You should finish his dream and do a 50 states road trip with Toyota as a sponsor and make a documentary on it. Big promotion for Toyota and TLC. Lots of national parks. Pleaseeee
It seems to me that you should keep this one Johnathan for a reference for future restorations. Like you said everything including the proper placement of the stickers and the correct stickers are on this example. To many reasons to keep this one as a reference to get rid of it in my opinion.
Whoever buys this should continue the dream that brought the truck to be. Take it to every state and park and keep the story going. It wouldn't be fitting to let it sit and have the story end there, unfulfilled.
amazing truck - in 2000 a similar thing happened to me, mine is a 1983 LX type got it with 25000km company km, the owner purchased it in 1983 drove it for a year and passed away, his children did not want it, so they sold it to me and i still have it , the condition is super pristine
Brings back memories. In late 1978 I worked at the GMC/Toyota Dealership in Lander, Wyoming as a salesman . I only remember selling one FJ40 and it went to a Doctor. Great looking truck and what a find.
Strange that it came back to you. Did the person who bought it from you last time even come get it the first time? I figured you would have a line of clients lined up to buy this thing. Anyway thanks for sharing it again, and thanks for driving it!
I worked at Toyota as a technician from 1973 until 1980. I can tell you and most likely pop some bubbles that these were not the vehicle everyone assumed. They were from the beginning junk. We had many engine failures, transmission failures along with clutches, transfer case failures. These had a cult following then as well as now. Toyota tried to beat out the Jeep but in no way ever built them to match Jeep quality and longevity.
Thanks for the input. I like the dependability of Honda and Toyota. I plan on living in the mountains of NC or TN and need RELIABILITY AND RUGGEDNESS. No bells and whistles except for luggage racks, gas can, spare tire. What year would you recommend where the top quality came about for Toyota. Simple 4 speed manual. Something old school look but reliability. Thanks. Mike
Jonathan, this video is not helping with my obsession with FJ40's right now. Amazing example. It must be pretty special to see it in person. Is there somewhere that I can see a detailed gallery of the car even though this video is old now?
Pretty good metaphor for not putting your dreams in a box in your warehouse for when you retire. I admire the man putting a beautiful car away, but he should have just done the road trip...
I guess Jonathan isn't any kind of collector huh? I've seen firsthand someone has a passion for something, then made that passion their career, then the passion they had changed. I wonder if this happened or that vehicles just don't matter that much except to fix up and sell??? car to share Jonathan? why not keep it for reference at TLC???
Thomas Welcomer go watch the latest episode of Watch and Listen with Matt Farah and Mr. Ward, then come back and see if you still think he's not a collector.
Carcaine I meant cars that were significant to his business. not watches. He doesn't seem to place too much value on them other than selling... He DID say about one vehicle reviewed he WISHED he could AFFORD to buy it. I thought THAT was odd in that I'm sure he does ok.
Jonathan Ward thanx for the clarification. The way you spoke of it, makes it seem it would have a use. Even if its only a "before" example... Any thoughts of doing a Bronco pickup????

What a privilege it must have been to drive this gem! It was a privilege to hear and see it run. Thanks!
I like the new filming. 😃👍
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing the story. It's a stunning FJ40 😍
What an amazing story! It should be in a book or a magazine. Thank you for sharing this!
It's surprisingly quiet in that thing too, the engine sound is great

I really dig the way you filmed this Jon, perfect FJ40.. Would love to see more footage on this obviously.. This reminded me of a petrolicious video.

Jonathan Ward I concur, might be time for your own Petrolicious styled channel
Hope a museum picks it up. Pristine ! Feels like a time machine the way you guys shot it, great job 👍🏻
Buenísimo la originalidad, que tipo de carburador le instalaron ???
For a collector it would be great, but I use my 40 every day and camp with it in Death Valley, and Moab. Thanks
What a great story, on the Toyota! Thanks for the posting!
Outstanding FJ, great story, I can tell you really love it like the rest of us fanatics would! Wow, what a trip back in time. 👍
Your cinematography is exceptional! Wish you had more views on this
Quit getting my FJ dirty! You could have at least invited me. Brutha gotta dream from time to time...
What a story.

Anyway thanks for sharing it again, and thanks for driving it!
Jonathan Ward oh nice, my mistake. I thought I remembered you posting it last fall. Either way, loved seeing it again!
Thanks for sharing this video, interesting and informative.
Brilliant story. The fj landcruiser was amazing but if you spilt a glass of water on them they would rust.
I doubt you could find a Unimog that nice!

Thank you for posting this!
I am telling you now in Australia FJ40's are a fucking gold mine. And in Japan, they are realizing this now as well big time guys.
Jonathan, I hope you took 100's of pictures of this FJ, to provide archival reference for future restorations.
This is cool, but Im looking forward to seeing the 1965 Jeep® Kaiser Wagoneer!
Finish the dream.
Beautiful cruiser!!!!!!

It's even the color I want. Sigh.
Pretty good metaphor for not putting your dreams in a box in your warehouse for when you retire. I admire the man putting a beautiful car away, but he should have just done the road trip...
Surprised you sold it the first time or a second time....
