Me: okay.
Dude same and it’s working 😂
I guess so. I've been binge watching this shit lmao.
John Mallillin accurate 😂
@@autismpete as a wrestler this brings joy to my heart that you guys are now fans of the sport
hahaha
parents celebrating is always fun to see.
His dad was goin off 😂
haha i know right! you should look up myles martin's freshman title win, his parents go nuts lol its honestly pretty cool lol
The look on his face when he knew he was winning was awesome to see
That was beautiful with that angle and his parents smiling with him.
And that fist pump when he knew he had it
One of the greatest. Moments caught on camera..with his parents jumping in the background..tears
That was awesome shot.
The universe is crazy, VJ stopped a junior from getting his third national title as a freshman and now has been stopped by a freshman from getting his third national title
One of the craziest storylines in that weight class without a doubt.
Funny how athletes can’t get paid but espn can go up to them and interview them to pay there own bills 🤦🏽♂️
Harsh truth
For sure. Should get paid for interviews and sales from your name
What's 4-5 years worth of college tuition, room/board and meals worth?
@@BigBoyWoogie this is wrestling we're talking about. Majority of the team isn't getting full rides
Funny how the NCAA just approved payment/compensation to athletes, chief of which is football and basketball marque programs.
Moment of the tournament for me: Mekhi smiles realizing he will become the champion with his parents hugging in the background.
Congrats to the Lewis family!
Imagine being a junior with two titles and losing to an 8th seed freshman like that
he’s fkn amazing
Read my post
upsets happen daily in tough sports like wrestling, nothing to be ashamed of. Its a lot of pressure to win when you've won 2x which can throw your performance out the window.
😂😂💀
Isaiah Martinez was a junior with two titles when Vincenzo beat him in the finals the first time. I don't remember Vincenzo's seed that year, though I doubt it was that low. The similarity there is still pretty nuts.
Gives me chills every time I see his parents go nuts and the realization on his face that he beat the odds.
I saw Mekhi wrestle at Lehigh in a dual before Nationals, and I told everyone I knew that this kid had a motor and strength like I hadn't seen in years. When he was seeded 8th, I said he is my favorite to win it all. He did. So impressive. Can't wait until he comes back from his Olympic redshirt.
That cradle strength is legit. Sheesh, Ed Ruth like power and 3 more yrs of dominance on deck
There's other wrestlers who perfected the cradle other than Ruth. You comparing both cause they black?
Mitchell Heath lol u mad cause the man said he had power like another bulk wrestler? Y’all always want someone to pay homage to a white guy. Bo don’t have shit to do with this vid or comment. Fuck are u bringing him up for?
Facts bro. He’s gonna dominate. Kid is strong, was shocked to know he was a freshman.
@@DairangerSentai7 I lost brain cells reading your comment
@@richieeyre8326 well drink some CBD water for them to reboot.
One of my favorite scenes in the entire 2019 NCAA wrestling championships was when Mekhi locked up that cradle. You saw him position his hands to do it, his coaches saw him do it, and the crowd definitely recognized him do it as it roared the second he got in position to lock his hands and drive through. His coach also went insane when he got that lock, “hit it, move move, you got it, YOU GOT IT.” You could tell Mekhi regardless of him wrestling aggressive or not, he was not afraid to take risks obviously seeing as he cradled the 2x NCAA champion
Imar punching the air rn
This shit is so exciting it gives me butterflies like I'm out there with them. The Mark Hall and Jason Nolf match had me jumping around twitching, accidentally knocked my TV off the dresser and PS4 on the ground. Damn I love this sport. Congrats to you big man
I wish I felt that way when I watch wrestling matches
Never seen Joseph fold like that
like literally in half to his back via cradle. Ya he folded alright
@@tropicalterrarium1742 NJ wrestling dominates. 5 NJ Wrestlers Win NCAAS.
He got fat
Jesus is Fake don’t be a loser man NJ and philly wrestler are the best
Jesus is Fake no
He has a heart. Incredible in many ways. Congrats, keep on dominating.
7:34 the camera man that got this shot needs a raise
Congratulations to Lewis, his family, and VT.
Joseph showed as always tremendous class. A credit to his parents, himself, and Penn State.
This makes me so happy! The realest sport! Congrats, Mekhi! I know I'm late to the party, but you earned that!
When those hands lock up for the cradle boom baby !!! Miss wrestling man
Me too wrestling was my life
@Ian Pattonok man
I enjoyed this match so much. Not only an under dog, but quick re-shots and strong defense
7:32 that fist pump
Yea that was a cool moment
People hate on Penn state a lot, but they really do have some of the most polite wrestlers. I mean, at the end of this match Cenzo respectfully stood at the center of the mat while Lewis did his celebrations, then gave a nice hand shake and what looks like a congrats and jogged off the mat. Good stuff
It looked like Mak over powered Joseph by a good amount. Great smart wrestling. Congratulations to Mak on his championship.
and mak was named the 2019 NCAAs Most Outstanding Wrestler
If this man pulls a myles martin I’ll actually be so sad
i agree with what you are saying, but myles is a great champion. as is lewis.
Don’t get me wrong they’re great fucking wrestlers but what happened to Myles was down right tragic
ColaCocaMan dude honestly I was so happy seein him win I don’t wanna see him fold like Martin
@@drippygxd2593 how did martin fold? fuck you talkin bout? big cap on you
@@ColaCocaMan nothing tragic at all he has had an amazing journey in wrestling. to suggest otherwise shows lack of understanding for the nature of the sport.
Someone explain wrestling and the points to me. First match of this sport ive ever seen in my life.
Adrian Baez 2 points for taking someone down 1 point for standing up if you get someone on their back or near like he did with the cradle you get an automatic amount of Point plus a max of 5 depending on how long u hold it if u stay on top for over a minute u get a point at the end of the match and if u get two stalling warnings your opponent gets a point it’s more complex than that put that’s some basic understanding
That's close, but you can't get 5 for nearfall.
Taking someone down = 2
Escaping when someone is on top of you = 1
Reversal (when someone is on top of you and turn it around so you are on top) = 2
Nearfall (Holding someone on their back) = 2 if held for a 2-3 count, 4 if held for 4 count or longer. Those are the main scores, anyways.
In this match, Lewis was on top at the beginning of the second period and locked up a cradle and held Joseph on his back for 4+ count so he received 4 pts. (if he would have gotten both of Joseph's shoulders on the mat for 1 full second, it would be a pin). Joseph then escaped for 1 pt. Score 4-1 at the end of the 2nd period.
In the third period, Lewis was on bottom and escaped for 1 pt. and then scored a takedown at the end for 2 more. Final score 7-1.
Welcome to the most ancient and honorable of sports.
The folks below did a very good job explaining.
Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Folkstyle all have differences and I encourage you to look at all Highschool, NCAA, USA Wrestling and World Championships matches.
This sport is the way people have tested combat skill, settled personal differences, learned respect and showed fellowship and I am excited that you are watching.
Enjoy.
You could have just searched it on UA-cam
@@iamalpharius9483 Im not into wrestling, this is the first match I have seen (do you say fight, game or match?), but I wanted to say that the match was beautiful and so was your welcoming. We need more people like you on YT and online Indiana Jones :D
Mekhi lewis is like a legend to me.
This guy is promising
Always glad to see a young athlete like him win
This was my favorite match of the tournament
Joseph looks like a straight glazed donut 😂
I like both wrestlers but if I was the winner, the FIRST person I would hug and talk to would be my opponent.
Congratulations Makhi. New Jersey NJISAA STRONG!!!
Indiana Jones nah, fuck your opponent
Amazing performance by Mekhi. Awesome to watch.
This is a beautiful moment, when you may not be the favorite but you compete anyway. Never give up on your goals. Congrats to Mekhi Lewis, his family and VT
Crazy!
Joseph beat Imar to win his first national title (stopped Imar’s third straight).
Lewis beats Joseph to return the favor.
true freshman.. dude gonna be a problem.
Mitchell Heath you said that like it changes anything about what was said. He was a true freshman and he’s gonna be a problem when he returns from the Olympic trials. Simple.
Gotta be a good kid (young man) and a great family raised him! Hokie proud!
Lewis is unreal. I really hope he makes a HUGE mark on the sport.
Congrats Mekhi ! And Vincenzo is Great wrestler too !!
Such a genuine guy he is and his parents Are so fucking proud as well well done Champ
Gives me goosebumps every time! One of my favorite matches of all time
Same here
One of my fav wrestlers 💪🏽💯
What’s the song playing after Lewis won?
that kids gonna have a gold medal. I want to train him in MMA so bad.
I went to multiple camps coached by Air Frayer years ago! Glad to see he is still having great success at VT! Great match!
That was Awesome congratulations!!!
Fav upset of all time
No one was beating Lewis on this day. V.J. was in on some many deep shots. Pure strength and will by Lewis. Wow.
How’d you get the cradle?
I put his head to his knee and got it
Wow... what tournament for Lewis!! One bad Jersey Brothaman.
Awesome young brother rumble young man rumble!
Awesome match! Dang that cradle was smooth.....
Purple sweatshirt guy behind his parents was denied 2 hi fives in ten seconds. Dudes Down bad
The end of this video is epic
It's amazes me how fast NJ became one of the best wrestling states. They had 4 champions this tournament and at least one other finalist -- Joey Mckenna.
This kid has got something special!
Mad respect to that kid
Great performance by Mekhi Lewis.
this guy is the next Burroughs
gonna be a killer for years to come and he's only gonna get better, plus notice how the most elite neutral wrestlers in the world are all mainly counter-shooters.
that Hokie is strong af
This was a great match. Respect to both kids. Respect to NJ. Wake up New York and hit the mats.
Love this!!!
Great win :)
I think my skills could give him REAL trouble. I mean, I've been seriously studying Tai Chi for almost a year and my confidence has gone through the roof!
Seriously. I'm like, really speedy and got some twitch reflexes that would have greatly assisted Jospeh.
@@moonfive9065 I hope this is a joke but I cant tell
Okay buddy
Tai Chi, Tai Chi, you cannot catch me. Speed kills, dropping microphone now!
Great match
Wish my parents came to watch me win... 😪
Awesome!
He sounds like a stand up kid from the post match interview
if you don't get chills from this your not a true wrestling fan
Got nothing but satisfaction watching Vincenzo loosing, great job to Lewis
i remember my district finals lol. i was up 9-4 and i got put in a far leg cradle if it werent for the time i wouldve gotten pinned lol
Why does UA-cam keep recommending me psu losses?!
Lewis looking real strong
Love the fact that his parents right there to support
j bari65 You saw that! Both black parents equals offspring success. Quick! Somebody tell Future to start pulling out!
New Jersey.....owning all.
I see mma in his future. Someone grab him up
If your FROM new jersey you seen this COMING. Honestly he did what everybody here was use to seeing him do WIN no matter what your name is and look out for his ex mate at Rutgers same pedigree
Lewis reminds me a bit of dake in how he moves
Mak going to be a 4Timer champs
thats wwhat they said about cenzo hahahaha but hopefully
Unless some freshman stud comes outta nowhere ...... lol
With the steady defense he showed the whole tournament I wouldn’t be surprised.
Harder than it looks but I hope you're right!
Both Joseph and Hall could be 1 weight class lower
Salute
Both of these guys came to wrestle and weren’t strategizing and game planning like so many of this years matches
Was that Sebastian Maniscalco behind Lewis’ family 8:37
Good for him
Damn nice cradle
that's what I'm talkin about. That girl can wrestle.
Way to go lewis - great wrestling. Also wow he looks like a 174lber to me at least
What a fantastic match by Mekhi. He basically outmuscled a dude with oak tree trunks for legs.
Lewis shoulda just held him in that cradle the whole second get the riding time and backs and put himself in a phenomenal spot
Jersey strong all day long.
That was an awesome fucking match
My neck hurt watching this
He had the Butcher at the end. Could have pinned him... good match.
God I love Joseph but Lewis is just a sight to see!!! What a crazy good wrestler!!! This is insane gotta love it!
LET'S GOOOOOOO
Panther Power.
Joseph had no offense at all!!
5:21 How come Joseph didn't attempt a trip with his right leg? Instead he tried to trip with his left leg. I don't know the rules of wrestling, but it seems to me that he should have stepped in with his right leg for the trip instead of scrambling to attempt a trip with his left leg. Is there a rule against that type of trip?
Dislike for fun , dude did there a good job
That cradle should have been a pin ….
Lewis will never beat Joseph head on
