    Nice video and good review. Surprised Kawi priced it so close to Versys X, even though different bikes for slightly different style of riding. Love your channel!!

      Affordability was one of the priorities for Kawasaki - hence the $5349 price tag.

      You do get alot more suspension wise and frame wise with actual dual sports as opposed to an adventure bike. I can think of lots of occasions id much prefer a klx over a versys. Most trails where i live id never expose the versys to. Just super fine sand mixed with rocks and hidden ruts full of sand. I really don't think the ninja 300 engine in the versys or the street oriented suspension would like it one bit haha. Hence why Honda has their crf250 rally at almost as much as their cb500x...

    I bought a new KLR250 way back in 1989. Loved that bike. Rode it year round to work, used it at work to round up cattle. Took it trailriding on Sundays. Snow sun didn't matter, I had fun on it.

    I bought a 2019 camo one. My first dual sport. My other bike is a Versys 1000. The KLX is a great around town fun machine. People are drawn to it for some reason
    and walk right up to talk to you. I actually enjoy it now more than the big bike. Best shifting bike I've ever owned and you will appreciate having a 6 speed. I bought it for desert and mountain prospecting and really did not expect it to be so good on the street.
    Great bike

    I have the 2016 KLX 250. Stock. I weigh 110kgs at 6’4 and ride trails only. Great, reliable bike with very low maintenance. Really got to push it hard going up steep hills but otherwise a great, simple and reliable bike. I would never ride it on the freeway, really struggle to get to 100kmh. Easy maintenance even for a hack like me. Good beginner bike

    The thing about this bike is you want to ride it. You will have a blast on the street and 2 lane highways. It would make an outstanding first bike for anyone maybe 5 foot 9 inch or taller. Very easy and forgiving to learn on it. Then you get to explore off road areas on the weekend.

    I am 5'8" . I wish there were more 400 cc dual sport with lower seat height. The DRZ is a bit tall, and so is the new Honda 450. Same with all the KTM's in that class. The DR 650 has good seating for me but weighs 366 lbs.

    I find that even with fuel injection, it tends to be cold blooded. For example, if you start the bike and hit the road, it might die while shifting down to a stop light. After about 5 minutes riding though it doesn’t do that.

      Jeff Ferguson I agree, and that would put the DRZ400S in the history books once and for all . If Suzuki would pull their head out of their ass , they would upgrade that DRZ400S to fuel injection and a 6 speed gear ⚙️ box , shave a few pounds, modify the suspension and give it new look with a lower seat height . SMASH HIT ! Selling like hot cakes 🥞 at an IHOP on Sunday morning.

But have to mention the wiring need a lot of upgrades because overtime the insulation deteriorates and the naked cable can touch the body and caused mayhem.

      I was thinking the same thing. I've never had a problem with any of my carbureted bikes. As long as they are jetted correctly, there is no problem. I don't like fuel injected bikes because of all the extra junk that goes with them; computer, cam position sensor, oxygen sensor, etc.

      @williamhalford6691 6 років тому

      My KLR-250 was normally not too bad, but it would occasionally be hard to start, even more so if I laid it over (and it was kick start). And with the introduction of ethanol blend gasoline, I quickly learned how to clean a carb...a problem I've never had on any fuel injected vehicle due to ethanol. For that matter, other than a bad injector on a used junkyard engine I bought for a Dodge truck, I've never even had a fuel injection problem at all. Same thing with the carb on the 2006 Yamaha Wolverine 450 4 wheeler I had, which sat a lot more...but never a problem on the 2009 Yamaha Grizzly 550 EPS, which sat just as much, but had fuel injection that I never had to work on. And then there was the 1982 Suzuki GS-1100 I had, which had 4 carbs that needed work due to ethanol. Fuel injection may be worse if you have a problem, but you're less likely to have a problem with fuel injection.

      ryanascotty after having a few fuel injected bikes I wanted to tell you, I love my carburetors! They don't plug up, shut down, fuel pump go out and ruin your trip exploring when your a state or two away. Happened to me more than once. Not only that, carbs are easier and cheaper to tune for power and milage. I don't want to buy a computer to make my bike run right after opening up the intake and new exhaust, jets are cheaper, and you get good fast results. I got to where I would not take my new fuel injected bikes out of town to Colorado with me for fear of problems unless I have room for 2 bikes. Also back to back comparisons on the bikes make me feel like the carburated bike has more fuel potential at any rpm giving it a broader powerband.

      I almost sold it after my trip but I decided to keep it as a second bike.....I'm going to buy a 351 kit and make it a little beast. It's just way too fun and very very cheap to own and maintain.

    Kawasaki temporarily ended the klx 250 for reasons of emissions. After the 2014 line, it was too difficult to pass with with carburated fuel.

      It was he slump in sales .had nothing to do with the missions. if it has something to do with the missions , they just would have to do injected model for the following year. the fuel injected KLX bike been in Asia for a few years now.

  • @a.whiteman4182
    @a.whiteman4182 7 років тому +1

    for 1,000 more, you get a DR 650. Old school yes, but lots and lots of torque.
    Lots.

    • @williamhalford6691
      @williamhalford6691 6 років тому

      According to the websites, it's actually $1,2000 more for the DR when compared to the non-camo KLX. But also a 17" rear wheel, with fewer tire choices, especially if you want a more dirt worthy DOT legal tire (a problem I had with my 1998 KLR-250), compared to the 18" KLX rear. And also about 62 pounds heavier. They aren't exactly in the same class, but if I'm going off road more, especially if on more difficult terrain, even more so on soft Florida sand (where I used to take my KLR-250), give me the lesser weight with better rear tire options. And for slower speeds in technical terrain, give me the liquid cooling of the KLX.
