Today’s film shows one of my favorite London Underground lines, the Victoria Line.
It opened in 1968 and runs underground for the entirety of the line. It has been run with automatic train operation since day one, and it has been really optimized for speed.
Trains accelerate and decelerate absolutely precisely, and there are no delays between stopping and opening the doors. Currently 2009 Stock trains are used on the line, which are very clean and modern.
Also, the service frequency is quite amazing, with a train running every minute during peak times.
This film shows scenes from Finsbury Park, Brixton and Pimlico as well as a short ride from Brixton to Stockwell. At Finsbury Park the film also briefly features a Piccadilly Line train, to which one can transfer from the Victoria Line across the platform.
Enjoy!

I just love how well-designed and beautiful these trains are...
Most metro systems have this ungodly wait between when the train stops/moves and when the doors open/close.
+emptyangel Yeah, although in Berlin for example, the doors often open even before the train has come to a halt, and people start getting off while the train still moves.
+Luftschlange same in Paris, the way they have a lever to open the door, I saw some people opening the doors before the train was brought to a halt!
Pip M True!
Boston has to be the worst example of when the train stops/moves and when the doors open/close. Each train waits four seconds after stopping to open the doors, and waits upwards of seven seconds to get going after the doors close.
Victoria 2009 stock train looks beautiful and sounds amazing
The sound of the trains slowing down just makes me miss pre-lockdown so much 😂😔. Seeing the Piccadilly Line hit hard as well as I used it the most.
We are kind of in pre lockdown levels, until we have a vaccine
the design of the trains are one of my favorites, the colors, the shape, the doors, windows, is so amazing
I seen these trains being built in bombardier Derby with the S stock and the class 378s. I had the privilege to drive these trains on the test track and I love the 2009 tube stock
i can’t get enough of the sounds of the tube trains
Agree
Agreed
Brilliant system isn't it the London underground.
Yeah, I love it!
+Luftschlange I just adore it so much.
Yes I love it
That's one thing why the UK is better than USA
@@Great_WesternTVFan Okay chief.
Very nice sound. I listen through headphones. Amazing how sounds good.
Nicely shot mini film, when I use the Victoria line I shall now always note how quickly the doors open compared to other lines.
London! I love it!

That traction motor sound of these older stocks is so great and deep :D
Thank you takes me back so many years. keep safe in these troubled times from a walthamstow lad circa 1968 👍👍
Those new trains and upgraded train control makes station arrival-stop-depart process really efficient. Notice how the stop dead on the spot... no lining up required.
In fact, they could only make it more efficient by allowing the doors to open below 2mph, similar to (I believe) Berlin's system which allows faster alighting.
These new trains are better than the rubbish bakerloo line trains
@Jonah Kemp lol your channel about page is stupid
@@Great_WesternTVFan the bakerloo stock are the oldest in service on the LU. The 09 victoria stock is the newest deep level stock so figures.
Love the hot air that comes through as the train comes and goes..
i love that warm slightly sweet scent that comes from the train i think. and the warm breeze too!
I love the Victoria line! It's very fast and has the nicest sounding voice announcer. "The next station is Pimlico. Doors will open on the right hand side."
The Piccadilly Line opened in 1906 and it was operated as a 1973 tube stock. Also, the Victoria Line has opened in 1968 and it was operated as a 2009 stock which came in June 30, 2011. Before it was a 2009 stock, it was a 1967 stock train.
No the 2009 stock came in late 2009. 1967 stock left in June 2011
Really miss riding on the tube. Hope to come back to London one day!
I just love the underground! It's so interesting! I can't wait to come back to London! :)
I have probably watched this video over a million times! Love these trains even though I don’t live in London. Great work, I can’t stop watching your amazing videos! :D

Victoria line problems:
When you wanna go to Walthamstow Central but two trains in a row is headed for Seven Sisters...
This is fixed now after they did work at Walthamstow Central. All trains go there now
@Sxlsty they literally closed Walthamstow for 3 weeks in august to fix this. It used to be 3/5 of trains went to Walthamstow and now it is almost all
@Sxlsty and also Victoria line manages to turn all 36 trains around at Brixton
@Sxlsty Not a Londoner
But in NYC we have some terminus stations (Like Pelham Bay for the (6) 8 Aveune-14th Street for the (L) and 96-2nd Aveune for the (Q))
Trains can run at the same frequency just they have to leave almost immediately if one platform is already used
It’s showed on the 7 Line however that might not be a good example since at Hudson yards there are several Miles of storage tracks with trains and a junction right before the station
often later in the day trains terminate at seven sisters heading south only going from walthamstow to seven sisters to turn back to the depot
Very good indeed. We love the underground but very rarely visit London now due to age and ''wobbly legs. Love the Glasgow underground as well. Thanks a lot
Your videos are incredibly captivating - I'm binge-watching them right now...
These trains along with the 1992 and 96 stocks are my favourites
the traction motors on the 2009 stock trains sound awesome
Absolutely, I love the 2009 stock.
Yep, they sound so sexy don't they?😍😝👌
I like the noise when they come into the station
So do I.
The 67 stock's traction motor sounds better though.
Great stuff, Danke !
those londoners are so lucky to go on those trains I don't live in london
Thing is, we take this stuff for granted....
they might say hong kong is better because it has better mtr systems... london underground is also quite amazing for me.
Andrew Pau Sawm Sian Piang they do. I found Londoner's complained about the tube all the time, from how long they had to wait (even if it was only 5 minute delay) to how dirty it is (it's one of the cleanest subways I've been on) to how it can't get you to where you need to go as if it's a small system (even tho it's one of the largest in the world).
James 1 If you live in North London, you can go pretty much anywhere, however that isn't the same story in South London.
Andrew Pau Sawm Sian Piang Its not true. maybe the service in the south isn't as good as the North, but with so many overground rails and DLR and tram links exc. London has a hell of a system. I lived in the south west end in London for over 2 years, it was amazing compared to Toronto's transit system where I live, which actually is better then most cities in America/Canada and it's crap compared to what London has. Even tho South is a bunch of different networks.
born and bred in SW9....This is the line that I took for many years and still using to go house of hoops oxford street before we actually got footlocker in Brixton to get them fresh Jays....quick and fast from South to West London. salute to the quickest tube line in the country...💙 💙 💙 🔵 🔵💙🔵🔵💙🔵💙🔵💙🔵💙🔵💙💙
I use the Victoria Line regularly and the trains can be every 30 seconds sometimes and the Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City, Circle and District Line trains have air conditioning by the way
that is not true for the 30 seconds, that is literally impossible and very dangerous, the trains have to be an appropriate distance apart. The shortest time is around 80 to 90 seconds which is one of the fastest in the world, and definitely the fastest in london!
If there were a 30-second headway between trains, it would mean that there are 120 trains per hour running on the line. Currently it only barely manages 36 trains per hour at peak times so it’s still a long way from being a 30-second line 😂
The gaps between trains can be different, it varies on the Victoria line from 1-3 minutes
Walthamstow Central and Brixton get trains roughly every 30 secs but that’s because the platform are both southbound and northbound respectively
The trains stay at the station neearly for 30 seconds and if a train passes a red light because theres no train at the station it will turn yellow andnit causes crashes
Really great video!! I love the noise that the train makes! It's more than great!
Trust me. It's a privilege to travel in These trains especially Central line ❤
Londoner here, these trains run every 1-2 mins in the peak, so overcrowding isnt usually too much of an issue, although the train does always get a bit full every now and then... Personally i think they are the best trains on the network, its the quickest way to get north/south very quickly, although there isnt much of a fast east/west route, central line the fastest but thats always absolutely packed.
This is why london has the best tube system ok ive made my point and this proves it :P
I prefer the Bakerloo and Jubilee lines.
You mean 36 trains per hour. ATO isnt advanced enough for 36 second wait times. Most vic trains will arrive and depart in 80-95 seconds
@@j2m3_raiden5 my bad :p corrected it

i like the c stock noises
i like these 2009 stock noises too. i like the 1996 stock noise too.
Me!
HitSpec it’s similar to the 2009 stock :)
Great video!
Hello. This is a jolly good video. Thanks mate for sharing.
I Love the Victoria Line, My Favourite Line on the Tube.
My favourite is the central line
321 Bus route 👍
I'm going back to London on the 19th and i'll be travelling on the underground between King's Cross and Victoria, which is another nice visit to the underground :)
Now *this* is efficient!
Fascinating!
Beautiful underground
yes, new trains are much smoother, but I prefer riding on the jubilee line which has the 1996 stock, and the northern line which has 1995 stock, but I also like these stocks from the piccadily line which is nice and classic, and 2009 which is a new stock.
London Underground has always been the fastest way to travel
Same for other countries like USA they have their Subway
we have TFL
US have MTA
They're both the same but just different Features
And us Londoners we say that London Underground is the fastest way to travel in the whole Country
The 2009 stock is a Bombardier MOVIA train and it features Bombardier MITRAC AC IGBT-VVVF traction control.
I really like the Victoria, Central and the Jubilee lines
Awesome video :)
SUPERB VIDEO
Great video 👍
you have a new subscriber, me, i love trains.
IndoTravelGuy200 I love Stations.
Brixton looks weird now since it's refurbishment; the green and cream tiles on the platforms look rather nice, but you've still got the old two-tone grey on the far side, with blue relief. Good to see the "ton of bricks" motifs are still there..
The same company that built the 2009 stock trains also built Valencia's 4200 trams in 2006.
The London subway is just so cool.
Victoria Line 100% my fav tube line
Great video.
TOP video :-)
Lovely line :D The best line!!!

Whatever happened to the piccadilly line? I can remember a time when these trains absolutely flew, with headways of 1-2 minutes. Now you wait all day for something that goes at walking speed
Why does the Piccadilly line make a hissing sound when it’s about to leave the station? It also does it while stopping🤔
It is a channel run by a non-profit organization. We are making an interview video about metro in Tao-Yuan, Taiwan.
However, the interviewee mentioned about Victoria Line, and we want to add 9sec from 06:23 to 06:32 of this clip. Is it possible for us to use it?
I like it this is how I miss London
And great system
Vic line is my fav
Who also likes the high B note that starts at 3:05 that the train makes? It reminds me of the metro trains in Stockholm
The smell of Finsbury Park station smells good

Thank you so much for uploading these vids it's helping me practice my tube dispatch announcements. I have live assessment tomorrow. Thanks so much. One tip.. Maybe do not edit the arrival and departure all the time. Would be good to get it in real time. Thumbs up!!!
Glad they are of help. Yeah, I sometimes edit the departure and arrival to either change the camera angle or to cut a few seconds out for striking a better balance with respect to the pace of the video.
Love it
Victoria and Jubilee line are my favorite London Underground lines!

👍
I love the victoria line trains
Super !
My favourite station on the Victoria Line is Finsbury Park.
when did the PA start saying "Doors will open on the left/right hand side? cos in august 2015 i'm sure it didn't say that.
they only say it on the Victoria 09 and jubilee '96 stock trains
0:00 Finsbury Park 2:21 Brixton station. 3:58 Brixton To Stockwell 6:07 Pimlico.
The Victoria Line as a 2009 stock is going the maximum of 80 km/h (50 mph)
Our local station has tiled floors. My high heeled sandals plastic soles slip so much on them, I almost got trapped slipping on a ramp to exit the station.
These sound very similar to the TTC Toronto Rocket, too bad they did not go open gangway design with these though.
+SgtMays I believe they are both based off the Bombardier Movia design.
Luftschlange
The 2009 Stock is part of the same family (Bombardier Movia) as the Toronto Rocket.
You are so lucky to have trains follow one another so quickly. In Toronto our old signalling system doesn't allow for that.
wl03bu but in Toronto its common, well it's actually the norm that trains come every 1-3 minutes throughout the day, it's not as if they are far apart. maybe every 4-6 minutes later at night. They are doing many signal construction (have been closing sections of the subway on weekends for seems like ages now) to squeeze more trains in to have trains running even closer to each other. If there was any complaint about Toronto's system it would just be that it's to small of a system for the size of the city.
Oh yes, the map is way too simple!
I love the Victoria line nois
I have only been on the Jubilee line sadly.. :C But I will be going too London more
0:48 That sound 😍😍😍😍 wow
I love victoria
Line
Cool
Are the train doors on the 1992 stock wider than those on the ‘09 stock?
I think they're pretty equal, but there might be a small difference. The 09 stocks are actually slightly bigger than the other deep level tube stocks.
Yes I remember old carriages tube,,,
I love it too
01:04 Finsbury Park was included with the Piccadilly Line.
Nice
Just wondering why you missed out Vauxhall. The vid went from Stockwell and the next station you showed was Pimlico (Vauxhall is the station after Stockwell and the station before Pimlico) great video though 👍🏼
We're there a mix of modern and old stock on the Victoria Line back then.
nice
My favorite london trains victora line because the sound is almost rocket train in tornoto half r142a/r188/r143
Note the many adverts across the track, not possible on New York's subway, because it never shuts down, in order to change them for new ones
They're slowly being changed to digital video ads now.
I like Victoria line and northern line
from asia subway video to london underground...i feel the different. lol
Eropa punya bro jelas beda kualitasnya
i need this but the announcements only
Why did u say the video was about the Victoria line when u also filmed the Piccadilly line
At Finsbury Park there is an easy cross platform change between the two different lines.
