    I absolutely adore my XT-4 and the 16-55 I had purchased with it. It is my first camera I have ever used tether shooting with as well and have found that a fun experience. I am definitely at an amateur level, but this camera is helping me quite a lot with enjoying my photography. With it being as easy to use and understand, I don't get so frustrated when all I want to do is take nice photos lol.
    Very happy Fuji XT-4 owner.

    A very worthwhile upgrade. Upgraded from the XT-3, and the “shooting experience” is night and day. Specifically, IBIS with small primes, articulating screen, battery life, quiet shutter, larger grip and improved auto-focus. Not since my 2006 Pentax K10D (which had IBIS by the way) have I used a camera that has felt so refined and complete. There is something to be said about a 4th generation refined device vs. a 1st generation one. XT-4 + 23mm f/2: BACK TO BASICS 😁!!

  • @jimee998
    @jimee998 4 роки тому +25

    Finally! Avid X-T3 user here and I recently rented and tested the X-T4. I agree with everything but the IBIS was just unreliable when shooting 24fps without an OIS lens. I shot everything at 60 and interpreted it to 24 and it worked out ok. It's stellar on the Ronin like you showed in this video but most cameras are to a certain degree. Battery life is much better but most of us X-T3 users have accumulated batteries and adapted to using them. The screen and AF I think are where it's at. The AF is better but not world's better but that articulating screen is a saint.

      Im assuming this would be a worthy upgrade over my XT2 then...? I currently use an EOS-R for my wedding and corporate work, but I have a few fuji lenses and obviously don't want to abandon them. I really liked my XT2 but I started having an issue with my shutter button.. it was like something broke underneath, the pin maybe? I dunno, but it lost its "half press" when pressing the shutter.. Could have just been bad luck on my part, who knows.. I do love the XT series though for its size... and along with the 16-55mm f2.8, I have the 35m f2. and 23mm f2... and If I did upgrade id probably get the 50mm f2 for a really sweet compact setup.. shit.. I think I'm talking my own self into it already..

    One big thing for Fuji too, is, they have native, pro-level glass available that's designed for APS-C. You don't have to live with a kit lens and you don't have to go all the way up to the bulk of a lens that's designed for full frame. There are some sweet spot pro-level lenses for Fuji that you just can't find for any other mirrorless system. Especially when you start talking about zooms.

      Faisal Sheraz “Almost” adds up to a significant advantage for Fuji by the time you multiply it by several lenses. I use the 16mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, 56mm f/1.2 and 90mm f/2... buying the closest 36x24-format equivalents from Sony would cost exactly $2,000 more at current B&H prices.

    I've been watching their videos quite some time and the videos are always informative, right to the point, and with some cute humor. Jordan at the very beginning of this video puts a smile on your face with his statement, and ..Jordan, keep showing horses, etc - Chris's reaction is amusing... I agree with you guys. I love the Fuji ecosystem and adore my XT3. I don't shoot video preferring stills and I concur that the autofocus plus IBIS plus improved tracking are very worthwhile for me in what I like to do. I've had the XT4 for a couple of weeks now and notice improvements in all the areas I was looking for. I hope Fuji stays the course and ultimately can bring animal face detect into the picture like Sony has. That would be something I would get very excited about. :-)

    I agree that the fully articulating screen is fantastic and long overdue, as is the addition of IBIS. Have had cameras with those features for years, first in a Canon IS 3, then a Panasonic FZ1000M2, now finally the Fuji XT4...a fully articulating screen makes getting photos in odd locations so much easier, and IBIS allows shots you might otherwise not be able to get. This camera with the 16-80mm f4 lens is fantastic...also our old XC 50-230mm is a handy, light-weight, fun to use zoom (not weather-sealed, but nice reach...I think an xt20/xt30 (or xt200 maybe) with an 50-230mm zoom would make a good gift for a tween who only has a point and shoot but is developing an interest in photography.

    I'm a stills shooter. My daily driver (currently my only camera) is a Leica M10 with 50mm f/2 Summicron-M (Leitz Canada, 1979). I purchased both used: the M10 was a factory demonstrator ("Betriebskamera") and I got an amazing deal on the lens. I pushed the boat out considerably for the combo, and I'm glad I did. On the rare occasion I want video, I use my iPhone. I love Fujifilm, having spent quality time with both the X100s and the X-T1.
    That said, I probably will add the X-T3 to my gear when they're back in stock or if I can find a used one. At today's prices, it's a screaming deal. Most of the X-T4's upgrades fall into the "nice to have" category for me. Did I mention I have twin daughters in their senior year of high school? The grip may be a bit better. I do prefer the fully-articulating screen: in my 60's, with both knees repaired and a back injury, I don't get into some positions as easily as I once did. Also, the fully-articulating screen is more useful if I do want to do video, and it's mechanically more robust as well. I’m not enamored of IBIS for stills, though I do see its value for video: it’s a feature best turned off until you need it, as Fujifilm’s chief explained a few years ago. The reason for the X-T3 is that I have a specific need for the 10-24 zoom range. Fujifilm's is $999 new, but it's a constant f/4: I consider variable-aperture zooms to be constant-aperture at whatever the long end is, since they don't stay at the wider aperture for long once you start to zoom in. I also enjoy macro and have the occasional need for a telephoto. So glass and particular needs are my drivers in determining the value proposition for me.

    I would love to have an X-T4 with the display mechanism of the X-T3. It's sturdy, flexible, and allows photos to be taken in sometimes challenging perspectives. The new display mechanism is fragile and always somehow in the way when it is opened. In my opinion, the Vloggers have been given too much credit here.

  • @thegeneral123
    @thegeneral123 4 роки тому +2

    I thought long and hard about going for the X-T3 or the X-T4 as an upgrade from my X-T1. For me it came down to a few things.
    1. I mostly shoot stills, 98% stills. Video is an afterthought for me. If I do shoot video, it's going to be with a tripod/monopod or I will buy a dedicated gimble for the buttery smooth movement. As good as the IBIS is on the X-T4, for video at least, you can't match a dedicated powered gimble. For low light and stills, yes, I can see the advantages but again, I have OIS on a couple of lenses and two F1.4 lenses. If I need more, I'm doing long exposures anyway with a tripod.
    2. The exposure mode control on the X-T1 is something I really like having a specific physical toggle for. On the X-T4 they use that toggle for video or stills mode. This is a downgrade for me as a still shooter.
    3. The flippy screen, less useful to me as a still shooter.
    4. The bigger battery is actually a negative for me as I have several legacy 126 batteries. So battery life is not an issue for me and changing to the X-T4 would mean added costs.
    5. Added costs. Yes the X-T4 is a better camera, more modern, IBIS would be nice but internally from an image quality and focus system standpoint. It's basically the X-T3. The new shutter system is nice though. The deal I got on an X-T3 though was substantial. As a point of reference. Brand new X-T3 with the Fuji leather half case and the Fuji battery grip. For £1149. Where as the X-T4 was some £1549 for just the camera. £400 less with accessories worth almost £400 on top. Not having to buy new batteries at additional cost. It's basically half the price in real terms for a camera that takes the same quality photos and video outside of the IBIS and autofocus improvements. Which can be brought to the X-T3 with a firmware update (autofocus, not IBIS obviously). Will Fuji do this? I don't know because obviously if the X-T3 is 90% or more as capable as the X-T4 for a lot less money. It's going to hurt X-T4 sales and they need new sales.
    So for me it came down to the fact that as an enthusiast shooter, the X-T3 was more than I needed anyway and the extra costs of the X-T4 would just not be good value for me.

    • @jshariff786
      @jshariff786 4 роки тому

      This is a really good breakdown. Granted, I'm biased, because I bought the X-T3 14 months ago, and want to feel good about not waiting for the X-T4. But your rationale for sticking with the 3 matches closely the kind of photography I'm doing.

    I’m surprised you didn’t make a bigger deal about the still/video switch that allows you to move quickly between your unique settings for both modes. If I did mixed stills and videos I would upgrade to this in a heartbeat. But alas, I don’t have an excuse to shoot video except every now and then. So I’m sticking with my XT-3 and gimbal. I splurged and upgraded from the XT-2 to the X-T3 and was glad I did. It seemed like a minor-ish upgrade but I could really tell the difference. The X-T4 doesn’t seem as worth it to me, even after watching this excellent review.

    Hi Chris. Thank you for comprehensive Review. I am planning to buy my first mirrorless camera. I have 2 options in my mind, one is Fujifilm XT4 and other one is Sony A7C. what is your opinion.

    Thanks for the helpful review! Would you recommend the XT4 or the Canon EOS R for simple talking head UA-cam videos. I am hoping to create a great cinematic look to the videos. Thanks!

      I'm on the same boat. As an XT2 owner, I would love to have IBIS to couple with my 90mm. But for the price, buying a new lens would benefit me more.

      I feel the same... now I am watching X-T3 pricing to see if it gets low enough to be interesting... but until then, I'm very happy with my X-T2. Also I still have my original X-T1 which, except for body skin coming off... it's still a great camera as well and my daughters are using it as a learning camera.

      John Bankson I had an X-T3 and actually sold it for an X-T2. The 3 was fine, but it is quite a bit bigger and heavier than the X-T2.

    I would say that the minor upgrade criticism would be applicable for the X-T3, not 4. The only major modification for X-T3 was the APS-C sensor, the X-T4 has several big modifications, IBIS being the biggest.

    Had the XT-2: I like the optics and the vintage feeling, but it slows my photography down. Fuji was not the right camera system for me. I switched to Olympus - beeing very satisfied. So the new XT4 is very interesting because of the new features. Fuji is one of rare companies to hear, what people really want and give it to them in the next model. Respect. It is not mine - but it is the best APSC I know.

      1 Because I had to adjust aperture, time, ISO by knobs. I prefer at quick menu in camera personally.
      2 Then: display was not fully articulating. So in some cases it took much more time/more effort to adjust the viewing angle.
      3 The writing in camera display / EVF is to small
      4 the handgrip was not so comfortable for long holding
      That are the main reasons why it slows me down.

    I bought one of these and I absolutely it! I had to sell my beloved Sony gear (laid off needed the money sadly) but I bought this as kind of an acceptable "downgrade". I gotta say gotta say that after a few days with it I don't really have any regrets. The AF isn't as good as Sony's sure but it's still very capable. This is my first APSC camera I went right into full frame Sony's from the get go and it's all I've known for years. I love this camera, I just wish there were some more glass options (what I'd give for some native Sigma Art lenses).

    I was lucky enough to get my X-T4 quite early and I've really been enjoying it! The only downside for me is the 30 minute recording limit. I don't shoot video often enough to justify buying an external recorder, especially since the X-T4 already does 10 bit internal recording. I know Jordan has criticized other semi-video-oriented cameras for the record limit in the past, so I was surprised that you didn't mention that here.
    Still a great review and a great camera though!

    Great video guys. I have a quick question as I am looking to pick up a Fuji camera for dual purpose of video and photo shooting. Would you recommend the X-H1 (seems to be some good deals going on with the bundled battery grip) or the X-T4? I am an amateur photographer who is more into street photography. My go to is the GR3, but is looking for a camera that has more to offer for a wider range of photography and video shooting. Any comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

    Chris,
    The problem with the rear screen arises for those of us who use L brackets and shoot primarily from a tripod. Yes, it can be used but the L bracket will interfere with full articulation of the screen and looking off axis to compose an image is awkward at best. The articulation of the rear display on the X-T2 and X-T3 is far better for landscape photographers. I understand those who shoot video may prefer the vari-angle display but for those of us who only shoot stills, it's a downgrade. I thought the X-H line was to be the video camera in the Fuji lineup.
    The other issue with the X-T4 (and X-T3 frankly) is that there has been no appreciable improvement in still image quality from the X-T2. Has APSc reached its limit?

  • @MattGarwood777

    Soooo I am always drawn to the Fuji video “look” - far beyond Sony and a little more than canon, for sure. For studio filming primarily, can you recommend a setup? Primary goal is filming for a music-centric UA-cam channel. Lenses and body? Or can I get that look with a cheaper system?

      That's where fuji excels. They make the cameras we ask for, and then continue to update the older cameras with the latest good stuff. My A7 is the cheapest mirrorless they make and it's already had several great upgrades.
      I want to like Sony. That autofocus is great but they keep putting out the same camera every year. The menus are convoluted and the colors are whack. The whitebalance is either baby-diaper orange or neon blue. And they come out again "we improved battery life and made the handle weirdly chunky" FIX THE FUCKING COLOR! I look like the blue man group.
      And canon put out a good product to begin with. But it's getting old and they are planning to put out a mk2 of the m50. They haven't done and probably won't do any updates to the mk1.
