Thank you very much🌟
I'm honored! And your performance is amazing😃
Thank you for taking the time to watch! ☺️ Keep up the great work!
Yoyoka ROCKS!
Aaw... Yoyoka is such a lovely wee person!
And both of those performances were absolutely awesome. 😁
Yoyo, No Way. Is this really You!😃
@@WavePotter Isn't it amazing, we are witnessing an 11yr old, who is already a legend in the making?
@2:20 Fellow Drummer here. Seeing that Neil Peart had massive drum set with 7 toms that allowed him to roll across numerous toms, and Yoyoka has a 5 piece kit (3 toms), she does not have much of a choice here. She is an amazing drummer and hope she gets the recognizes she has earned and deserves. Impressive.
I couldn’t agree more! Just to clarify I was just nitpicking the pattern because as I was really digging into this song and listening to it at half speed I realized that Neil did a triplet at the beginning of that fill and then transitioned into 16th notes, where she just goes into the 16ths as far as I can hear. Doesn’t matter at all. Just trying to give an honest assessment after all my YYZ research. 😅
My personal favorite from Yoyoka is her Steam cover from Peter Gabriel
She murdered that!!!! Totally made it her own.
Look at burn from Deep Purple.
Great job. And don’t worry, she’s a ringer. Billy Sheehan is her bass player, she’s played with Char, Carmine Appice, backstage at KISS hmmm, Cyndi Lauper, Fallout Boy, huge festivals and fashion shows, sponsees many big name brands, Pearl endorsed(sent her to NAMM), twice on Ellen show, something like four albums of originals with the family band, and has had her own web series drum course for over 3 years )now that she’s 11). She’s got the groove. Check her cover of Anderson.Paak’s Put Me Thru...
I may have told you this before, But if you haven't seen her Stray Cats cover it's really worth a watch for entertainment. She is standing up the whole time, jumping up and down while never missing a kick on the right pedal. At 1:20-1:35 her left foot actually leaves the ground a few times. She's making funny faces and swinging her stick side to side when she's hitting the cymbal. Cracks me up. She's happier than usual, if you can believe that. Stray Cats - Rock This Town / Cover by Yoyoka Soma , 8 year old ua-cam.com/video/Q8X-JAJ7CBw/v-deo.html
I watch it once a week per doctor's orders.
She is massively talented at 11! ..she will be a monster at 21! Being able to cover Neil Peart (RIP) at 11 is incredible!
Came for Yoyoka, stayed for your cover! Really well done!
Thank you!
Yeah, I gotta agree, I'm glad you added your cover of the tune to your video. So many reaction videos are just that: reactions. ONLY. Most of those people can't do the thing they're reacting to and I wonder why people care about their reaction, like "Who is this guy/gal & why do I care?" You made your reaction video LIVE by giving an HONEST assessment, instead of just marveling, and then showing the results of your own efforts. Good job there, but keep it honest & don't get too smug knowing that 99.999% of the population out there cannot do what you do. Keep rockin'.
@@TheBsavage thank you for your thoughtful comment! I really appreciate you taking the time to say that. I liked watching Yoyoka play drums because it reminds me I’m not that great. 😋
Same here. Playing not only the drums but the guitar and bass too (and we are talking about a complex Geddy Lee bass part). Now THAT'S impressive. Have subbed.
Incidentally, has everyone heard the news today that Alex and Geddy have said they "are eager to make new music together" (after a full year without Neil)?
That’s exciting to hear! And thank you so much 😊
Wow. Yoyoka is ridiculously good-actually it is disturbing how good she is. However, your performance covering YYZ on three instruments is incredible. The talent displayed on this video is fantastic,
Very nice drumming of you, too, man!
The thing is she can’t read the music scores so she gets all from own her ears! Amazing!!
Check Yoyoka's newest video, a cover version of Deep Purple's "Burn". It is a quantum leap beyond anything that she's done before.
And then watch Ian Paice's reaction vid 👍
Great review Wave. Been watching Yoyoka for awhile. Ever since her Good Times Bad Times rendition. You play great. You hit crisp and solid. You play as hard as Bonham.
Thank you so much for the kind words Brendan! I’m definitely planning on checking out her Good Times Bad Times cover soon!
I knew yoyoka was going to nail it. I've watched every vid of hers I could find, a joy. But you, I totally wasn't expecting you to cover the drums AND the whole song. Nice man. Very nice.
Thank you!
Wave, You know you are going to watch her entire body of work on UA-cam. It is so worth it. Her Grand Funk cover of American Band is perfect. She is also known to be a cure for the blues since everyone can't help but smile when they watch her. Read to comments that people leave on her videos. She commands respect. Really enjoyed your cover while I wrote this, thanks.
I agree with your comment about being a cure for the blues. I have a terminal illness and watching her makes me want to live longer just to see her progress in her playing skills.
@@TheBsavage I’m sorry to hear that but it’s amazing that music can do that. Thank you for watching!
@@WavePotter Yeah, it's a bummer, but I don't dwell on it much. Watching Yoyoka makes a dark day a little brighter. If I could do what she does I'd be doing it nonstop.
Her covers are never intended to be 100% accurate. She doesn't read sheet music, so she learns all songs by ear. In an interview, she said that she likes to learn the drum part to a song and add her own style and interpretation to her covers.
Dude, you playing the whole thing! All instruments! Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyym
Thank you for watching and sharing your enthusiasm! I appreciate it!
Great playing man, and yeah Yoyoka rocks too. She's incredible.
You are an impressive person yourself by being prepared to be inspired by someone a lot younger than yourself and continue to improve and it shows. You are an awesome player.
That’s so kind of you to say. Thank you!
Her drums wakes me up. I don't wanna hear good things, I want to be woken up.
Just chiming in here. Personal Yoyoka covers are "By the Way" RHCP, "Good Times Bad Times" LED ZEPPELIN (Jun '18 version, when she was 8), "Rosanna" Toto which features the "Pocaro shuffle"!
Awesome dude, thanks... I didn't realise you'd covered it as well when I just posted, incredible talent all of the parts, wow.... I'm astonished
It was my pleasure. And thank you!
Thanks for the treat of your own cover after this. Nicely done sir! Great example of what happens when you start young and add 20 odd years of practice and developing muscle memory. Your ride hits are much tighter and neater, giving you much more accurate timing. Yoyoka is great, but she's throwing a little Bonham on it.
That’s so kind of you to say. I really appreciate it!
Something I have learned about Yokoka is that when she is doing a solo cover she is a Girl Who Just Wants To Have Fun. It shows in the performance. But when she is playing with a group, she is not a girl anymore. She is a Master Performer, and she has on a War Face.
I'm not a musician, so I can't tell if someone has missed a note or gone off beat. Just an old metal head banger loving the younger generation.
Your performance was great.
Where you win, you have all three instruments down! That is outstanding. Where Yoyoka gets points is how she can appear completely at ease performing this. You both inspire me to improve (a lot) and I’m older than both of you added together.
Thank you for watching! I’m glad it inspired you!
Imagine the Professor coming back and having her for a student, possiblties are endless. Neil will be forever my number 1, I know led zep, the who, still Neil wrote most of the lyrics, the guy logged nearly a million miles on a bike starting at 40 years old, several books published, yet a very humble guy. Iam sure he s in the Choir upstairs. Neil s soul is smiling somewhere, keep it up little one!!!
Nice job on the cover! Even if I didn't know all the covers yoyoka does she still brings the best and the love.
Bottom line she is having fun!
The only reason she missed any notes is because she doesn’t have anything approaching the kit that was used to play the song originally.
Damn Dude! You're a legit reactor! You're so damn talented yourself but so humble and down to earth.
Keep rocking young man. Stay safe!
👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much! That’s really kind of you to say!
Playing all instruments parts ! Awesomely Great!
Thank you!
Well another great video.....you remind me of Ian and Vinnie as living proof that you can be a great drummer/musician and also be a solid down to earth dude.....really enjoyed your cover as well....Yoyo has incredible kick pedal, but it is the space she leaves and her dynamic range that are mind blowing for her age 👏👏👏👍🏻😎
That’s so kind of you to say! Thank you. And I agree. She’s a lot better at restraint than I am! 😅
@@WavePotter 😂no need to rub the self-depreciation in.....you’re a great musician and your videos are very enjoyable and we appreciate the effort you put in to learn the song 👏👏👏🥂
All I can say is „Bravo!” You have a new subscriber from Romania. Keep up the good work, dude!
I've been playing 47 years... this stuff, and I dare say she beside or in front of me... giv3n her age, and seeing her future... yup... she's hi level!!!!
Every child born has something special. Your child, my child, their child, is special. It is up to each and every one of us, as parents and guardians of these wonderful little lives, to
Yoyoka is so good that she has inspired a UA-cam reaction channel for her videos.
Awesome job yourself on all of the instruments
Thank you so much Neal!
React to her Murder by Numbers cover. Would like to hear your take on her performance. Thanks
You are just all around talented aren't you! Great video, thanks
great reaction and performance, one remark though on the yoyoka fill.
i don't think she played it wrong, she just did a different rendition of it cause of the lack of congas(or whatever the little toms are called) on her drumset. I've seen all her videos, and never seen her use-have them on any songs.
Also she likes to improvise alot on her covers and add up to them her own style(Peter Gabriel's "steam" cover is a good example).
Ofcourse N.Peart had a huge drumset with possibly every available percussive sound on it(even electronic pads). Yoyoka has a pretty basic drumset(even though a high quality one), and will surely add up to it in the years to come.
Just got back from watching her play this in Sunnyvale, CA. Also a jazz fusion tribute to Jeff Beck. GREAT!
That’s awesome! Was that your first time hearing her?
Even if you don’t react to it go what her do Burn by Deep Purple. She killed it. Like your cover. That bass line is tough.
Well done, man. Excellent critique and performance. You just gained a new subscriber, along with all the wealth and acclaim that come with it. Keep up the good work!
I appreciate it! Thank you!
Kudos on featuring Yoyoka....a truly magnetic drummer. Yours got better as you loosened up. She has that charisma and flourish...that is a bit like Keith Moon...just in love with the drums and playing as it is happening. And your humility after all your years of playing is admirable.
I totally agree! She’s got a charisma that’s hard to find in drummers and way more rare than technical skill.
Hell Yeah!!
Great performance Man!!
Thank you!
Came to watch your review out of genuine love for Yoyoka. Very surprised to see you nail the song on guitar, bass and drums. You're a badass, dude! Oh, and Yoyoka RULES!!!!
Yeah she does! But thank you! That’s very kind of you to say. ☺️
Yoyoka at 8 covers three of the best recognized drummers...ever! (Peart RIP, Bonham, Copeland, and Porcora) Love your critiques. Not too technical and with timely explanations. Any critiques of DMB's Beauford? Comments on open hand? Thanks!
Like another person said in the comments definitely under sold your own abilities. Excellent
BRAVO my friend!
That was awesome!
👏👏👏👏👏
SUBSCRIBED!
💥💯🖤🥁🎼🤘
RIP Neil Peart
Thank you so much!
She is self-taught, can't read notes and does her covers by listening to the songs and remembering. She has recently taken up lessons though, and she has been playing the drums since she was 3. There's a video on her channel in which she demonstrates how she goes about doing a cover.
Very interesting! I’ll have to find that!
Really insightful commentary. Also, you really killed it on all three instruments, but especially drums. Not a big Rush fan, but I really appreciate this tune from a technical aspect. And your snare sound really cracks.
I really appreciate that. Thank you!
This is for your entertainment only, not to get you to do a reaction. You should check out Yoyoka's "Stray Cats - Rock This Town / Cover by Yoyoka Soma , 8 year old." She is standing the whole time, and jumping up and down while she is drumming. Her left foot leaves the ground and her right foot never misses a beat on the kick pedal. One of her most playful exhibitions. What a talented girl!
ua-cam.com/video/Q8X-JAJ7CBw/v-deo.html
Wow! I second that. Such a talented kid! It’s insane. This is really fun to watch! Just makes me happy! 😄
@@WavePotter And I second that. Watch it every time I need a little perk!
A true Yoyoka worthy performance wave!
Thank you Dragon Phly! I appreciate that!
Greatness all around!
🤘🤩👍
Thank you for watching!
You are a awesome drummer...
More recently, Yoyoka did Deep Purple’s Burn. It resulted in an invitation from Ian Paice to play with him online.
You can play. I think you’re selling yourself a bit short.
And that’s before I noticed you were playing the other two parts off to the left. I wasn’t familiar with you; you’re way more serious than you let on.
I just may be working on a video about her Burn cover... 😊
Man, I love your reactions videos!
Thank you!
She's INCREDIBLE
Ok I was Totally Not expecting you to Play anything & Definitely all Parts
Definitely worth a Sub
Excellent Bass Playing Getty would Be Proud & Spot on On The Drums & their Tone especially your snare sounds Great

Impressive playing all three parts wow!
Was not planning on it but you deserve a sub.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. :)
You are so talented. This is a great reaction video and I can't wait to watch more. Def a sub & like. Rock on, dude.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
You should check out her cover of good Times bad Times
I’m planning on it! Thank you for the suggestion!
Do yourself a favor and check out her Deep Purple - Burn cover. Ian Paice was nearly speechless in his reaction. She keeps getting better and better.
@
amazing cover !!!
4:52 "Not exactly what Neil played but...." I'm glad you brought this up. I'm not a musician let alone a drummer. That being said, the part that you said that about...she had no way of playing that part the way Neil did because she doesn't have a tenth of the kit that Mr. Peart uses. That that being said, I'm so confused as to how this is the only glaring instance of 'she's not playing the whole thing' that I've seen. Her drum kit is miniscule!!! How can she do a near perfect cover of Deep Purple - Burn on that tiny kit? I'm so confused!!! Anybody????
holy snappin' arseholes (Canadian speak) that was great! You are the master of under sell.
😂 that one got me good! Thank you!
Yoyoka got her start when she was 4 years old n her dads drum set. I don't think she's ever had a drum lesson. she just loves to play and it shows.
she has had some lessons but wildly enough, she has her own set of lessons for drummers. which is far, far more out of this world !!!
Impressive cover.
Thank you!
DUDE! You're good too!
Thank you! ☺️ I appreciate it.
Well, you sure know your way round that drum. And guitar. And bass (at which I wish I was even half as good).
I do my best! Keep playing bass and you’ll be better than me someday! 😂
Yeah Yeah Yoyoka is a force, but have to say dude you definitely under sold your abilities. Very cool.
Thank you so much Craig!
Keep Rockin
And Yoyoka did it all with about a quarter of the drums Neil Peart needs....
AND YOU PLAY BASS & GUITAR??? WOW!
..and Yoyoka challenges the great Neal Peart...damn.!!
Came back to add you should check out Junna. She has so much energy and she is awesome.
Dude!
Well done! Yoyoka certainly does have some talent. Your rendition was also great and your performance on both guitar and bass demonstrates some really skillful playing. Much respect. One comment on the recording; on Yoyoka's version, the mics seem really close on the mix but in your case, it seems distant as if from a camera recording microphone. Again, thanks! Mark
Thanks for the tip! I may have overdone it on the compression and reverb 😋
I’m sure you’ve watched her cover of rage against the machine’ ‘Bulls on Parade”.
I haven't but i will now!
@@WavePotter waiting for the reaction. Also, watch her do Guerilla Radio and most especially her doing Killing in the Name Of with her MOTHER
@@diosdadonon1179 Killing in the name of was badass, mom on vocals and aunty on bass (who nailed it) and the dude on guitar absolutely killed it.
@@diosdadonon1179 I’m really excited to check out Killing in the Name Of... that’s one of my all time favorite guitar riffs and I had no idea her mom and aunt play too! Sounds awesome!
@@WavePotter I think the whole family is at it. I'm reading up on what adoption procedures are like in Japan :D
Have you ever heard Kanade Sato, Senri Kawaguchi, Lisa-X, D'camild Band ? They started to practice since their 3 years old.
I’ll definitely need to check that out!
So nice!!
SHE TURNED 11 IN OCTOBER
Great job, dude.
Thank you!
You crack me up, you're great!! Are you ready? Put in "MIUMIU" and Hotel California. Look for the Hotel California with the screen sectioned in boxes!! She has the silver award from UA-cam and she teaches drum lessons. Oh, I forgot to tell you, she's 6 years old!! 6 in the video now 7 years old. Some of my favorite drummers. By the way, thank you for looking human, by that I mean these drummers in rock bands are grizzly looking. Well take a beat from a different drum, where have I heard that before? Now, these guys are great but, there are others like, "JUNNA covers canon rock she is Japanese and has been classed as the most energetic female drummer in the world. Beautiful eye candy is "A-YEON" she's Korean, check Eye of the Tiger!! Then another Korean is "AMI KIM" hard rock. Anything by her. I'm going to give you more of my superstars. Kanade Sato, Maytel Cohen, Amira Sayahira, and a couple of Taipei, Taiwan licensed street drummers.
Her street name is "VELA BLUE" name is (CHEN MANQUIG) and her street name is "S. WHITE" name is (LUO XIAOBAI) Oh yes already know Yoyoka. I love the way she bounces around while playing. I enjoy all this because I love music but can't sing or play a note. That is why it is so precious to me!! Check them out. Of course I know many more too.
Hey, pretty impressive cover you did of this song yourself.
この子は天才だね。
わたしもここまでは叩けない
Great job man! The cover and the reaction... Yoyoka is great, I've watched over 100 of her videos. That being said, I have one other favorite that you might not be aware of. Another Japanese Drummer Girl. She might be the most ENTERTAINING drummer in the world! More energy than anyone I've ever seen, and her facial expressions are something you have never seen the likes of in a drummer. She hits the drums like they owe her money. An absolute beast, and all around awesome drummer. Guarantee you will get chills watching her! Her name is JUNNA. About 21-23 years old, looks 13, and usually wears some kind of cosplayish costume. Check her out. Thanks again!
ua-cam.com/video/rBPjoNzvqcE/v-deo.html
Thank you so much again Glen! And based on what you said, I'm sold. I'll definitely be making a Junna video soon!
Not too shabby!
Great video..
I always enjoy her performances, but damn, yours seemed pretty kick ass to this guitarist.
Thank you for letting me know!
Great reaction! Yoyoka is indeed not only incredibly skilfull, she's also fun to watch. Since you are a drummer you should also check out Senri Kawaguchi. She is an amazing young, internationaly praised Jazz and fusion drummer (also from Japan).
Senri is fantastic for Jazz/Fusion but hardly a kid - she's an adult. Same age the Beatles were conquering the world - 23. But point taken - I'd like to see Wave play Senri's fusion !!! 🥁
Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely have to check that out!
@@cuda426hemi and I would love to react to many other drummers that aren’t kids! I’ll definitely look into that!
@@cuda426hemi Yes, Senri is not a kid anymore but she already played drums on a very high level at the age of 12. She then made her first dvd (!) under the title 'Horoscope'. It was done in collaboration with profesional musicians. It's mindblowing to see the technical ability and timing she already had at that age. There is a video of her performing the piece on UA-cam. Worthwhile to check out.
Watch her play Rosanna. She’s a shufflin’ ghost note Queen!
pz
is it possible she doesn't play every part exactly like NP because she doesn't have a massive NP kit? yoyoka has more of a john bonham kit =)
Just subscribed to your Channel!! You did an amazing job yourself!! I loveeee the drums my favorite instrument and classic rock!! What do you think is the most difficult song to play with the drums?? Any Led Zeppelin songs?? Thanks have an awesome New Year!!!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that. I’d say anything that Marco Minnemann plays drums on is mind blowingly difficult to me, but it’s funny you mention Led Zeppelin! I just may be working on a John Bonham related video right now. 😄
@@WavePotter My two all time favorite Led Zeppelin songs are In the Light and Since I been Loving You!! But God Bless Neil Peart!! The best of the best💞
complimenti sei molto bravo. mi sono iscritto.
It's not surprising she doesn't play the exact same fills as Neil - look at the difference between the kits!
I would love to be as competent as you are on you video production abilities.
If only young Wave knew what was to come... :)
Lost the chat...IMO Smoky Was the first song where she was undeniably a TRUE PROFESSIONAL (Age 7!)
Yoyoka is phenominal. That's just it, she's a phenom, a natural, gifted in ways God doesn't see fit to bestow on everyone. As wonderful as she is to watch, & she is wonderful, how relaxed she is when she plays, how enraptured she can be, you shouldn't compare yourself to her and feel bad for your skill level. You play guitar, you play bass, so do I. Drums... that's another matter. To get four quadrants of your body moving in different rhythms simultaneously, that takes tremendous skill. NEVER minimize your own abilities. If you aren't THE BEST IN THE WORLD there's always someone better. Rock on.
Well said! That’s a good thing to remember. Thank you!
Who was it that said that the year 2020 didn't offer anything? 😃😃😃
