Maybe the Bonnie just needed a few days for the electrics to really dry out as well , or it was sulking after you left it out outside for week in the rain. I think you have to show it more love ❤
The Missenden Flyer, All Year Round Motorcyclist and Freddie Dobbs - all so different but Freddie - in your own way you put a great slant on the subjects you cover and indeed, Rye is a gorgeous place!
As a precaution Freddie I would spray all the handlebar switches and the ignition barrel with WD40 or similar. Using the thin pipe attachment. I think the problem was water was shorting your electrics. It may well have dried out now but by spraying you will prevent future corrosion within the terminals. Also take off side panels and spray there too. Lovely video of Rye! 👍
@@JLOSTAFF1 “ACF-50 (Anti-Corrosion Formula) was originally designed to protect aircraft from existing and new corrosion and is now available to motorcyclists. The US Navy carried out tests using ACF-50 on the jets on their Aircraft Carriers. They found that ACF-50 so significantly reduced the corrosion they had previously experienced they now use ACF-50 all the time!”
Freddie, I wouldn’t use WD40 on the switches or ignition. If there's a problem with any of those in the short term WD40 might help, in the longer term it'll just make things worse as it'll just attract more dust and dirt. Use Graphite powder on any thing that uses a key. For the switches use a can of compressed air and gently spray any gunk out of them
@@paulro4I have to disagree. Been using it for years and years on motorcycle switches. I’m 64 and never had a problem. The switches are covered so no muck should enter. I appreciate we all have our thoughts on what’s right and wrong. I can only base my advice on my trouble free experiences?
The look on your face when the bike started was a picture, actually laughed out loud. I actually felt your joy. Know the feeling only too well. Had to change the ecu on my classic 500 after going through the whole electrical system with a toothpick.
I go to rye several times a year on my motorbike and park up by the chipshop roundabout, perfect place for a coffee and to chill out for a few hours. Such a lovely place
Thanks a lot for showing such a lovely place- Rye! All there aires old history of this town. About name Rye- maybe once there was grown rye and people ate its bread as in Monika's homeland we still do!
No it's a very Old English word but my partner like Monika loves the bread of her childhood. . A friend recently brought her some here in Tenerife from Vilnius and her words "Thats REAL bread, not that white stuff you eat"
I wonder. Water. After the run through all that water in Suffolk, and being left out in the rain on London, was the starter circuit shorting? Now dried out. Wd40 and dielectric grease is your friend. Good to see you have found safe storage. Ride safe. Happy travels 👍
You see this is where my life always goes to pot !! If my bike had not started my jump pack would also have been flat !! Then moving on to the car that would probably not have started either for some amazing reason that the A.A. man/woman would have given me ... If I decided to go by bus then there would have been a strike etc etc etc .. You seem to come out the other end what ever happens and I think that is really really cool so well done !!
I'm glad the battery was at fault - simple fix now. Thanks for taking us on a rambling tour of Rye, lovely time of the year - unseasonably warm :) Great autumnal colours, thanks too to Monika for her videography and editing and production. The lovely background music too!
In my 28 years of motorbike ownership I've had plenty of Regulator rectifiers break & I heavily suspect that the battery wasn't charging & that's why it ran badly on 1 & half cylinders & then cut out . Before Freddie rides anywhere he needs to check the battery is charging while running or he mightl be paying a tow truck to take him home
Rye is so beautiful! Check the charging of the Boneville. Get a voltmeter. Check the voltage with everything off, then start the bike. Check the voltage at idle and at higher revs. At higher revs it should read over 13 volts. If it doesn’t, you have a charging problem. If it does, you have a bad battery. They are expensive but I love lithium batteries. If there’s no parasitic drain they will hold a charge for a year. They typically weigh about 1/3 of a lead acid or AGM battery.
@@superelectic45I wasn’t sure about a 13 year old Triumph. A lot of older bikes could barely charge the battery at idle so I didn’t want him fixing a “normal” condition.
In a country full of beautiful towns and villages Rye is a place that one would have to put near the top of the list. Another enjoyable production from the two of you.
There's no doubt in my mind you and Monica should get proceeds from the income England gets from tourism, You two are great embassadors for the beautiful places England has to offer. Thank you for another beautiful video🙏.
Man...Rye looks amazing. I'd sure love to explore all the nooks and crannies of that little town. Good to see the Bonnie back on her feet. You should test to see if the charging system is working properly. A battery shouldn't go flat with the bike sitting there idling. You need a multi-meter but it's a pretty simple and quick job.
Freddie, get a multimeter onto the battery terminals with the bike running....sounds like the reg/rec or genny may have gone as its not charging the battery when running. You want to look for 14v when running, if its less than this you will just drain the battery every time you're out! Good luck!!
Freddie, your content is like none other on YT. Your laid-back delivery and Monika's photography make an incredible combination. So much fun to watch! Keep up the great work!
If your in Rye I would thoroughly recommend the Globe in the marsh inn on the military canal rd. One of my all time favorite places for food and drink . the roads around there are also perfect for bikes.
Thanks for the little travelogue Freddie. l enjoy the short glimpses of Olde Worlde England...Such a contrast to what we currently view on news media of discontent and anger...
What a beautiful spot. Instantly looked at houses for sale in Rye (from Australia!!!!!!!) as I'm sure others did. Plus watching the 007 Road to a million, thanks for the tip. Glad bike is ok too and hope the pasta sauce cleaned up !
Love Rye , it used to be a regular spot when I lived in east Kent , great ride around the coast , I always visit when I’m back in the UK , I now live in southern Austria , if you’re ever down this way , the kettle is always on ! Great video
You are super lucky Freddy that the start wasn't fried! glad the Bonneville is back on the road :) might need to get a cover for it if you leave it outside
Hello Freddie,Monica Another stunning video with so much interesting content. Freddie make sure that the starter motor isn't still engaging ! This is what flattened the battery not the running for 20 minutes, get a new starter relay and charge the battery 😁
Freddie you should have gone up the church steeple. Amazing views from up there. Must admit one of the reasons i love your channel is you have an older bike and live with its problems like i do and most bikers do. Thankyou great channel.
Ohh Freddie, so glad the Bonneville started! I really thought all of the electrical system fried by being left in the pouring rain 🤔 Thankfully it has all come good & now be at peace. Lovely seeing Monika waving to us with the long shadows of available light👌 You both a shining stars in the universe 💫💫 Fix the tank & store it for winter😉
I really respect you sticking with one bike despite trying several as well as possibly being able to just change to a new one. There’s something special about having a close relationship with only one bike.
2:26 Glad it started. I find it a pretty good looking bike. Remember, it took you through the desert, a quite unforgiving environment. And I do not know to what extent that trip contributed to the problems it suffered subsequently. Desert sand is quite an abrasive element. Anyway, back to Old Blighty, with the inherent charm that comes with it, rain or no rain. And sometimes, just to boost moral, glorious blue skies. What more can you ask? Cheers.
Rye is lovely and Mermaid Street is truly magical. Visited last summer while staying in the nearby village of Icklesham with its wonderful 17th century country pub The Queen’s Head and we were lucky enough to have the annual county fair on the adjacent rolling fields with its classic car show. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Another great video Freddie, often a ride-out destination for us from Hailsham. I’m surprised you did mention/film the harbour. A gorgeous fish and chip shop opposite the car park by the net huts. Beautifully filmed Monica. ❤️
Rye is a great place for a ride out, so much to see! Sussex is a good place to ride, but I’m biased! The filming was amazing Monika. Just loved it..Have a great week!
Love your videos Freddie. And I'm glad your bike started, but I'm concerned that the bike's charging system is failing. I would have someone check out the charging system. It may be the problem was the wet, but I wouldn't trust it on a trip until I had it checked.
Pure joy Fred seeing the worry and anxiety gone off your face. I was sure you had drowned it in the puddles previously. I have a power pack and use it and lend it out great little tools. I also bought my 3 daughters one for Xmas last year, always buy them screenwash, plug in heated seats( abs superb). The battery probably died when in storage Fred. It only needs a slight sulphate and it’s the end soon. I would still give it a run to see if the rectifier is working to enable alternator to work. It could have been why cut out after 20 mins as rectifier not permitting charging. It wont affect starting. Put lights on etc to use all battery. My guess is battery is fried and you should get another. Can test with a voltmeter if battery clapped out. Those deep puddles worry me and don’t know where rectifier and alternator are on the bike. Run the bike with headlights on to see if they fully bright or dim and flickers. If bike stopped after 20 mins may not been charging and caused flat. Get Monica to follow u for 20 mins. Also buy some electrical cleaner spray ( silicone) great forcwaterproofing stuff if a tad messy
Hi Freddie. As others have said, the reason the battery went flat because the starter was engaged all the time it was ticking over. I would douse the switchgear in something like wd40 and keep dry over the winter. The 20 minute idling reset won’t work for your triumph. You don’t have an ECU for fuelling as you are on caburettors rather than injection. 🎉
Im no expert.. but handy tip to avoid fuse issues with battery start (I learnt the hard way..) but always attach the positive first then the negative when jump starting.
Freddie, I love your zest for life. You are inquisitive and interested and even the prospect of a dead bike that might need replacing is but a temporary downer for you. If the Bonneville HAD died, you were planning a new biking future. So glad you rate the Speedmaster highly - it's my current bike and I think I've found 'the one' with this, my 2013 Speedmaster Chrome. And Monica's filming is so professional - what a team you two are!
You can buy a can of spray sealer for electrical contacts and wiring, give it a go. I've purchased a spare battery for my bike and put the spare on a optimate charger when not in use. Thanks for taking us to Rye with you and giving us a little historical tour, I'm now going to make sure I find time for a holiday taking in the area as it looks amazing.
Glad the Bonnie is OK again. As others have said, a good spray with wd 40 around the switches and starter solenoid would be wise! I still think the problem started after you went through those floods. 👍
Am I the only one who considers my motorcycle a vehicle? If it cannot handle the rain, even torrential one, without cover then there is something wrong with it that needs fixing.
Freddie, Rye is one of our favourite towns to visit. We live in Seaford which is also lovely but doesn’t have the history of Rye.I am glad it was just the battery now get those badges changed.
Great video as always Freddie, by a great videographer…Monica. Absolutely loved your totally natural reaction to the bike starting…it was a gem! I hope that’s an end to the problems but have a slight concern that the bike is not charging correctly so do take your emergency starter with you in case the bike’s battery gradually discharges, and leaves you stranded! Looking forward to the next one J
Hey Freddie, love Rye, in fact I head down there most weekends on my bike from my home in SE London. Some fantastic biking roads in that part of the South East. One of my favourite routes is leaving Rye on the A259 towards Brookland. Stay on the A259 until you see the sign for Jos cafe. Take that turning and follow that road to Appledore and then just before Appledore take a left turn onto the military road back to Rye. Great little circuit. The B2089 from Rye towards the A21 is also a cracking road.
We stayed at the Mermaid, years ago. Definite splurge for us at the time, stayed in the Queen Mother’s room (which I think they used as an excuse to not refresh the linens.) Had a secret passageway, too.
Great video Freddie 👍 Also I just started watching "Road to a Million" Brilliant 👍 The Two sisters LOL 😅 I was shouting at the screen "The Roman's" LOL 😅 Great stuff 👍 Pleased you got your Triumph Bonneville going ✌️ Cheers Paul Foster 👍
Hi Freddie, your videos are becoming works of art. I spent 10 years or so wandering around so many historic places in Europe. Going to the home of Shakespeare was one of my highlight. I was never in Rye but I did take the car across the chunnel one time so I could not have been too far away. Videos like this really remind me of what Europe was like. A shame I won't see them again in person. But I am very pleased to see them again so beautifully shot. Great video.
Its good to see u start to get more handier with the tools Freddy. The Bonneville is talking to u mate .U getting more engineering skills driving the Bonnie.Love your honest opinions on all the bikes u get the change to drive on ,for me the best you tube chanel on bikes
Yes I agree. An old bike teaches you new skills. My rolling museum piece has me well outside my comfort zone at times. Rebuilding brake calipers, nightmares of getting it wrong. They work well now.
Love Rye - we’re Westerham / Sevenoaks area and probably go once a month if we can - let the dogs run amok on Camber, then head into Rye.. always the perfect day whatever the weather, and autumn/winter I think gives it a new beauty, it’s my favourite time to be there.
Great film as usual - great ride destination, beautifully filmed and narrated! It could be that idling the bike with the headlamp on for that time took enough out of the battery to lower the voltage so it turned itself off, so it maybe ok, if not, then it’s the charge/voltage regulator which is probably at fault🤞
Another great video freddie and Monica, I do like my Sunday morning View with you, rye was lovley and iam glad the Triumph is now running , keep up the good work.
Hi Freddie great content as usual glade the bike is OK. Good ro see Rye also my favourite place like it the first time I went there. Seeing as you where down these parts next time you should come to Margate and see this part of the cost. Hope you have a good weekend regards Martin
In a comment on the last video someone mentioned your starter was going for that 20 minutes which ran the battery down. I agree I heard it as well. Hopefully the starter is ok after that too.
Thankyou for another wonderful video. I look forward to watching your efforts. Glad to see the Triumph is still alive. I also love your Jacket Freddie, be interested to know where it can be purchased from?
I used to have a 2009 Bonnerville which suffered from battery problems and finally i had to buy another one. Not from Triumph obviously but it is annoying that's for sure.
I replaced the battery in my Rocket 3 with a lithium ferrous phosphate unit... like 7 years ago I think. Still in perfect working order, and the bike is in a northern climate and gets parked up every winter. Solid investment. That said, even for lead acid batteries, having a trickle charger plugged in to the bike if it has to stand around for any amount of time makes a lot of sense; leave a connector cable attached so you can just fish the cable out from under the seat. Lead-acid batteries last best when they're topped up, as soon as they start getting low on charge they start sulfating up on the inside and just corroding to death basically. If the battery has failed you once - strong recommendation to discard it and buy new. Normal ones are cheap. Also, you may want to fire the bike up with the seat off again and put a multimeter over the battery poles and measure the voltage. If it's not over 14 volts, you may have a stator issue (under 14 volts, a 12 volt lead battery isn't charging).
Hi Freddie from down here in Australia.. Love your channel and seeing what England is really like.. When will we meet Monika from behind the camera?? Ohh and we've just started watching "Road to a Million ".. looks great.. Cheers Mark
I always carry one of those boosters in my top box. Takes up hardly any room and huge peace of mind, plus I can clip a tyre inflator to the output socket to inflate tyres without having to take off the seat.
I have to say Freddie, Monika's filmiing and editing skills are second to none, people do ot realise what a skillset it actually is,

Just connect the Optimate charger to the bike if not using it for a few days!
Glad the Bonnie is OK again. As others have said, a good spray with wd 40 around the switches and starter solenoid would be wise! I still think the problem started after you went through those floods. 👍
Very good point, you should really stay clear of large amounts of H2o Freddie, oh yeah and if you must park outside use a cover 😊
Am I the only one who considers my motorcycle a vehicle? If it cannot handle the rain, even torrential one, without cover then there is something wrong with it that needs fixing.
@@MaaZeusrain isn't the problem. Driving through deep water is the problem.
Great video Freddie 👍
Also I just started watching "Road to a Million"
Brilliant 👍
The Two sisters LOL 😅
I was shouting at the screen "The Roman's" LOL 😅
Great stuff 👍
Pleased you got your Triumph Bonneville going ✌️
Cheers Paul Foster 👍
Glad to see you got the Bonnie running again Freddie. Rye looks like an interesting place to visit.
What a lovely little town.
Glad the Bonneville lives again. Cold and extensively wet weather is a killer for older bikes and their batteries. Lovely video from Monica as normal.
Lunch in Rye , you got class Freddie 👍
Great film as usual - great ride destination, beautifully filmed and narrated! It could be that idling the bike with the headlamp on for that time took enough out of the battery to lower the voltage so it turned itself off, so it maybe ok, if not, then it’s the charge/voltage regulator which is probably at fault🤞
I live in Rye , you might be interested to know that there is a very popular bike meeting place not far from the antique shops you were looking round
Another great video freddie and Monica, I do like my Sunday morning View with you, rye was lovley and iam glad the Triumph is now running , keep up the good work.
The bike lives on ! I’ve done a couple of bike trips to Rye from my home town of Broadstairs on the south east tip
We have visited Broadstairs a few times on our ride-outs. Love the boats.
You’re outstanding in your field Freddie! Another superb video. Thank you. 👍
Cheers
Mark
Monika does appear in several older videos, the Tenerife series, I think, and others.
superb!
I always carry one of those boosters in my top box. Takes up hardly any room and huge peace of mind, plus I can clip a tyre inflator to the output socket to inflate tyres without having to take off the seat.
