@@blipco5 It means that Alba can just read/sing random names from phone books (which every household in the US used to have in the old days) and it will still sound like heaven. Gotta agree to that comment. Alba has a unique relaxed singing style and her control is absolutely perfect.
@@blipco5 lol in ancient times we had a book we you could look up everyone's phone number without calling information...god am I getting old...😅
Anthony Lenzo - I know what a phone book is. Used to use them all the time, with a dial phone. And sometimes the information lady would scold you if the number was in the book.
That piano build at the end of his solo was super. And Miss Alba is just adorable!

Mr. Chamorro: Greetings from America. I am a player and teacher in Long Beach, CA, USA. For many years, I was a disc jockey at radio station KLON (now KJAZZ in Long Beach) A long, long, long, LONG time from now, there is a very special place for you in heaven. Every time you step in front of these kids you make the world a better place. I have a vibraphone next to my computer. Thanks for letting me play with you today! One of my life goals is now to travel to Europe and hear you live. I saw another video where you do "Everything Happens to Me." Matt Dennis. And then the Jobim stuff. What class and elegance.
Thank you Vicente. Note the way that Alba's whole body reacts (and the rest of the band) when the tenor sax comes in behind her around 1:03. It's like they are all dancing! FYI: I played on the same stage with that same tenor player, Scott Hamilton when I was the same age as these kids. I played vibes in the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band. He was on the program. No, I didn't play with Scott Hamilton, but our band was directed by Thad Jones and Mel Lewis! Trombonist Andy Martin was in that band (we drove up together in my Buick). I remember Thad Jones saying to Andy, "Where did you learn to play so high?" When I watch this I feel like I am 18 again. I know exactly how these kids feel.
😂 The transformation on the faces of the band starting at the 1 minute mark is priceless! The kids are just kinda waiting for their part then the sax starts playing and all the kids go into happy head bobbing is priceless!
Alba is simply amazing! Her tone, pitch and musicality is out of this world! I loveeee you guys, you make each day 1000 brighter! ❤❤❤
I definitely declare myself a fan of Alba. I think she's a great talent and she'll become a great jazz singer. Great voice and, musically speaking, great charm. Continue to make her grow. I've only been listening to jazz for 36 years

Wonderful adaptation of the original arrangement very nicely played and sung -- love the rhythm guitarist. I hope she realizes how much she is part of a great tradition and how important her role is.

One of my Dad's favorite Basie tunes. Great job by everyone, but a big tip of the hat to the pianist. Not many can play in the Bill Basie style as well as you did. Very tasty!

The vocalist has a stunning natural Cadence and tone... all together the music created here makes you smile. So perfect, so sweet, so not hyped and a sense of unity and harmony. Amazing from a fellow musician.
How beautiful is it to hear Alba, then Scott, then the band rising to a wonderful tutti. Scott plays like a breeze through the wine - I listen and enjoy, eyes closed.
After 3:40, I stir and have to look who's playing - Jan! with the coolest of solos, melodies trickling over the rim of the grand in all colours. Bravo!!

Lovely rendition of a classic. This brings back memories of my mother, Marjorie who used to sing this whenever she got up on stage and wherever she was, especially in the salon where she worked during the day. (Apart from other Ella Fitzgerald classics)

Most young jazz musicians are so caught up in demonstrating their chops, the feeling never comes through. Just listen to the restraint of the piano player, who kills it without killing it. So nice.

Just WOW! What a great arrangement and wonderfully played by these young folks. As an old fellow and a long time jazz buff who has heard most of the greats, I am filled with joy to see and hear the musical power that a band can produce. Kudos to you all and especially Mr.. Chamorro.

Its a compliment. If you think about singers like Billy Holiday or Nina Simone, they're old souls - they've been around and experienced heartbreak and pain. Alba has a huge career ahead of her, she's marvellous, and still so young. No negativity meant at all by that comment.

I've been listening to and watching these young people for years. They have really streched their musical talents. Now they are all grown up. They sound like a well known "big band" group. Alba was always great, but she's even better now. Scott is on top of things, as usual. Glad to see him still around. Is he a permanent resident of Barcelona now? (I guess we'll know if he starts speaking catalan!) Carla looks like she's got a whole lot more confidence and comfort -- I guess part of it is just maturing and evolving, but it's nice to see. And Joan, not only are you a miracle worker, but you must have the world's most tolerant neighbors! Great job all around!

Fun to find the Scott's album cover Grand Appearance behind him, written in Japanese, which I got almost 30 years ago. Love to all from Japan. Hope your world tour after this storm is gone.

That would be the renowned jazz composer, lyricist, and Basie co-collaborator Frank "Blues in Hoss' Flat" Foster. I have played a lot of his arrangements over the past fifty years, as has the rest of the world. His musical contributions are legendary. Likewise, his role as a husband and father obviously worthy of your tribute.

Wonderful performance all round ... Alba ... Scott ... and I've never heard the band sound better ; room acoustics just perfect as is the audio - (super job as usual by The 'A Team'). This is surely the 'finished article' and not just a rehearsal ? You must be very proud of what has been accomplished here, Joan !!

Oh Mon Dieu, I was doing some cleaning at home, heard the original by Ella n' Count Basey, then came along this one, and I thought, strange, after some many years of dancing to this, my favourite song, I have never heard this version. So I came to see who was singing and playing 'cause I actually liked it, but liked it at quite the same level as the former. I will remain surprised for some time after today, watching tennagers play n' sing so well. Thank you for this gift, trully inspiring. Teacher n' saxo solist not so tennagers but young souls anyway. Thanks again, I hope you all keep playing, singing and teaching music forever.
