Reality is that you are not only expected to pay for food and drinks but also their taxi fare there and to go home. In 15 years of dating here only once has a woman bought me a meal and that was the breakfast in a cafe the morning after she slept in my bed.
If I invite, I pay, just don't take advantage. I usually also send them home with food for their families as well.
