The VK.45.01 P in War Thunder is a German Heavy Tank that was the rejected Porsche Design. This really cursed looking Tiger is a lost relic in terms of War Thunder and it seems even Gaijin has missed it because it's only battle rating 5.3!
The VK 4501 P is very good. It takes the all the things that make the Tiger 1 excellent and with the exception of two weakspots when angling everything is just better. The main advantage comes with the hybrid electric transmission giving it an incredibly fast reverse speed. This is very handy for getting out of tight spots and of course, getting into tight spots too!
This is the second last vehicle for my German Ground Tech Tree collection so I was very excited to play it!

The other thing about it is the similarity to the 200mm Tiger, unless you see it in the kill feed and know the difference then chances are people won’t bother to shoot it from the front, or at least will take a vital second or two to aim at the hull cheeks.

I did not even know that was a mechanic.
Actually got killed once because a shell bounce off my front armor, hit and off my turret, and then did a whole 360 turn back into my armor and penning it.
Even the dude who killed me was legit confused via chat, because he saw his shell killing me from a high angle.

Not really related but once while in a m41 someone shot at me with 155 HE and missed, hit the water between the mainland and the peninsula in the jungle map, then the spall went THROUGH THE GROUND and killed me
2:20 there's a spawn in the Naval Map Fiji for the coastals where if you're anything bigger than a pt boat (e.g. a corvette or a gunboat) you immediately get beached because you spawn in at speed. You're going so fast there's no time to slow down or turn away, not that you can turn away in the narrow channels you get spawned in. Same with the coastal spawns for volcanic island.
This beaching causes you to lose your ship because you can't get off the terrain.

Got very lucky and got it out of a chest.
I hate this one spawn on Alaska, where on the south team, right hand spawn. You can spawn directly infront of a pair of giant rock, and the only way you can drive is the left of it. Where everyone else is funneling through so you have to wait and be last in line D:
In jungle you can spawn falling down a side hill. Luckily a teammate saw it and helped
In a map that i don't remember the name, i spawned in the water and drown.

I don't mean to be mean or anything but the VK 45.01 (P) is not a commander variant of the Tiger I as you said it. In reality this tank never really saw combat, the only known used as a command tank was only one or two prototypes that were pushed into service because since they have them why not. This version of the Tiger I failed the trials against Henschel's design. Because Porsche thought that he would win the competition and to kiss the Führer's boots started to manufacture a hundred of hulls. And the rest hulls were used up as Elefant, a.k.a more commonly known as Ferdinand tank destroyers. The hybrid trasmission was unreliable and was too complicated, while the top speed was less that the competitor, while being heavier and longer, which meant that transporting it on rails was more difficult as well.
The Command Tiger I referred to was the Premium Command Tiger 1P, not the VK.45.01 :)

I love this tiger, I've had it for a while and now not facing other tigers at the same br or most near peer heavy tanks make it a great tank for squad battles. Especially being a very mobile and decently armoured 88mm.
Funnily enough, I actually got this tank from the SL crates from the first 5 crates I opened.
I got it from my 6th one, couldn't believe my luck at first

I pulled this from my 7th snowman gamba box this event. I also pulled the USSR P63C from the same 2015/16 winter event the VK45.01 was in. I'm crazy happy about it. It's super fun, too. Fun fact the P-63 from the event is better than the P63 you can buy for GE in the store but the VK is not as good as the PzVI P command variant you can buy for GE from the store. It's weird how each has a purchasable version in the store even as event vehicles. I don't think many unique event vehicles are like that. I wish they did that with others like the USSR matilda and the Obj 279.
Awesome and same also got the VK45 this event :DDD after millions though but happy none the less as for premium 279's..... ermmmm as a grinder for the normal one im not sure how to feel about that xD entire teams of em....
Girls und Panzer fans will love this tank for it's F1 antics, and we love Lion Team it all the same.

A fine addition to your collection
I was awarded this when it was first added to the game and didn't think much of it then. But now I love it, good gun, great reverse speed, it's a great tank at it's BR.
Got this beauty from sl box in recent event , i absolutely love it , grinded a good part of german tech tree with it , i also pair it with premium tiger p for ultimate destruction

Great content, even the TBD fight was fun, as there is nothing worse than getting bounced by a much much worse plane than your own.

I was lucky enough to get this out of the SL snowman crate things, haven't quite come to grips with it yet!
This is my favourite tank and only play it backwards, the engine+trans make a shield for the tripulation and u go as fast as forward. And u can angle it no problem cause the shoot never reaches the tripulation compartment, its so funny when the people dont even know what are they loocking at.
does it really work well though? cause i tried it with the armour inspection thingy and if you shoot at where the exhaust comes out of the shell goes through and doesnt hit the engine. and goes straight into the crew compartment.
Would really love to get this tank, really love the Tiger tanks and the P has been one of my faves along with the H1, E.
As for spawn there is a spawn in Naval EC which spawns you the opposite direction from where enemies spawn so if you are in a slow ship with a piss turn radius good luck turning without sitting broadside for a while
I’ve only seen an elephant once in War thunder or better known as the nozhorn I only saw it once on a sandy battle when I was playing the Cromwell and then the Valentine
The wagon tiger is fun, basically the same as this vk, but with more armour
2:20 UGH the way it spawns you facing the objective every time. Remember Port Novo? You'd spawn facing completely backwards and against a wall (or telephone pole). If you were playing Britain, it could take half the match to get out of that peninsula...
There’s a few maps where you spawn facing the wrong way, and trying to turn in a Jagdpanther takes so long to turn around and you lose so much time to the enemy trying to get to your spot

honestly this tank is super good and pretty much every shot one taps every tank in it's br.
This is still my favorite tank of WWII and in War Thunder.
Second video of asking you to play 8.7 Sweden, it gets constant dowtiers from the amount of people that are below level 20 buying 7.7 premiums. The Saab 105 g is honestly one of the if not the best cas planes to play (both in results and just enjoyment). The 103c is surprisingly good at taking down helis, and the t55m works like a charm. Lineup: saab105g, 103c, 104, 91-105, t55m, itpsv 90, veak 40.
the thing that would've made this tank perfect is if the engines were placed a little bit higher with the radiator on top of it. cause then you can drive backwards at full speed with extra protection for your crew. make it an is2 but lower br and faster. unfortunately the engine sits really low and that allows for shells to pass through the engine bay into the crew compartment with ease

The Engines are fare to Small Modelled by Gaijin. If you Check old Pictures of the VK 45.01, you can find some, showing a Mechanic sitting on the Engine. The are as high like the Engine Deck^^
If you need to have fun, try the AMX-13 (SS.11), or the full French 6.7 lineup for that matter. Now that they have the M26, they have something with some semblance of armor there (I don't count the AMX M4, since its armor is very unreliable in my experience)!
Don't cry about spawning facing a wrong direction. There were times when we could spawn on a side of a high rock/hill (usually on Ash River), which made you slip down immediately, resulting in a damaged vehicle and most of the time flipped over, too. What a nice start of a battle, isn't it? But still better than spawning INSIDE of a bunker in Karelia with no way to get out...
But my favourite failed spawns were when multiple vehicles spawned inside each other and then all of sudden they all went "see ya" and flew away, literally. It was like a giant explosion throwing the vehicles high and far in the air... 🤣
Ah good times. One of my favourite screenshots I took was back in 2015 where we all spawned on a single spot and my IS-2 sent FLYING across Hürtgen Forest going 183km/h when the screenshot was taken. IIRC, I never even touched the ground before the 25 second timer ended. Didn't even end up very high in the air, my IS-2 just refused to come down.

My favorite German main, bawz! Well played. You know I got a new set of headphones, they are still cheap but these are Sennheiser, EPOS, and now I can hear better. 30 USD as well. My 50$ corsair ones I guess weren't so good at all of the frequencies. I am also seeing enemies better, and overall understanding when and where they might be, so been enjoying the game a bit more. Did you see the Newley restored Grant video? Do you have that thing? The elephant used to be my favorite tank but I think now my favorite is the grant. It is a M3 Lee, but the Brits knew he was a confederate prick, and named it a much better general. I think it is underrated, and has a M2 75 AND a 37 on an early Sherman chassis, which are a whole BR higher +. I don't have the grant but I do have the Lee and the Lend Lease Russian one. Maybe worth a vid? I will probably look and you did done in the last year or something.

Since they added the Breda 90/53 they have added a new round for the Italian 90mm gun, maybe you could make a video in the future with a lineup of just 90mm 90/53 guns (Breda 90/53, Breda 501 and 90 /53 M41M)

The VK45.01P has always been interesting for me because of the technology that was installed.
Unfortunately, what bothers me about the VK45.01P and the Premium version is that the inside of the turret model is slightly misrepresented. The turret layout should be like that of the Tiger 1. Unfortunately, the breech is too short and the coaxial machine gun looks too far out of the aperture.
Is there a possibility to point this out to Gaijin or to mention errors in the models?

2:20 damn near all the spawns on Ash River drive me nuts. but it is a smallish map, so it's probably on purpose
id argue, gaijin didnt forget about this tank, its pretty much a tiger1 but worse. the entire point of a tiger (a heavy tank) is its armor, so by creating the big angled armor weakness on the side, you eliminate the armor strenght... and its still got the cupola... so id say 5.3 is fine

You should try the Leopard 2AV. It lacks thermals and is generally a downtowned 2A4, but still a blast. It's agile as fuck, the gun only looses like 2mm pen at 10m. Overall, a fun vehicle
I grinded the 2AV when it came out during the event, I was still at like 7.0-8.0 player at the time. The 2AV was my first top tier tank and I’ve always loved its performance. He should definitely give it a shot.
