I always found this movie funny growing up and I still do now. And that part where Ramsley is taken down to hell is honestly an interesting twist. When you think about it, evil spirits in other movies tend to terrorize the main protagonists and kill the innocent people. Instead, they go after the villain who earned his spot in hell for what he did.
I think the evil spirits were unrelated to that fire elemental. The curse was broken when the truth was revealed and everyone would go to their afterlives, so the elemental was not summoned by Ramsley. It was sent from hell to collect him.
The story they put of Master Gracey’s lost love always interested me. I wish the movie had been more about that or the origin stories of the other 998 ghosts in the mansion.

By contrast, this film went out of its way to cram in as much of the Mansion visuals as they could, hoping the audience would transfer its love for the source material to this movie. It didn't work.

I see a lot of potential in this i always found the story with the love affair, the poison, the butler all very charming, though i do admit i found this funny and still do today but with more cringe,
he’s just one of those people that are easy to hate like hitler and justin bieber. do people make them look more hateable than they should be yes but most people don’t like both... also people tend to judge celebrities off their social lives so murphy must of done something as hate-able as what bieber or hitler did. i for one don’t care for his social life what he does behind the camera is his own business as long as it’s not on the news... or written in history books i don’t nor should anyone care what celebrities do in their social life.
BB1 115 I don’t think it’s hate - I think people see his career as disappointing. He went from an excellent stand up comic to a so-so actor picking terrible projects

I actually liked the scene with the singing busts. I didn't find it funny but I can at least appreciate that it featured the Dapper Dans of Disneyland. I could listen to them sing all day.
8:30 Doug wasn’t wrong with that transition. It originally was supposed to lead into a flashback. That opening sequence with the party and the deaths of Elizabeth and Edward was actually supposed to be shown over a narration by Edward as Sara is told the story.
Banana Person I think that was canceled years ago. Del Toro, who was set to write and direct, then took some of his ideas for the movies and made Crimson Peak.
The Haunted Mansion should’ve been directed by Tim Burton, and only Tim Burton. So far he’s been known to make dark, whimsical stories to life. Just because he would’ve casted Johnny Depp and all the other reoccurring actors, the movie would’ve still been good. The husband in the beginning of the movie who claims they want a divorce, he comes off as a real dick and a person I always wanted to just give him lights out with an overdose of sleeping medicine. Edit: At scene 4:27 I kept expecting to see Count Olaf burst into the room, and yell in a gritty voice, saying: “Where’s my fortune, Baudelaire orphans? I want my ENORMOUS fortune! And you will give it to me now!”
As much as I loved the show, Hollywood whores out everything and ruins it 80% o' the time. I'd lose all hope in movies if I lost that part of my childhood
Thank you for saying everything I thought about this and more. I love the Haunted Mansion ride, but this movie, it was just wrong. If ever a movie should have been a Tim Burton movie, it was this one. I'm not saying he might not have botched it also, but it was a more harmonious pairing than Eddie Murphy and this mess. The ride's quirky and darkly funny and so is director Burton, so it might have worked. If he'd replicated the fun and innocence he brought to Beetlejuice, with it's dark but still sweet humor. I would have preferred Burton do this as a comedy with who he might have cast. Than what he did to Dark Shadows, which shouldn't have been done as a comedy in my opinion. What makes it sadder still on both of those movies is that, then they just go on and do something else. It's perhaps one chance to be something memorable and interesting/engaging. And to show the younger generation how cool something originally made in the 60's can be, if done right, is gone. Instead this ride turned live action movie becomes something people try to forget and groan about. Which wouldn't have happened if they'd put real effort into making something of quality and that made sense. It's just a waste all around. Murphy has so obviously been phoning it in for years and not knowing what's truly funny or worth two hours film time devoted to whatever he chooses. I honestly don't think he cares. Sad, because he used to be very funny. Disney is all about the money now and they seem to have lost showing a sense of taste, or knowing what works. But on the only plus side, it does give the Nostalgia Critic more to complain about and make fun of.
Just came from “The Haunted Mansion” (2023) and it was such a great film. Haven’t been on the ride since I was a young lad but I remember certain elements from it and overall the new Haunted Mansion is worth it.

That was the best part of the movie honestly, since that’s the Dapper Dans Cameo.
The scene with the zombies actually was my favorite scene I also enjoyed the scene where they see the ghosts while riding in the carriage
How long did it take for Malcolm to perfect Eddie Murphy's laugh? Cause it was spot on and had me crying laughing 🤣
"You're my world, my life, my cheeseburger everything!"
Lol! Blooper Reel! :)
Yup... For some reason my grandfather had it... Idk.
It Is A Secret it was so funny
IT'S HIS CHEESEBUR-GER, YES HIS CHEESEBUR-GER!

#NoRegrets
The nostalgia critic as General Zod cracks me up every single time
The Owen Wilson joke aged spectacularly.
Doug Walker pulled a Simpsons there 😂
Honestly I think Tim Burton should do an animated take on Haunted Mansion
when I was 9 those skeleton things in the mausoleum were nightmare fuel for me.
Hailey Doodles That weren't nightmare fuel for me as a kid because after I seen them I couldn't even sleep.
They scared the hec out of me.
Yep, I had nightmares for days after that.
oh jeez I Know right I was like 4 years old I was horrified
same here.
I refused to watch it as a kid.
I actualy high fived :(
same here.
and me :(
also me
Me too. We are the 1%!!!!!!
I hi-fived. I've seen that movie where that came from.
I see a lot of potential in this i always found the story with the love affair, the poison, the butler all very charming, though i do admit i found this funny and still do today but with more cringe,
4:37
That’s really eerie how Owen Wilson is literally in the new Haunted Mansion movie
4:37 Did...did Doug predict Owen Wilson in a Haunted Mansion movie 8 years before the new movie? 😳
Why does everyone hate on Eddy Murphy? I... just don't get it.
he’s just one of those people that are easy to hate like hitler and justin bieber.
do people make them look more hateable than they should be yes but most people don’t like both...
also people tend to judge celebrities off their social lives so murphy must of done something as hate-able as what bieber or hitler did.
i for one don’t care for his social life what he does behind the camera is his own business as long as it’s not on the news... or written in history books i don’t nor should anyone care what celebrities do in their social life.
I don't hate him. He's made good movies. But this wasn't one of them. And as a fan of the ride, this wasn't even right for him.
Nobody hated him...in the 80s and somewhat in the 90s. It’s the 2000s that left us asking what happened.
BB1 115 I don’t think it’s hate - I think people see his career as disappointing. He went from an excellent stand up comic to a so-so actor picking terrible projects
I like him but it seems like he plays the same damn character every movie. Though I guess that’s more his agent’s fault than his own.
Kanye as Goliath..... Kill me.
This was directed by Rob Minkoff, the guy who directed the first two Stuart Little movies and co-directed The Lion King.
.........
Nick Copeland He also directed 2014's "Mr. Peabody and Sherman".
And it still sucks
There were 2 Stuart Little movies? I only remember there being 1.
@@ryanelliott1907 There are three, but Rob Minkoff only directed the first two.
My favorite parts!!!
5:16 I'm hunting wabbits hahahahahahaha
10:39 I'm trying to out tucker Chris tucker!!!!!!!!
15:13 channel awesome take on the singing heads.
18:52 howling dog = accent.
19:03 shacoona trucking mcoydies a-hole!!
I just wanna leave this comment and say nostalgia critic predicted owen wilson in a haunted mansion movie
The location where they filmed this movie isn't far from where I live. Even thought this movie wasn't that great, I'm still interested in giving this place a look.
really? where is it?
alma zoe Sable Ranch, located in Santa Clarita, Ca.
I actually liked the scene with the singing busts. I didn't find it funny but I can at least appreciate that it featured the Dapper Dans of Disneyland. I could listen to them sing all day.
Those aren't the dapper dans, they are either the Phantom 5 of Disneyland and Disneyworld or the Sinister 6 of Disneyland Paris...
In no way am I defending this movie, but I had a Houdini poster in my room as a kid and teen.
4:39 Hilarious that Owen Wilson is going to be in the 2023 reboot.
WOW
8:30 Doug wasn’t wrong with that transition. It originally was supposed to lead into a flashback. That opening sequence with the party and the deaths of Elizabeth and Edward was actually supposed to be shown over a narration by Edward as Sara is told the story.
I died at "we then transition via shit eating grin" and "what a world of maybe a child size hand of possibilities!"
"I am Santahose."
“I am Xanaxtoast.”
I am not necessary
8:48 I absolutely hi-fived the screen. Not because he told me to, but because I also had just said inconceivable.
I felt so obligated to do it, if I fought the urge I felt as if I would have died.
I knew the inconceivable lime was coming! Lol!
18:47 - 18:57 LMAO and you thought that the priest from Jack and the Beanstalk singing "Are you happyyyyyy?!" was funny.
He really predicted Owen Wilson in the haunted mansion remake
That Gargoyles trailer was so awesome. But I hope it never happens in real life. 😆
I heard that they’re gonna make another Haunted Mansion Movie and I hope that this one will be more creepy
If Tim Burton directed Madame Leota would have been played by Helena Bonham Carter. That would have been cool.
4:39 Ironically, Owen Wilson is starring in the new 2023 Haunted Mansion.
Honestly general Zod and Murphy are actually friends. They've done 3 movies together and recommended each other 2 times.
What an odd couple.
I was just 'bout ready to go batshit when they said they're makin' a Gargoyles movie 'til I thankfully realized that it was a joke.
there have been talks to do a live action Gargoyles movie but it's in development hell now
As much as I loved the show, Hollywood whores out everything and ruins it 80% o' the time. I'd lose all hope in movies if I lost that part of my childhood
...Harry Potter was an _adaptation_, not a remake, but we know what you meant.
The same director who adapted Harry Potter adapted Percy Jackson. It was awful, and I lost any faith I had in him.
i high fived the screen...
same
I think everyone did, because I did too.
didn't we all
Yeah
We all did
Why critic didn't review "haunted mansion" on "nostalgia-ween" ?
is it scary? no.
Why is your Eddie Murphy impression so spot on! Lol!!
I high fived the screen just as you said you would be concerned if I did.
lmao. I was seconds from doing it myself
+Rashad Almomani i did it..... no regrets
I also did it...
Yep. Same.
I was about to do it but immediately stopped when he said "I would be concerned about you"
8:52 lol I actually did it the first time. (and now again :P )
How concerning! :)
+KrossoverGod I did this too , months ago
+KrossoverGod me too and i was fucking laughing my ass off xD
Me too
+KrossoverGod Me too, it was very worthy of a high five
Just came from “The Haunted Mansion” (2023) and it was such a great film.
Haven’t been on the ride since I was a young lad but I remember certain elements from it and overall the new Haunted Mansion is worth it.
Yes, of course.😄😄😄
This movie was such an opportunity lost. I want to see the Haunted Mansion as a Gothic horror epic so scary you can't ever watch it at night.
That Gargoyles advert was an epic burn. 🔥🔥
14:38 I stepped in a 40s cartoon sound effect! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Every time I see scenes like at 16:15 I just think about thats scene from Scary Movie 2 where Brenda basically thinks Cindy is stupid for running away from a skeleton. Like seriously just kick them, their nothing but bones.
Agreed. It's also one of the funniest scenes in the whole franchise. Right next to that guy cocking a friggin _shovel_ .
Question: Is the Singing bust at 14:56 supposed to be Walt Disney?
I liked that part of the movie
One of the busts on the ride was.
If you'd like some perspective, Thurl Ravenscroft (the bust) also voiced Tony the Tiger, of "They're Greeeaaat!" fame.
I love the "Damn, I love my job" look he gives the camera at 23:24
8:59 I really hi-fived my computer screen, just like that guy on the Discover card commercial.
I did! I totally did!
Edward: “Do you believe in ghosts”?
Mabel: “I believe you’re a big dork”.
