- This is a very special tribute song composed and recorded by Irish Singer Songwriter Mark Boylan. The song is a tribute to Campbell Gillies who died in an accident in Corfu in June 2012, two days before his 22nd Birthday. Campbell was a remarkably popular young man and a very talented Jockey who had won the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham just three months previous. The song is available to download from itunes with all proceeds going to The Injured Jockey Fund. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
A Song For Campbell
As you made your way up the hill,
No emotion could lay still.
Brindisi, the mighty bay,
And Campbell leading him all the way.
For the brave young man from Haddington,
With the will to win of a champion
For all those left along the way,
We'll never forget that magic day.
When Every Scotsman in the crowd,
Brought you home so proud,
With every stride a memory,
A special place in history.
When our journey begins we do not know,
Which road to take, where do we go,
But with boots of shining leather,
You guided us.
With Lucinda and Scu you were part of the team,
Belief in you was clear to see.
A caring soul with a roving eye,
To your friends and the ladies -- a sweet sweet guy.
And in your kilt you shown your Scottish pride,
With the heart of a lion deep inside.
Every moment - a new story,
That bright March day - your crowning glory.
When Every Scotsman in the crowd,
Brought you home so proud,
With every stride a memory,
A special place in history.
When our journey begins we do not know,
Which road to take, where do we go,
But with boots of shining leather,
You guided us.
Even though there aren't the words to say,
I know that you still here today.
With every stride a memory,
A special place in history.
In all the places I have been,
All the people I have seen,
Theres a smile etched upon every face,
With your name a warm embrace.
When Every Scotsman in the crowd,
Brought you home so proud,
With every stride a memory,
A special place in history.
When our journey begins we do not know,
Which road to take, where do we go,
But with boots of shining leather,
You guided us .

Well done young man, and indeed to all involved. Having been at Cheltenham, roaring on Campbell and The Breeze, this means a lot to me. He indeed had a bright future, and was taken far to early. Glasses up to you young man, and a genuine Scottish toast to the late Campbell Gillies, to Lucinda, and to Brindisi Breeze, the toast of Scotland at Cheltenham last year
Brilliant Mark!
Good song and lovely vocals Mark. A fitting tribute to a fine young jockey who lost his life so tragically while on holiday. R.I.P. Campbell, you are remembered in the hearts of who's life you touched.
