Okay, but can you just imagine how distraught Huaisang was when he watched his brother die and was consoled by Jin Guangyao, just to later find out that man killed his brother? Then, he came up with this elaborate plan to take down his brother's murderer. He used Mo Xuanyu's pain to his advantage: If he's going to kill himself at some point anyway, might as well put him to good use and bring back Wei Wuxian. He then set everything up to where the arm of his brother would be released right when Wei Wuxian came back and could find it. He leads Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan through this whole elaborate maze of finding his brother's body parts just to put them back together and reveal the true Jin Guangyao, along with capturing Xue Yang. And throughout all of it, he managed to retain his 'head shaker' image. No one found out about him until the end when everything had been settled and Jin Guangyao had been killed. He got his revenge, and he did it almost flawlessly. Plus, WangXian got their happy ending, Zewu-Jun isn't being manipulated anymore, and the entire cultivation world is out of Jin Guangyao's clutches. Nie Huaisang is a true mastermind and definitely isn't appreciated as much as he should be.
