How to prune a japanese maple, weeping variety

In this step by step pruning video you will learn how to prune and maintain the shape of your weeping (dissectum) Japanese maple tree. I always prefer to prune the weeping specimens prior to the leaves opening up as it is much easier to see and plan your cuts according to the size and shape you want.
This particular variety is acer palmatum "red dragon"

Hi Sharon, cutting the tips back will definitely promote new growth as both bud sets will grow. Just make sure you cut back to a set of buds and two limbs will appear as the buds open up.
