I wish you had been my professor back in the day, but I bet you were a student during my days. Very interesting topic. I would have definitely taken this class.

Why does it seem that Irvin Yalom is ignored in discussions of Existential Psychology?

Thanks for sharing! I love the hair. Why hide? Aren't we supposed to embrace our being? Anyway it's nice to have some philosophy class over breakfast!

Hi Dr. Dodson! I can't seem to find any way to contact you. UA-cam does not let me direct message and emails, phone numbers, etc all seem to be dead. I have some questions about the UWG psych. program that I would love guidance on. Pretty much: Is it a good undergraduate program for someone interested in the type of philosophy you teach (Nietzsche, Existentalism, Phenomenology, etc)?

Well, sorry about that, Thinker. I suspect that the University is severing the connections to my email, due to my retirement. Also, a lot of my time these days has been consumed with trying to get a house ready to sell. Anyhow, it's a little hard to comment on the state of UWG's Psychology program these days. The main reason is that it's being restructured pretty severely, mostly due to the financial exigences that arose from the Corona Virus, but also from internal financial pressures that were already there before COVID. As a consequence of that, both I and another senior professor opted to take early retirement. And it turns out that the two of us were fairly heavy hitters in the areas you're mentioning. And because things are in a state of flux right now, it's difficult to say how they'll resolve. The other peculiarity of which you should be aware is that I was actually a professor of *Psychology* -- not Philosophy. It's just that I've always had an avid interest in Philosophy, and in how movements like Existentialism and Phenomenology can inform Psychology's project. However, if you're really interested in those topics from a more purely philosophical point of view, then probably enrolling in a Psychology program isn't such a great strategy. After all, it's relatively rare that psychologists are interested in that sort of thing. Of course, Jordan Peterson would be an obvious and very famous counter-example. But he's more-or-less the exception that proves the general rule, as they say. Anyhow, in addition to the program here at UWG, you might look at the Psychology programs of the University of Dallas, the University of Seattle and Duquesne University (which is where I did M.A. and Ph. D. degrees back in the day). Anyhow, sorry about the spotty communication these days. I hope this helps. Eric D.

@@EricDodsonLectures Thank God that you're teaching on UA-cam now because it would be so sad if all your knowledge stopped getting imparted on thirsty learners like us viewers due to your retirement. I hope you keep teaching on UA-cam! Please do!!!
