Probably because it's not efficient. Problems like these are not solved by hand in the real world, we use computers to calculate them and the more operations you have in a method it gets slower.There are other ways for integrating like Rombergs integration (i am positive that this is the method MatLab uses to integrate) together with Richardsons extrapolation which will give you a better estimation and it's going to be faster.
