Moved out of London after being there (Kingston /Surbiton) for 27 years and back sort of close to where I grew up in Wiltshire. Couldn't pay me to move back up there now.
Small world..now in Scotland 20 years but grew up early years in Sidcup Blackfen and schooled at Welling. And also have the same book you bought...I am on 2nd copy as the 1st copy I bought for £2 in a British heart shop in Helensburgh...but only when I got home did i realise the book reeked of smoke /nicoteen that probably killed the previous owner. 2nd copy bought on line...and smoke free thank goodness...a brill book. Great vids v enjoyable many thanks
Freddie I am one of your viewers from Greece and I plan with my wife to come early in the spring to London. I need your help regardless where to find a place to rent a Bonneville and what you recommend for a place with a garage for 2-3 days near London area. My plan is to visit Bike Shed, some other motorcycle places and see some things of the beautiful London.
Freddie has ridden so many modern bikes, he's absolutely qualified to appreciate and re-appreciate his "old" Bonnie. He's not into impressing his followers with ownership of a string of fancy new & expensive rides. Instead, he prioritizes his $ so he can enjoy and share the broader aspects of motorcycling. Something all us bikers should remember.
Hey Freddie, i think your headlamp is pointing skywards! I spotted it the other day when you were driving out of your Ipswich garage, but it looks the same in this video. Might be worth checking it’s up and down alignment…
Thanks for the videos, always a pleasure to watch.
Been like that for months.. Strange Kingdom motors didn't notice that..
Looks a nice place to live. Ever time I ride through flooded roads I tell myself I’m doing a dobbie
Freddie, been watching every video you post for a couple of years now, I'm always inspired by your travels which led me to get my own triumph and go on few trips. Now you've moved closer to kent it might be worth going to Aylesford Wharf, Forstal Rd ME20 7XA. There is a big Harvey davison showroom with cafe etc and its right next door to a new triumph show room too , great to compare side by side. Keep doing what you do. Also have you ever thought of using some of Monkias photos of the bike scenes to produce a 2024 calendar, youve got a captive audience who love bikes and your journeys ..
Thanks to you and Monica for taking us on this little outing. Love your videos Freddie.
I have been through Blackheath twice on the way to France, coming from Australia. Both times I thought I’d love to stop here. It looks very English. Where the country meets the city. Thanks Freddie.
its rough now though. a bit stabby.
@@888ssss that’d be right. Stabby or shabby? Haha
stabby mate. its full of migrants at night.@@chrisso35
London is very different from the rest of England.
@@PDCRed yeah, I’ve been there a few times. London is too busy.
You're right about old bikes. However, I had a classic Montessa 350 trials bike, and that experience taught me that if you like old classics, you'd better love being a mechanic. Since then, it's been all new bikes - I'd prefer to be in the hills than my garage. Lesson learnt...
Hi Freddie, recognised the old flat immediately. Back to where it all began? I have just returned from 2 weeks holiday with very poor internet connectivity. So I have sat back enjoying several coffees and binging on Freddie (and of course Monika) , a great way to spend a Sunday. PS you have to keep the Bonneville really suits both your style. (also interested to hear what was in the Barbour box, sorry to be nosey ! 😂)
Welcome to Kent. I do arrange rideouts with a fb group if you need people to ride with.
You should try to find a good lightweight cover Freddie to at least keep it dry when not in use 😊
I’ve walked round Blackheath many times and never once noticed that bookshop. Will definitely have to take a look next time in London. Also good call on the pastry shop, only been in once but it was one of the best croissants I’ve eaten 😊
I know EXACTLY where you are. 😂 I go to that Starbucks whenever I’m working in Belvedere on a set build company. I’ll wave next time 😂😂
Welcome back ! Sad state of affairs but unfortunately it’s not just London, both of my daughters - one robbed of cash (Rome) the other her phone (Ibiza) despite many prior warnings to be vigilant from my wife & I, the parasite’s are everywhere ! Anyway, if you fancy some proper grub, I’ll shout you pie & mash tomorrow, you can meet Eddie the Enfield 🏍👌😅
Good purchase Freddie, not many other ways to make £100,000 in 9 years from no work than to let your house appreciate! Hoping you're going to get all the security kit back out before the bike goes walkies. 2 separate security devices means your bike is less likely to be nicked than a car.
nice flat , hope you are very happy there Freddie and Monica .liked the cat at the filling station . did you bring the lovely white cat with you ? .
Freddie, I feel the same about my T100
Freddie, love the Trails Barbour, if I may ask can you tell what size it is? I've been meaning to pick one up to complement my 120 Annie Royal Enfied X Belstaff Trailmaster. Thanks very much!
The cat was a good marketing tactic.
Leaving a heavy lock dangling against the rear indicator . I wonder if there be a moment , hmmm why does the indicator not work anymore.
"bella vista" is Italian for beautiful view. "belevedere" means lookout or viewpoint.
Looks like ya need a nice Persian rug :)
I reckon you're a time traveller soon to become UK Govs Nostalgia Ambassador 😊
I used to live in Blackheath, sadly my next door neighbours (who unbeknown to us when we moved there) turned out to be the village druggies/drunks somewhat spolied it for us with their relentless ASBO behavior requiring constant police presence - regardless, still a lovely place and I miss being there now. Blackheath is so called as the heath (the big grass bit) is a noted burial site for victims of the Black Death - so thats another claim to fame you can add to the list.
Starbucks!!!…….SOLD 🫶🏻😆🎯
How much is the flat worth now fredster… also you should do a bike shed meet up now you are back in London
Bonneville is a signature trademark for you guys. Blackheath is a great location. I grew up in those parts.
I grew up in Blackheath.
My parents ran the Princess of wales.
I went to St Josephs Academy ( long gone) and joined the British Army in the recruitment office oppisite the train station.
Its called Blackheath because all the bodies from the plague were burried there.
This is fascinating, thank you for sharing
If real estate in England is like America (which I’m positive it’s is)…..that little flat has been one of the best financial investments you’ve made in your life thus far. It will bring monthly income for generations - that is if you and Monica (Spelling??) have future little baby Dobbs’s to inherit the property
Seen many train station cats but never a petrol station cat .... 🤷 I did once see a seagull nicking chocolate bars from inside of a petrol station mini market, tho ;) Speaking of, i tend to turn a blind eye to shop theft these days esp food/baby stuff in supermarkets etc.. People doing what they can to survive after 10+ years of Tories, and esp after the Truss government :(
Well, ok, I won't unsub. It's a pretty neighborhood you've got there, despite the shoplifters....
Does it always rains in UK?
No, sometimes it just drizzles for months on end
I’d suggest your little flat was a very shrewd purchase nine years ago and a very convenient location! Good to see you back on the Triumph Freddie! 👏😀👍🏍
Thanks Anton!🙌🏻
I dunno - as someone who knows of Belvedere and Erith etc ...not sure "wise" is the correct word. But, London is a nightmare - so any roof will do.
And Thamesmead???? OMG no no no. For those that don't know - Thamesmead is where they shot Clockwork Orange ... and its 100x worse since then
I bought a new bike in 2020, my first brand new vehicle. I bought it outright with the intention of keeping it for a long time for the reason you discuss at the end of this film, to write a story with it. It started out perfect, spotless in the showroom, no miles, not a single blemish. A blank page, the same as every other bike of that type but now, three years and 15,000 miles later it’s been lightly modified to suit me, it’s been to 10 countries, it’s got emissions stickers and autoroute stickers from across Europe stuck to it, it’s got little marks and dings on it and I know exactly how, when and where every single one of them happened. I still find the grey dust from some Polish roadworks under the seat, it has a chain fitted in Lithuania, I have a picture of it with a little Estonian girl pretending to ride it. Three years in and we’ve only just started, I intend to ride it through every country in Europe and possibly beyond and one day when I can’t ride any more I hope someone with your viewpoint will buy it and keep adding to it’s story. A brand new bike on finance every two years is very nice i’m sure but I would feel like i’m missing out on something quite special if I hopped from bike to bike like that. I will buy another bike in the future, but I’ll always keep this one.
Too shy to cancel gym membership, love it.
As usual, loving the tourism side of the videos Freddie. That bookshop looked awesome for random book finds.
Hi Freddie! Love your videos! It’s such a treat, starting the Sunday morning with a coffee and your video. (Especially when it is 3 degrees and raining in Tønsberg (Norway) today). Fun fact, my wife and I also have a Bonneville and a Fiat 500. Love them both. Regards Bjarne
All the way over in Norway- fantastic! And with (in my very humble opinion) a fine choice in vehicles too👌🏻
Sending you all my very best, have a great day, Bjarne🙂🇳🇴
Same in Freiburg round about 7 degrees & rain 🌧️ (Germany)
@@FreddieDobbs Overpriced crappy crêperie in a London suburb; high cost Britain.😂
I like my Suffolk village. Can make my own coffee .
Hope you make back to Suffolk again.
Living with a bike is like living with a partner. You build a relationship.
Some go well, others do not..
Through good and bad experiences you work out if you are right for each other.
A few wrinkles and scrapes don't affect how you feel.
When it's right, it's a special thing.
Ride safe and happy travels 👍
Brilliant, so well said👍
You're so right, I have a 42 year old Bonnie that I took the original owner to buy.Within 3 years it was mine, changing life circumstances necessitated a regretful sale farily soon , but by a series of coincidences the bike was bought back - for more money !.This happened yet again , but now owned 3 times over , it will stay with me with all the memories of fantastic rides and trips that are priceless !.
@@Roger.Coleman1949 fabulous! Ride safe and happy miles together 👍
@@teneretraveller8980 Thanks, and you !.
My problem is I have a split personality I love sports bikes but at 70 I am really really trying to get to grips with the up right bikes and struggling to like one of them ? The most comfortable was a Harley style bike feet up front but simply could not get to grips with it I think I will always need two bikes one for out and out fun the other to trundle about like the old fart that I am !!!!!!! I do need to do something because it is putting me off riding which I never ever thought would happen !!
Unfortunately the shoplifters are putting small shops out of business. It’s a crime which is not taken to seriously
Good video , it’s a shame you could not have stayed in Suffolk
Hi Freddie you should have said how much the flat is worth today? Would shock the yanks. Sorry you have to keep the bike outside. Good luck back in the metropolis mate!
Dont understand your obsession with Starbucks. Awful coffee, but love that you’re back on the Bonnie.😎👍🎩
Thank you Freddie and Monica for another entertaining video. Interesting to see that Blackheath has retained it's village character despite being swallowed up by London many years ago. Take care when you are out and about - as you well know you are not living among the gentle folk of Suffolk now!
Yeah, but we’ve got some of the world’s friendliest tabby cats here.
Having lived in north London for many years and watched it getting worse little by little
I’m so glad I no longer live there anymore
But I wish you both all the best
Probably my favourite bookshop in London. Blackheath is a great place to stay when visiting London.
Hi Freddie, rent out your flat after the winter and try a spring and summer up in Northumberland, great countryside for biking, ferry toNetherlandsfrom Newcastle (Norway route2025) great bookshops and coffee shops Alnwick area ( Barter books largest in UK) beaches etc it's fab ,join the exodus loads moving up here , it's Cornwal without the crowds. On the east coast main line Edinburgh 55 mins from Alnmouth , 👍👍
Freddie, Monica is not only shy when she want to quit her membership at the gym, she is also shy to the camera😅
Good Morning from España Freddie....My eldest son lived in Blackheath, although my wife and l were only visiting it always struck me as a tranquil area to live, certainly where he and his wife lived anyway. An urban fox trotting along the road in front of me. l loved my glimpses of Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk...I'm from Southend originally.. l will no doubt see some of the Kent, Sussex countryside.... all parts of my motorcycling youth.....long before l was visiting children in Blackheath. Lovely apartment Freddie, look forward to riding the Kent countryside....
Hope your bike is secure . There are gangs blatantly stealing them in broad daylight in london. Im reluctant to park my bike up there now. Covered by insurance but a 2006 model so wouldnt get back what its worth.!!
I stayed in Thamesmead in the 80"s. What a dodgy place. Used to ride my GS1000 through the Blackwall tunnel everyday . Sounded good with the old Alfa pipe ! 😂
Expect crime where you are living now.
I expect in the future to hear some sad story of what happened to your motorbike.
Crime is going up exponentially.
We know the reasons but cannot openly say here on UA-cam and social media as we are then classed as racist.
Surprised you didn't get a ticket parked outside the motorcycle bay
That's London !
Freddie, is it just me or is the headlight on the Bonnieville pointed up by 5 or 10 degrees from horizontal, surely your beam is too high, or am I missing something some weird triumph voodoo 😊
Ha - if you were here in the US and confronted a shoplifter you might get shot and they definitely would not be putting anything back. They aren’t even scared of being arrested any longer.
Sorry Freddie but speaking from a lifetime of living in a village your "Village" looks more like a small town to me.
Hi Freddie sad you have left Suffolk we have followed you for some time on your adventures looking forward to more just wondering do you have a garage for your bike
The Bonnie is it conpliant for Ulez that would be my worry of living in London
What's the black jacket you were wearing? It looks great!
I was born and brought up in London do not live there now and will probably never go back
It’s not English anymore. Really sad.
As usual, your choice of music 🎶 especially while in the library was so cool 😎
Enjoy London.
No fresh croissants in Lidl….No in store bakeries!
make sure you keep your bike well locked up, now that your back in london
Hey Freddie, I recognized your flat immediately! I have been watching since video one, and I look forward to them every week, especially on Sunday mornings with my coffee and breakfast. It was really cool to see your flat again, and I hope you enjoy your time in London!
Norwich has priced itself out for me, got an Edwardian townhome in Louth Lincolnshire, moving there in the middle of December, getting the floors done and a decorator in first though.
Love that part of the world . Plan on moving to Horncastle. Ironically from near to Ipswich. Which has become a suburb of London.
London is definitely not for me , OK for a very rare visit
Hi Freddie. Another great video. Your new book looks good on the coffee table. Are you having to keep the Bonneville outside now?
Could not pay me to live there, i hate the place.
Brilliant episode as always. And btw... I think you love 'anything old' because you have the ability to, through your appreciation, transport yourself to these bygone eras and moments. And what a thrill that is!
Well you certainly know my thoughts on older machines and other items gain character! Nothing like it.
Glad to have you back in SE London, look forward to seeing some Kent jaunts.
London needs to go in the bin at this point 😅
Freddie, I've been following for some considerable time and you are still an enigma to me. Giving away your precise location, throwing money at an unreliable bike, the maintenance of your bike, etc, etc. Still, good to watch! 😁👍.
At the beginning of your video it looks like you're close enough to be able to pick up a free, free range and organic Canada goose for Christmas! 😲😉
Morning. 7am, did the traffic noise wake you up? I know when I moved to London from, oddly enough, rural Brittany it took me weeks to get used to the constant sounds of the city, from the ever present hum of traffic to the seemingly constant sirens.
Thank you for the trip out to Blackheath, especially as it looked like miserable weather. Blackheath Tea Hut is one of those gathering points for us before we set off for a ride into the, careful how you say it, Kent countryside.
What a coincidence!🇫🇷🇬🇧
Luckily the windows in the flat stop 95% of all sound, but I did forget about the constant sound of sirens!
The Blackheath Tea Hut- I must visit here👌🏻
@@FreddieDobbs I'm not certain it's worth a special trip, and definitely wouldn't fill a whole UA-cam video, it is literally just a hut serving tea and greasy burgers, that you stand outside. I'd say it's more a place to meet up with someone on a nice day who's ridden from a different part of town before heading wherever it is you're both heading.
It's a bit like the 13 remaining Cabbies Shelters dotted across London (now that is a video), but without the variety of food and quirky history.
"Careful how you say it", I get that! 😂
I don’t think the famous tea hut is there anymore Freddie if I remember rightly it was demolished a few years back when a car or lorry smashed into it? It was a meeting point for bikers & came in handy early hours for a burger & a tea! Welcome ack to London Oh & good call you didn’t choose Thamesmead!
@@JohnSmith-xw5qe they rebuilt it! I was there in the summer waiting for my fellow Alma Mutters before heading out for a weekend camping in Kent.
The Italian know how to dress even back in the 50s and 60s I would wear some of that gear today I like these little treat of history and cute coffee shops in you videos mate a😅 and that reminded me my dad used to make us Savoury pancakes then put stew over them 😋 lovely but it was mom cooking the Jamaican dishes motorcycle books must jump into your hands when you walk into a shop coz you always find them 😅😂
I like a good book to read while I enjoy a crepe.....or something like that anyway...
I've been binge watching your older videos and wow, the flat looks amazing! For me it hits as retro futuristic 👌very nice! wonderful choice of books, Ikigai is very helpful and Bond Cars is something I always regretted not buying at a thrift store 😅
I didn't know where you started! What a nice throwback ❤
Freddie you forgot to mention the lovely view of Belmarsh prison on the other side of the road. 😂😂
It’s a small world, I have the very book you bought on my shelf, I also worked in Belvedere in the 1990’s, and regularly stayed with friends in Blackheath! Always the highlight of Sunday mornings watching you both meander around drinking coffee.
I’ve just been watching a video about dinosaurs in your area blocking the ULEZ cameras, have you seen any?
Whoever named it Belvedere was surely skilled in Irony. That view is as close to hell as I can imagine, but then I live in Cornwall in a 200 year old Cottage (which definitely has its downsides too.) But hey, it's yours and Monica's little nest and you are much better off than most. Plus, it's London Capital city and all that culture and money.
I hope all goes well for you and Monica in Blackheath! Good luck to you both!
Sports/Rally racing, my relative, Reg Hillary, did that in the UK before he came across to Canada. In Canada he and another driver won the Shell 4000, the first cross-Canada rally race.
That headlight is still looking to the moon 😊
Thames mead or Belvedere , like choosing between Iraq or Afghanistan 😂😂
Love your style and Monica's videos. I also have A Bonneville (2020 Bud Eakins Special T120), Also RE 2023 Classic 350, RE 2022 Himalayan and 2023 Yamaha XT250. I'm also 87 years old and ride pretty much daily. Usually up to the airport to fly my tail wheel backcountry plane. Great apartment and beautiful Scandinavian furniture. I was a major importer of the furniture for many years here in the states. Still wondering where I can buy the Triumph sweat shirt you were wearing while working on your bike.
Thank you for showing the book "Triumph - The Legend". As a Triumph owner I just ordered this book👍 Greetings from germany🙋♂
I will never sell my Bonneville SE I had it from new in 2009 it is my favourite of all my 5 bikes.
Regards Richards
Looked like you were keeping the Triumph out in the open, hope you can find somewhere under cover!
Another Truimph owner here. Albeit a 675 Daytona. Some good early morning rides in kent. Enjoy. Look forward to the next video.
Blackheath is a brilliant area. First edition James Bond books. No shoplifting in northern Thailand. Nice cat. Like one of ours. Similar colour and lack of proper tail. I like this flat better than the Ipswich one. Shame there isn't any underground parking. Keep the Triumph. I'm keeping my Buell XB12X when I get back to England late next spring. It's a 2006 model. Nick J
Character a great way to discribe a classic, I brought my first Guzzi 2 years ago, a 79 v50. I'm just getting used to its little quirks now, love it, great viewing.
Great Vlog, new to your channel, I’m in Horsham as I love the countryside. I adore your simplistic riding and appreciation of vintage, I have a Honda VFR 800 2001 which has had some issues but I adore the gear driven cams sound. I’m going through and viewing your vlogs which are so entertaining and informative 👊🏻😎👍🏻
Hey Freddie and Monika! I've been watching your channel from Germany for a while now. It's a pleasure to follow your channel. Also because you ride the great Bonnville, Freddie. Well, it's not the type of motorbike I prefer. I ride an old Ducati Monster 695, but people are different and ride different bikes. Your channel is so entertaining. Keep up the good work.
I like Bonnies from about the year you have...especially the SE's. I have a 2011 Mini Cooper and i like it better than the newer ones.
Greetings from Las Vegas. I 'm a bit bummed you left the beautiful countryside, but I'll adjust. -Cheers.
Going to London late April and we will be visiting Blackheath. Thankyou for the tip.
Great video Freddie! Btw I watched your stories and I bought the winter gloves from Xlmoto, as I was actually looking for a new pair, so I jut took advantage of the discount...hopefully it somehow brings to you some benefit! The funniest is I wasn't aware this is a Spanish brand, as I'm Spanish too...take care mate!
And will you now live in London henceforth and leave Ipswich forever?
