to the Aus / NZ importer, we'd see the Bear before we see the Classic in our showrooms. I don't really care as long as I can get 19/17 spoked wheels.
NEC i just want to say ..the best ever range renewsl was Hondas in 1978 CBX 6..CX500..750/900F-250/400T Dreams..the Benly 185 ..the 250n superdream holds the record for most uk sales of any bike over 100cc! Can i ask a question viewers what is the highest mileage 650 Enfield out there? Are they good for 70k plus?
I have no problem with a Classic 650 twin engined bike at all, although a big air or air/oil cooled single would have been preferable to me. The only issue I have is that they appear to be going down the same route as the new 350. The J Platform was I think obviously designed primarily for the Meteor and Hunter. The Classic 350 was very much treated like an afterthought and they just grafted on a 3D photocopy of a Classic 500, using plastic inner panels to make it hold together. The new Classic 650 appears to be much the same, with the frame originally designed for the Super Meteor and 'Classic looking' panels grafted onto it. The Interceptor and both versions of the Himalayan have dedicated frames. It's a shame that they have chosen not to do this with the new 350 and probably the new 650 in my opinion.
Electric motorcycles will eventually be suitable for touring, but it is unlikely that that will happen before the end of this decade. It would really make sense - with the current technology - to bring some cool looking city bike. Surely many must have seen the re-borned Czech CZ in electric form a couple of years ago using basically unchanged design of the old bike. It had a decent range and power, but the cost was probitive to most potential buyers and the startup company did not make it. But that kind of e-motorbike would currently make the most sense IMO.
I have the Interceptor 650 that I turned into a scrambler so I’m interested in the Bear. I like everything about it and would definitely buy one. Personally I’m not a fan of any of the classics (I’d rather have a TFT dashboard and way less chrome).
650's seem a bit large for general everyday use these days or a bit heavy for off road usage, why cant we have a lightened 350 with better ground clearance and a 21" front wheel (Scram 411 is same weight as a classic reborn 350 and if I could get an accurate reading from the speedo using manufacturers parts to fit a 21" front wheel I would have a perfect off road machine for me without the himalayans clutter and extra weight ) have been looking for a left hand gear change 500 pushrod bike to modify but the prices still seem a bit high for what they are. sorry for the musings of a madman 😁
Like you, the interesting bike to me is the Classic 650. In a perfect world, they would have made a well balanced large single cylinder, air cooled 500-650cc engine with 30-40+ HP in the classic styling. Essentially a BSA Goldstar but, with the huge industrial, Capital power of Royal Enfield. I predict BSA will falter and fail, not because the bike is bad, it isn't. It has tremendous appeal to me, especially after your review. It will fail because it does not have the infrastructure, track record and powerful corporate framework supporting it, like RE.
NEC show time? Don't forget to speak to your bank manager for a burger loan. Last time I went I swear I could see tumbleweed blowing past the Japanese bike displays. All very sad, but we have the memories!
I just have my fingers crossed there will still be a Bullet 350 next year. Was looking for a maroon one recently and there are none! Dealers have none. RE have none. They have sold out the Euro5 version and there is no news on when or whether there will be a Euro5+! Any info Stu?
Stuart. Another on bites the dust " Pidcocks Nottingham". I was speaking to a "Finance Manager " the othe day and was told others on there radar. ( A bit nearer home. !!).
The Classics are getting further and further away from actually looking like a classic. The 650 looks horrible, no charm or character at all like the older ones had. 👎🏼
I can't help but feel the 650 motor is more like a modern Japanese variant than a true old style long stroke of yesteryear. It is perfect in the current versions, but as a classic it's just a styling exercise.
My main concern for RE is that apart from the Himalayan, it appeals only to people who like modern classics. Motorcycling is renown for fads and bikes going in and out of fashion and I have no stats but I just get the feeling that the fad for modern classics and the DGR image is coming to an end. Of course it will come round again eventually with a new generation of riders (doubtful that we'll be allowed to move out of our 15 minute zones on any conveyance mind) but RE, Harley Davidson and Indian will find it tougher than others like Triumph and BMW who cater for other genres and fashions. In my experience (myself included) the modern classic is kept as a 2nd or 3rd bike for those rare days when it's sunny or at least dry. Also with the current inflation it really is a luxury for many people and so more people are looking for a do it all bike that they can commute to work one week and comfortably tour Europe the next. This is the growing space that the likes of Benelli, Voge and CF Moto are exploiting and if RE is to survive, it's next models need to be along those lines not simply a scrambler or yet another variation of a classic.
The question is, like all motor manufacturers I guess, is how long they wish to subsidise certain geographical markets from success in other parts of the world. Time will tell but they certainly need to start appealing to a certain demographic here.
Don't get chilled through. I'm going to predict motorcycles will have a major revival at some point in the UK. Probably still a decade away, people who had e bikes and e scooters will discover the advantages of the ice unless you believe moggy and the electric sales patter. I don't mind the concept of electric but BEVs are still fundamentally flawed in the old way along with new ones. There are enough bikes already to keep going for the next 50 years.
You said waiting for the classic 500 last year. What happened 650 I’d class as a big bike, not for me. Plus I’ve looked at 2025 classic 350 colours not impressed the red and the blue looked toy like and they’ve dropped the halcyon grey.
They need to make a usable small electric bike for nipping about on a flying flea equivalent would be interesting but probably not on my list for consideration. My EV car has put me off EVs for good
Enfield should have put out a scrambler 4 years ago...bit late to the party... hopefully they will give it a bit more umph!!....retro A2 overkill no thanks!!
Hope you get to feeling better soon. As far as the electric bike….not interested. Eventually here we will either be forced to ride/drive electric, or they will make operating any fossil fueled engine prohibitively expensive to operate. At that point I will not ride any further.
My daily commute is just over 100 miles. So an electric bike is a very definately a none starter. The picture you have shown has to be one of the most ugly bikes I have seen.
The bear 650 could be the bike Iv been waiting for!!

This is the growing space that the likes of Benelli, Voge and CF Moto are exploiting and if RE is to survive, it's next models need to be along those lines not simply a scrambler or yet another variation of a classic.
lol royal enfield sell around 38,000 classic 350s per month. the western market is only a drop in the Ocean compared to their domestic sales.
The question is, like all motor manufacturers I guess, is how long they wish to subsidise certain geographical markets from success in other parts of the world. Time will tell but they certainly need to start appealing to a certain demographic here.
Classic 650,,, or constellation 650, the latter would revive yet another Royal enfield mark
Call me naive in terms of engineering, but I hope there’s a future for a Classic 650 with a kickstarter, as well as the 350 models
That van that belted past you didn’t achieve much did it ! Usual pointless behaviour.
Not too sure if I want lithium batteries in my garage. I think I still prefer the sound of an ICE single. This e version may bite them.
Thanks! But a ~32 HP mono would be sooo fine 😔
Amazed that Enfield don’t make the 500 twin
Personally I think the NEC Show is a rip off. When the Caravan Show was £14 including free parking. Not been for about 6yrs, for this very reason.
Fury 650 sports bike please!!!
What's the point of showing new bikes when dealers are going out of business all across the country? Or I suppose you can get them on line 😜
this channel has an international audience
You said waiting for the classic 500 last year. What happened 650 I’d class as a big bike, not for me. Plus I’ve looked at 2025 classic 350 colours not impressed the red and the blue looked toy like and they’ve dropped the halcyon grey.
i was wrong, well so far anyway!
👍👍
👍
Good bikes but under powered as per.
What an ugly bike that is .the electric one that is.
My daily commute is just over 100 miles. So an electric bike is a very definately a none starter. The picture you have shown has to be one of the most ugly bikes I have seen.
electric motorbike 🤣
