“I love you Dad!” Makes everything else pale in comparison. God Bless you and your wonderful family. We need more of this is the world!
100% agreed 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I was just saying "I was just saying "I wish my boy had a dad like him""
True story.
The only time my boy ever says he loves me is out of obligation when I say it first!!
@@jupitercyclops6521 is it too late to try?
How much did you pay him to say that? Hmmm
That was my favorite part.you have good boys my friend.
When you find a 50+ year old car that can handle a road trip like that, you've got to give her all the love you can. She's a keeper for sure.
Yes give her a full restoration, thanks derek
I concur , deserves to stay in the family.
@@aaronmahanga7635 not much to restore except for some weight reduction holes... why tear apart an engine and transmission that do so well...and maybe new condenser, it really looks gone
The memories alone..
Worth it!
"Uncovered wooden bridges typically have a lifespan of only 20 years because of the effects of rain and sun, but a covered bridge could last over 100 years"
Nice !
The northeast has a ton of covered bridges. Some of them dating as far back as the 1700s
@Mona Torkia flammable......highly flammable
@Mona Torkia They say creosote causes cancer, it's banned in lot's of countries.
It keeps the ice and snow off of the roadbed too! Especially in New England where I am!
Derek, you, the wife and the boys make me feel like I've gotten back home to a common sense America I can be proud of. Ya know, a guy should thank a guy for making all us guys & gals feel reconnected to our roots!
I second that statement , we need home town small america !
I third that 💙
My wife and I 4th that. Im absolutely addicted and once I turn a video on,I'm locked in.
@@ScottsFormula350TPI Here, here, I fifth that!
The wife, kids and I sixth that! 🇺🇸
The “I love you Dad” was the best part of the video.😉
Only if the guy is your dad ! ;()
Have to agree! The boys love their Dad!
Salty Secretions😂❤😂
This has become my absolute favorite channel on UA-cam. The family aspect is great. The cars found and made to run again is impressive. Very few people would take an old Cadillac out of a swamp to see if would start let alone run and drive and drag race with an entire family along for a hot rod tour. Thank you for all the entertaining content.
Thank you for the kind words
The more I watch VGG videos like this the more I love them. Good, clean, wholesome fun. Not trash like you see on the mainstream crap.
The “ I love you Dad “ was the best part. I love to hear that from my kids too. Just makes you know you’re doing or did something right.
Keep the videos coming, we can’t wait for new ones. I’ve gone back and starting watching from as far back as they go lol
Thanks Jackson
This is like watching Saturday morning television as a kid in the 80's.
Jetson's in reverse , minus a taking dog !
Like Land of the Lost, only on the road!
I miss those days as a kid waking up Saturday morning watching cartoons for horn leg horn Scooby doo and Tom and Jerry my favs
Transformers 🤙
Hey Derek. I hope that you decide that "Betty White" is worth putting money into and restoring her!!! She's an amazing car and she deserves to be "rust free" and in "ship shape" from front to back. Please do a complete series of videos rebuilding the Cadillac. Thanks
Love this idea
Terrible idea 💡, it's not desirable enough or rare
Agree. It looks close to perfect. Take it all the way.
I agree
@@michaelwoods3850 You're not rare and desirable enough.
I tip my hat to you, the Mrs., and the boys for showing the world what a good, wholesome family should be like, Derek! Thank you for doing it right - we need more of this in the world today!!!
Could not have said it better myself. This is a terrific series of videos. Family time together seeing something not on a phone or tablet.
I was watching this again, with my son and the wife walks in. She said, and I quote "... we should do that next year."
I was just saying -"I wish my boy had a dad like him!"
Hi Derek, I just wanted to commend you and Jessica on the incredible way you're raising your boys. Not only are you actively involving them in wholesome family activities, but more importantly you're teaching them life skills and helping them build character as they are well on their way to becoming fine young men of whom you can be so very proud. The one moment which made me smile the most was when your youngest said for all your followers to hear, "I love you dad!" May the LORD bless you all. 🙏
Watching your vids makes a guy forget about the world for just a little bit, i truly thank you Derek from the bottom of my heart.
What a GREAT Sunday morning surprise. I about cried at the "I love you dad" moment. You and your family are such a great inspiration to me and a whole lot of other people. Thank you Derek and Family!
The boys did a great job of filming the cars, guys teachin' them right!
Thanks Richard
Yes, they did! Very cool and that El Camino kinda caught my eye...had one once.
@@ViceGripGarage I would love to meet ya

@@ViceGripGarage Does your AC work in this old girl? That Frigidaire compressor was one of the best ever made.
Best part of this video for any father, “I LOVE YOU DAD!” Instant smile!!
Watching these Hot Rod Power Tour videos is giving my the itch to get my LeMans T-37 up and running again and drive on the tour. Looks like a blast!
It's amazing to see the three little humans being so good during such a long 4 day journey. Doesn't just show their manners but reflexes on the folks that raised them. Enjoyed the tour with ya.

Very true!
And good editing. Lol.

There’s always one..
At the end of the video it seems like you were missing one of the little rascals. Where did he go?
20 years from now the boys will be doing a re-restoration of the legendary Betty White.... telling stories of traveling the hot rod power tour.
That is what I did with my 63 Belair about 30 years ago: My Dad bought it back in 66. In the early Seventies it was restored the first time. My daughter started driving the cas as well. I told her to hold on to it and maintain it when I am to old or gone. There are so many memories of family trips connected to that car. I would not sell it for 100 000$!
Damn! I've been watching the vgg for 2 weeks now and didn't even miss the garbage on the television once! Wholesome entertainment.
Brought a couple of tears into my eyes when the kid says: "Love you Dad". I've been watching VGG for a couple of years now, and every time I get an alert for another video, I can't wait to watch it. It brings back some sense of sanity, seeing this wonderful intact family and all the G rated fun in this out-of-control country of ours and I just have to say: Derek, Jessica, Kids, thank you all so much for posting this stuff. Watching you all, makes the world make sense again for a little while. THANK YOU !!!!!
That snip-it of your son lettin you know he love yah was the cutest thing ever. You two got your selves some good kids there!
Derek also has a great, fantastic wife! They don't make girls as nice as she is! Derek is lucky!
I haven't seen1 cell phone either. Even in the 60s my sister & I were good but its different times now.
@@richardmorris7063 your right no dam cell phones. Kids raised right, great parents!!!
This just became a fantastic Sunday.
Sure did. Been hot and boring for me until now
Hey Derek, I watched the first episode when you retrieve the Cadillac out the field, and drove it 600 miles, It wasn't a whole lot of wrong with the Cadillac from the get- go, then the last 4 episodes the Cadillac proformance has gotten better and better, WOW! What a great car👏
Thanks for watching
I went back and rewatched it last night.
Never miss a chance to tell a feller or fellette, that you Love them!!
I’m from The St. Louis area and was really hoping to be able to come see you and your awesome family, but got stuck at work. So I did the right thing and ordered a VGG hat for consolation prize for myself. 🤙🍻
They are covered to keep the weather off it.
The bridge will last.
You folks take care, enjoy!!!
thanks Myron
Letting your boys run around with your camera and film all the cool things they saw was such a great thing to see happen. Giving memories to those boys they’ll never forget!
Love you dad … highlight of the video.
Those are the treasured moments we live for, just a bonus having all the cars lol.
Looks like a great time for a family road trip 👍🏻
This video series has been really awesome! Don’t get me wrong, I love revivals, but a guy likes to see some family fun too!
Thank you Kelly
One boy was missing in the back seat at the end of the video, did you trade him for a car ? Love your Channel. Your loyal french Canadian subscriber.
“Apply Juice?” Funniest line I’ve heard for in quite a little while. Love this Channel.
Watched this whole series with my small family. We plan to do the this one day. Thanks for the entertainment and firsthand experience! Love the channel!
Love it when I get a VGG notification! I don't watch main stream entertainment. It's degenerate in my book but I love to watch good wholesome family oriented content from VGG.
I totally agree with your comment about mainstream entertainment. It’s absolutely garbage and set up to help bring the morals of people down to absolute zero. Derek and his family’s videos are good clean wholesome fun.
Yep.. you were correct in your theory. Covered bridges were designed to protect the base structure from the elements.
Thanks Scott
I always thought they were for.snow since I never see them in the south..
Fellers and feletts, that's one CLEAN ass step-dide square body iffa guy ever saw one, and I ain't kiddin ya!
This is a bucket list trip for sure! Thank you for posting the travelog! My sister and brother and I would have killed each other by this point. ;-)
I feel you there, my parents took us on a road trip me my brother and sister plus our cousin to Disneyland from Vancouver bc in Canada and my brother and I got into it a few times and my parents threatened to put us out in the side of the road if we didn’t cool it. Well we we didn’t and they did put us out in the side of the road and drive off. Somewhere near nehalem Oregon. We were stunned as they drove off. We knew were North was so we started walking north…having a convo about how we should have listened and maybe shut up when we were told. We walked for what seemed like an eternity but was probably 5 minutes. And boom there they were they had just gone up to the next turnoff and circled back to pick us up. Just enough time for us to figure out that we were being dicks.
We never did anything to piss of my parents after that…on the trip at least.
I heard a story a few years ago about some parents who did the same thing in the same area of Oregon.
But a state troooer happens upon the kids before the parents got back. And they went to jail for a litany of charges….the 80’s were a different time indeed.
"Parenting done right" I love that you've got a passion and the wife and Kids can and are involved in it.. I look forward to all your video's.. THANK YOU ..
A Beautiful wife in and out
Yeah, everything seems just fine!!!! Lucky children!!!
Damn right. Those boys will not be dragged home by the local sheriff when they are teenagers.
@@AAHKLEE Come on man it's not all that bad... I mean the point is what they learn now NOT to do after being pulled over is what really matters. But your right highly doubt the little humans will get brought home by the Sheriff. Have a good day Sir! Thanks for Watching...
Great his passion is his wife and kids.
That I love you dad pulls at the heart strings. My sons dad has pretty much nothing to do with him. You are a special man with a special family. Love following you all.
I appreciate that
His son broadly sure doesent mind getting in there and helping keep the car clean. Good kid
I was paralyzed three years ago and this video showed several different times where there we’re handicapped people enjoying themselves- think about it- you never see that. So cool to see the trends from the 70’s (family dive vacation) coming back.
I just love VGG and hope the Motor Trend project gets the popularity it deserves. You’re not selling anything, you’re not pretending to be anything. You could be the family next door. I grew up in a racing family and your boys are experiencing a very similar life to mine. Good job showing what “middle America” is really about.
I am so glad that you always have a long line at the meet and greets. It is an indication of how much everyone enjoys your channel.
Hey Derek! Here in Oregon we still have a few covered bridges and it's to protect the bridges from all the weather and elements! 👍
A Feller and his Gal absolutely LOVED following a Guy his Gal and little Feller's on their Road Trip journey. Makin those memories those little Feller's will tell their Lil Feller's add Fillets about years from now. It SURE makes a Heart Happy to see a family unit at LEAST putting up with each other on such a long adventure LOL
It was really nice to meet you. thanks for taking the time to take a look at my buddies 57.
Loving the whole tour! Been very entertaining. I’m going through chemo, so you have no idea how you and your family have made my days.
Good luck Did chemo and radiation for a year. Just about killed me
Will know next month when I get a fresh test done ifI am still clean
@@happyjohn8256 I honestly feel like I may be on recovery right now. But we will know more when I get tested in Sept
After watching all a feller….. fellets and little humans progress throughout the week there was no way I was gonna miss the show on Friday. Amount of cars was amazing, seeing you roll in was the cherry on top! Happy Trails! My daughter says thanks for the matchbox!
Couldn't ask for more. Family, Friends, Classics and the open road! Memories that'll last a lifetime...
Excellent video Derek :) also glad DEBOSS Bronco easy fix for sure and you all have excellent day time too!
It must feel luxurious seeing the wipers and brakes working at the same time! Travel SAFE.
Indeed, thank you!
These have been some of of your best videos. I’m really enjoying them, thanks!
Awesome, thank you!
Be awesome to see the67 Ford F -250 again
It was the "love you dad" for me. That was amazing!!!
I started to think that a feller had a run in with the tyre recycling police!
Your channel has done a lot to fill me in on American cars. Betty White is a beauty, amazing she came from a field after 21 yrs to a 2,000 road trip. I was born and raised in Ireland, along way from these land yachts, I finally feel I can appreciate them (live in Northern WI now).
Thanks for the great channel and family friendly content, this feller appreciates it !
Here in New England we were told that they were covered to protect the decking from the elements, wind, rain, snow and especially ice which can severely damage wood structures.
Apparently an uncovered bridge had a life span of about 20 years in the days before treated timber’s and over a hundred years covered.
You guys somehow someway got disarmed after almost being invaded . Tell the queen she can kiss my arse .
Mr Derick, thank you so much for this series, I've really enjoyed, as a disabled person that loves car, motorcycle and boats I can't physically or financially do it.. so ty so much.. really great family you all are.
Thanks for watching, Glad you enjoy it!
@@ViceGripGarage ty, I was tearing up watching your family road trip, now I'm tearing up again from you guys reaching out, man you guys are awesome
Betty is doing just great, love the old iron, ya just can't beat it.
@ 5:02 Stobe the Hobo would be proud of you. He loved Casey's store and their pizza!
Awesome to see you guys having such a great time !!! Love that your boy's are enjoying it !!! Betty White is doing you proud . . . Trivia report . . . The bridges were covered to protect them from the elements and extend the life of the bridge . . . Bonus fun fact . . . The majority of covered bridges were built between 1825 - 1875, wooden bridges back in the day usually only lasted 10 or so years without being covered . . . Keep enjoying the trip !!! Certainly enjoying watching it . . . . Cheers
This whole Cadillac boat serie from the yard to this amazing family road trip is very entertaining, thanks for letting us being part of it :) (A french vice gripped guy)
Thank you for helpin us kick the Red Coats out of here !
Yup MMMHMM, the "I love you dad" the best part of the whole trip. God bless you guys!
There's some amazing fishing under some of those covered bridges in IN. My largest smallmouth bass ever at the Sugar Creek bridge. Love your channel! Discovered you a few months ago and have been binge watching. Good vibes. God bless you and your family.
You and sons make me miss my dad. You and your wife are amazing. Bless you
Would be tickled to see you and the family interacting with some of these folks. Especially the ones who took the time to stand in line to talk to you.
Covered bridges served a few purposes. 1. The roof protected the structure from the elements in a time before treated lumber. 2 They were protection from the elements (like if a rainstorm popped up back in the horse and wagon days). 3. The stories are that they were a place that young lovers could steal a quick kiss while returning from a date.
I've learned more about U.S cars in two months than in the rest of my 58 years. Keep it up, it's enthralling, nay, addictive. Regards from the U.K.
Betty White is a big boat that was built to last, a guy has to appreciate the fellers who designed these tanks.
I'll tell you what, my son might have been more excited to see my goofy face for .087 seconds in this video than he was to see the video you recorded for him that day. It was great being able to shake your hand, keep being awesome!
Great channel and content is second to none.
5:00 mark is at the Casey's store in Marshall, IL on the southeast corner of US Highway 40 Illinois route 1. This is just a few miles from my Grandpa's farm. Though I live in the mountain west now, I was at that store just two months ago. My wife had to use the bathroom just before we buried my father in the nearby Marshall cemetery in a plot next to Grandma and Grandpa. I enjoy your channel for the nostalgia it brings of my mid-west childhood. Today I find it brought me tender memories of those that have past. Thank you!
D&J, the montage music was on point! Made me feel like I was watching 'Hunter' or 'Simon & Simon' or 'TJ Hooker'. Great time.
I heard some beats from the A-Team theme, too.
Derricks father would and is a proud man watching over God Bless
The fact that you have involved your family in this last series of videos is very endearing to me. Your boys are growing like weeds and your wife is super supportive and helpful! Keep it way up my man, and I will continue to watch! :)
I’ve heard lots of reasons as to why covered bridges came to be; so horses wouldn’t be spooked going over the bridge, to keep snow off the deck, etc. but from what I understand, the real reason is wooden bridges were covered to protect the wooden trusses from the elements. Wood will pretty much last forever if not exposed to the elements, but not so for concrete and even steel, they will deteriorate over time even if covered.... “I’ll Be dipped“!!! Btw I’m addicted to your videos, your sense of humor and funny names you give everything are absolutely priceless! I feel blessed to have you and your wonderful family in my life. I hope you guys have a fun and safe ride home!
Living vicariously my life through you! Saving my Social Security pennies to pull off the trip of a lifetime for next years tour! Wish me luck!
You do it !
Don...
Much luck to you!
Hey Derek and family. It looks like you are all having alot of fun. Great to see a beautiful, happy family. You're incredibly blessed!!
I gotta say I never really planned on having kids but any time I see Derek and these wholesome moments with his kids like the "I love you dad" it makes me come around on it a little bit more.
This video gives me hope for America.

I love that you are doing the tour as a family.
It's gonna be a hoot watching those boys grow into transportation of their own!

Great video thank for bringing us along like always Derek @ViceGripGarage
The kids did a great job with their segment. Guys gotta be a proud Dad
14:39 My mom used to drive a Ford Falcon and this is exactly what I always wanted to do to it.
Seeing all these old cars really makes me wish I was born a few generations earlier. All the cars today look the same.We have a Mazda CX5 (Glorified Station Wagon) and I swear I've seen nearly the exact same car with a different grill with at least 5 different car company logos on it.
Also, your kids are amazing! Any of my nieces or nephews at that age would have been screaming for internet or wifi or video games by now. Hell, most of them still would be and they are over drinking age for the most part. The internet really has ruined our kids.
Your boys will always have great memories. Wow what an experience. Even at over 50, I still remember some things me and my dad did together. We had stayed up In Utah where he was doing construction, so on the way back home he took me through some really cool back roads through Utah. Great fun, and we would talk which some times that didn't happen much
The longest covered Bridge in the world, is Here, In My Province of New Brunswick Canada. It's Located in Hartland New Brunswick. It Span's the Saint John River, and is 1282 ft. long/ (391M). Derek, keep bringing the thunder! Awesome content! Great family!
That construction of the covered bridge was a work of art… so cool to see, don’t really have them here in the U.K…
And cool footage shot by your boys, you can tell they have been paying attention to how dad does it… 😎
That's probably because most of your bridges in the UK are stone. If we had as much history as you folks, ours probably would be too.
We have quite a few where I live. From what I understand they were places where carriage drivers and others could wait out a rain shower or just stop and enjoy the view.
@@pmscalisi the roof is primarily there to protect the load-bearing timbers from weather. Wet timbers are susceptible to damage by rot and insects. Any other benefits are secondary.

What another great video Derek and Jessica! Have absolutely enjoyed you taking us along especially being so far away - Betty White just goes from strength to strength and she is happy to be alive again! And you should be so proud of your boys - they are a testament to the amazing parenting that you and Jessica have given them. I think at least 74% - no… 97.65% of parents should be like you two! Thank you again for just bringing some cheerful positive vibes into what has become a very negative world lately.
OK folks, it's time to push her over the line to 1 million subs. What a housewarming gift that would be.
