I have fished that section of the Truckee many, many times. I am blown away by the number of fish you caught in heavy water. This is water that I am normally walking right by much of the time. Where I would be fishing seams or softer spots, you were pulling them out of the heavy current. Very eye opening and educational for me.
Thanks Bob! A long time ago I sort of trained my eye to pick out those small pockets of softer water right next to the faster water--I have noticed in the past a lot of fishermen walk right by water that looks great to my mind's eye!
Very cool video! It looks beautiful out there! Do you know any good camping spots near the Truckee river that would have good fishing close by? I have a fly pole all spooled up that I have never used. I am a bass fisherman, but I want to try something different this year. Also any technique/fly recommendations? This will be my first time.
Hi Dylan, The Truckee is primarily a nymphing river. You might see a couple of fish rising in the evening here and there. Lots of crayfish--I think as a bass fisherman you would like fishing those patterns like a nymph or like a streamer. Rubbers Legs nymphs in #8-12 and frenchies/pheasant tails in #14-18 will work great. Closest camping is along the river upstream from the town of Truckee, and also in and around Boca Lake. You will want to fish below the town of Truckee for the better fishing.
@@purpledrakefishing Thanks so much. I will give those a try. I'm excited to get out there and catch my first fish on a fly. Also I seen a couple comments regarding your website difficulties. I also received an error when trying to visit your site using your link in the description of this video. Just a heads up. I fixed it by using instead. I have a site as well and I use Wordpress. If you're looking to build your site more I recommend possibly making the switch over to Wordpress. It can be difficult to learn at first, but it really gives you a lot more control over how you build your site. It seems to be the industry standard as most blogs out there are powered by wordpress. If you have any questions about it I would be happy to help.
Very nice video. I've been watching your channel for a while. You nymphing technique is incredible. I thought they say Euro nymphing easily outfish indicator nymphing. But you seem to perform differently. Do you adjust your depth at different section when you fish? I am not fly fishing very long, sometimes have hard time nymphing under indicator. Thanks
Greg Sheu read books. Best way to learn fly fishing. Also don’t follow what everyone else does, find what works for you. Meet some people who knows how to fly fish better then you and learn from them best way to step your game up.
Greg Sheu fly fishing Nevada by Jan nemic you can get it at sportsman’s warehouse. I learn to fish in Nevada from that book and meeting new people. Check out my Instagram @nevadafishing I’m move then happy to give out pointers on anything you have questions about
Thanks Rogue J--Sorry for the delay in responding--a lot of comments were sitting in "held for review" for some reason... This was in the canyon section off of I-80, between Hirshdale and Verdi.
It is a 10' Sage Pulse 3wt. I highly recommend it for nymphing, but it also works well for dry fly fishing. The indicator is the Leland Trout Float (& panfish float, which is a little larger). BY FAR the best indicator out there. It is in the fishing section and not fly fishing section, so most people don't know about it. www.fishusa.com/product/Lelands-E-Z-Trout-Floats?gclid=CjwKCAjwjZjZBRAZEiwAPeLSK0cy-m2A43ex6t5ZljcXm5PV8e-p8mXbD_uYz7AsPZqQYvQ3UXK3oxoC0gUQAvD_BwE
Look around Hirschdale (upstream and down) for road access that gets you closer to the Truckee, otherwise you have a short hike from most parking spots along I-80.
It is in the canyon section, which is between Hirschdale, CA and Verdi, NV. I was in the middle part of it that day. It is good water throughout with no section much better than another.

Such great videos of some of our best rivers. Thanks for taking us with you.
Thanks Ryan!
That was a nice brown!! Enjoyed the new video, all twenty minutes.
Thanks AF--have you been out fishing this season yet, or is the runoff still occurring in Utah?
I haven't had the chance to get out fish yet. The water was still high in some places last month. Hopefully I'll get out to do some fishing soon.
Fantastic. Thanks for posting and sharing your technique and knowledge.
What a day of fishing ,thank you!
Thanks Dave!
what a humble man. just catching monsters like it’s nothing. you’ve obviously been in the fly fishing game a while..
Beautiful brown man!!! That's why we fish the truckee right there
Thanks Jeremiah! Agree--it is fish like that, that make the many slow days on that river worth it.
Yes, no doubt good catch..but he put up a fight like a 13" Bow ,,,,..

Nice video. Great catch & release. What are some regulations fly fisherman should be aware of in this body of water? Thanks.
Thanks FT, it is a special regulations section with barbless hooks.
All artificial and barbless. C&R required in certain stretches.
@@DrewLari Thank you for the info.
Great video! How do u like that pulse?
Thanks Rudy, Love the rod! Highly recommend it.
Just a heads up man, your SSL certificate is bad on your blog site. Nice fishing, I love that area. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Matt--I will take a look. It is a Weebly website, so hopefully that can be resolved quickly.

darinp02 I will check that out. Just follow IG. You are same as @greatest_nevada? Thanks
Greg Sheu no that account uses my pictures I’m a separate account.
what beautiful catches, is the truckee artificial barbless only?
Thanks ED--I think it is for most of the river in California and part of Nevada, but I am not sure on the exact regs.
Hey just wondering, what fly box were you using in the video? I'm talking about the green one towards the beginning.
Hi Hanbin--it is in the link below. They last a long time, good quality:

Love the video, I’m going to go fish mogul tomorrow and wanna try somewhere new on the Truckee where is this at exactly?

@@purpledrakefishing Which makes it in California, so make sure you got a Calif. fishing license.
What rod? I see it's a sage, but what wt and what length.
Also your indicator looks very steady in those fast rapids. Which one is it?

Is this on the NV side or Cali?
CA, though the whole canyon from Hirschdale to Verdi is pretty much the same type of water to fish.
Is the the nevada side or cali side? Or far past Fared?
CA side along I-80. All that water is pretty much the same & good fishing. Just hard to get to and move around in the canyon.
Nice video, did you add any weight on it? Your fly is floating on the water ?
Thanks! Yes, I had BB split shot for weight and the flies were under an indicator.
@@purpledrakefishing right on , watching your video makes me want to try fly fishing someday haha.. Is it good for trout fishing near Tahoe ?
@@LegendarSky8 Yes, there is good fishing near Tahoe. The East & West Carson Rivers and the Truckee as well a lot of nearby mountain lakes.
@@purpledrakefishing thanks! Have you ever caught a golden trout before ?
@@LegendarSky8 Yes, Cottonwood Lakes near Lone Pine a while ago.
do you know any places that have truck access

Nice fish
do you mind telling what part of river is this?
It is in the canyon section, which is between Hirschdale, CA and Verdi, NV. I was in the middle part of it that day. It is good water throughout with no section much better than another.
