I have fished Rosebud a lot over the years but never ice fished it. About 10 yrs ago My friend and I were hunting white tails there and it was November. On our way out we stopped and talked with 2 biologists from Nelson. They were netting the lake find out the ages of the fish via a bone in their head, The only way to get the bone was to kill the fish. We looked in the tubs they had and those 3 tubs large tubs where full of 4-5 lb rainbows I was shocked as I had never caught any near that size. They wanted big fish for their study, all were caught right off the boat luanch, about 60 to 100 feet out.

Interesting. The bones are called Otiliths. Best aging structure for most fish.
