However, He soon realizes that every time he collects money this way, a sum of the exact amount is involved in tragedies such a robbery to an armored van, in which the guards driving the vehicle gets killed; the money an old lady couldn't scrape together to pay off her rent, which ultimately leads to her suicide, etc.). Honestly if someone only used cards then this would be a pretty cool stand to have. All the drawbacks go away when the money is in a bank somewhere and accessed via card.
I have to wonder if being unable to spend the money is a result of the curse or just the people of Morioh not wanting to get passed the curse. Like, if Joshu went to another city or country and tried to spend the money, would he still get it handed back?
As a huge fan of Joshu, I absolutely loved the Milagro Man arc. Shame that Joshu didn't get any more solo fights, although I don't think that most fans are complaining about that...
Interesting how the Stand really does seem inspired by the context of the song. I really want to think the story of the arms dealer is Araki's intentional effort to try to understand, process, and represent the uniquely Western true story of the televangelist. Though, I wonder about the use of "Milagro" here. Maybe just a conflation of protestants and catholics in the US from an Eastern point of view? The idea of wealth representing god's favor goes further back in catholocism than with protestants or evangelicals. However, a loose understanding of historical christendom might lead one to see a pattern of the idea spreading from Europe to South America and upwards.
