I loved this whole dialogue - the interviewer, the interviewed (both human and spiritual), the character and topic intersected, the lessons learned, the fun of the interchange, and the joy of exploration and discovery. Thank you for a most wonderful and delightful exchange.
There may very well be more coming! In the meantime there's a few others like this - the Dale Martin interviews & my political apocalyptism solo episode for instance.
This was superb. Please do Leviticus Part 2 with Joel Baden, and now that the Liane M. Feldman book is out, would also be great as an interview!@@politicalphilosophypodcast3416
I never thought I'd be convinced by anyone that Leviticus could be interesting to read, a book that I always believed was the Bible's 800 pound cure for insomnia. Joel Baden has achieved the impossible LOL. Hopefully the two of you can get together again and deal with the 2nd half of Leviticus. Well done to all concerned.
Thank you! So happy I stumbled upon this interview. The "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" maxim makes so much sense now. Dr Baden has kindled my interest in Leviticus! Would love to see another lecture from him dealing with the second half of Leviticus.
Can't wait for Liane M. Feldman's book on P as well as Dr Baden on Leviticus. Great questions here and thanks. Because of the pandemic I have gotten to 'meet' these excellent scholars on Zoom. One really gets to see them at work and it feels like you get to know them.
I know Joel's work over quite a period of time, but the host's questions are fascinating. However, I can find no name or biographic details, academic field or anything else on the channel. Can you help with this, you have made me curious about rather a lot of topics mentioned in passing.
I think that the Joseph story, could be used as an example of using the Bible to reinforce liberal views ( he said there weren't many that he could think of). Because Joseph, was essentially a socialist in the way he made a plan whereby the government ended up with all the money and all the land etc, and then "took care of" the people
This is pure paganism. When the Bible was written, the world was flat, the sun circled the earth, heaven was up, where God lived, and hell was dark where Satan and the Devil lived. Paganism is priest, temple, sacrifice. Whether there is one god or many gods.

Fascinating stuff. I'd love more episodes like this, exploring the philosophy behind religious political systems.

Found this just searching for Dr Baden. Thanks for doing this!
Same!

Out now! would be a PERFECT excuse for the Political Philosophy Podcast YT channel to return :)
@@notanemoprog yeah, I had her book on pre-order and the book is always by my side as a resource and as a book to devour. I can't praise it enough.
I'd like to hear Joel Baden talk more the end of year seems to be in love with his own voice

I was hoping he would mention Leviticus 18:21 and what it means.

God really did the speedrun on losing faith in humanity
Balance of the sound unfortunately spoilt the discussion.
Who told you Jews don't study Vayikra?
