I’m 46..... I’m from Dallas where they invented this game... been playing AOE since it came out when I was in college. Spent 1000s of hours playing.... glad to see it make a come back but it’s addicting like crack be careful. Glad you guys figured out how to make money playing it.
Oh my god, I started watching these about a month ago, games starting back in Novemberish last year. I finally caught up! This is the first video game I ever really played, back in 2001, as a kid. I am so glad to see it is still going strong!
Day9 and BreakyCPK were both bigger than any player in their game (SCII & HoN respectively) in their heyday. Day9 diversified and is a little less attached to SC now, and HoN basically got old and died. But back when they were both big, they were more well known than any player.
I only watch your content on UA-cam, but I gotta say. Your voice is great to listen to. Your laugh is hilarious. And maybe best of all, you don't go overboard with ridiculous attempts at making an impression every five minutes like some streamers. I often enjoy just listening to the game in the background while I play myself, it's like having the radio on, especially when there's a co-caster. It's really chill. I'd really like a buffer when and only when the result is a 2-game difference, for example 4-2 in a BO7 or a 3-1 in a BO5. If the series is a 4-0 or a 4-1 stomp, I don't really care about being spoiled. If the series is 4-3, there's obviously no need to buffer since it went to game 7. For a BO7, It's only when it's 4-2 that I would really appreciate a 1-hour buffer at the end. There's also some good meme potential by using the same placeholder to buffer all the videos that fit this criteria, like Legend of Fatslob or something.
Not a complainer but I feel like admins should help ensure the map isn’t too one-sided. Very subjective to evaluate but it was clear on game 5 map that the outcome was basically guaranteed from the start because of wood lines. Thanks for all the content!!

In the beginning of the video when you said it wasn't possible for you to add anti-spoiler buffer at the end of the video I genuinely thought you were just kidding and you were gonna do it (that just can't be hard to do). But when it was 2-1 and yo was winning this, it was kinda obvious there was time only for two last games which are for whoever takes the advantage first. Man, this is really important for youtube-only audience, I would prefer this video buffer in each video (yea, I would). But on semifinals or any other high-hyped event I feel especially very much sorry for not being able to enjoy it fully. I even downloaded a chrome-extension which permits to hide video-length, but its clunky and doesnt work vey well so I get spoilt almost every time. Lol btw, we aren't asking for 3-4 hours added, 1-2 hours would be hugely enough
@@Taeerom that's a bad solution in my opinion. Knowing that, for instance, a game lasts for 20 mins is a no-go right from the start. I mean it will be very easy to spot a winner after huge advantage gaining. Separate games are worse than one full video 100%
I love watching Viper playing Chinese players like Yo and Vivi. Chinese players are very good at aggression, but Viper is still better at defending than they are at attacking. So those games are always very enjoyable to watch :)
Don't know how I ended up here, but your videos have made me want to buy AoE2 and learn how to play. I remember this game being awesome when I was a kid but I had no clue how much there was to the strategy.
No one was saying add 3 to 4 hours to every video, thats quite hyperbole. We just wanted enough of a buffer so it isn't blatantly obvious that the series went 3-0 for example, an hour maybe two MAX. If you want to meet your subscriber targets you need to continuously improve content to some end, which with stuff like this it makes a huge difference. I do legitimately enjoy your content, just this is something that is a large deal to myself and many other youtube viewers and other streamers like Nili are already adding this buffer. I typically don't watch twitch live but I try my best to come over from time to time and throw AOE2 casters/players a twitch prime and a donation or two, even though I am just a "youtube viewer". Please reconsider finding a way to make it work in the future, and understand that "just go to twitch" isn't an answer your fans are going to want to hear as a solution.
I hear what you're saying, but as a footnote: I've been asking this from Riot (a multi billion company) for YEARS, for their LoL streams/events. And they're still not doing it. Tristan is just a dude. He doesn't have a team backing him to keep the stream running for hours after an event is over. He's doing it (mostly) all by himself. Cut him some slack.
Nili is also just a guy doing it by himself which is why I've cited him. It might even be a good idea for Tristan to reach out to him for advice on the topic regarding appropriate lengths to avoid spoilers or easier ways to process an extended clip. I'm not going to cut him some slack because I like his content, and its in everyone's best interest that it continues to just get better and better. I'm simply underlining that this isn't a minor thing that should be overlooked, and that the request isn't out of the ordinary in that others even inside AOE2 are already doing it.

Game 2 he didnt run away, Viper started converting vils for just a moment and they will automatically start to run away. Hes been doing that in this tournament atleast.

Is there an official rulebook for the tournament? I am slightly confused about the civ picks. Can player pick each civ at most once for the whole tournament? can you ban certain civs from your opponents pool? how many restarts do players have? At which point can they nolonger call restarts?
I'm always amazed to see how much flame viper gets, i know most of it is in jest but there is a decent amount that seem to legit think Vipers some toxic horrible Tyrant (see what I did there?) Which is just not true! The whole "FU" comment was hysterical cause they both instantly new it was because Yo was desperate to lame and Viper knew it and was calling him out and probably having a laugh at the same time! Viper almost NEVER lames, even in casual games unless he's specifically trying to troll so he said "fu" cause he finds laming a "Lame" strategy that's just a bit cheap. It would be incredibly easy to pad a video stream without making your computer do extra work, but I think it's a terrible idea that just puts more burden on UA-cam to encode and then store videos. It might even make UA-cam stop encoding in the more efficient VP9/webm format if the choice of whether to do so takes into account how engaged viewers are. It's easy enough to just avoid looking at the total length or what time you're at. If you wanted to do so, and had a finished video obtained by some other means with no padding, this is how: 1) Make a short video using the exact same encoding settings, like resolution and decoding profile/level, that has what you want to show. Like "this space is filler" or something. Hopefully the people who want this don't look at the preview thumbnail for that time. Let's say this video is 1 second long. 2) Step two actually depends on how UA-cam manages variable-frame-rate video now. The sensible way is to use the most recent frame; for a while at least, UA-cam was using the subsequent frame. Assume that it uses the sensible way now. So, create a text file to use with the ffmpeg 'concat' demuxer: ffmpeg DOT org SLASH ffmpeg-all DOT html#concat-1 Use the 'duration' option to make the short video seem longer than it is. (Modifying the second file's timestamp so it starts later didn't work when I tested it, but this did.) Example file, named 'concat.txt': file quarterfinal4.mp4 file nospoiler.mp4 duration 1:39:03 file nospoiler.mp4 3) Copy the video into a new file that includes the padding: ffmpeg -f concat -i concat.txt -c copy -movflags faststart -map_metadata 0 quarterfinal4-padded.mp4 This has a 99-minute gap where there's no video frames. UA-cam will laboriously fill this gap with frames at the video's normal framerate, taking a bunch of time to encode and a bunch of time to decode if anyone watched 99 minutes of nothing happening. But while huns and mongols have very good special units and some other strong civ bonus, magyars have nothing. Against a post-imp opponent the only thing magyars have to defend it's a good spam of huszars to kill the enemy siege but you need a lot of castles to do it. Magyars have good trash, good early feudal raid units and then nothing :(

Keep in mind that since magyars have no gunpowder, your castles wont be producing huzsars when training trebuchets. In the end you'll only end up having a trash unit with antisiege bonus but since magyars have nothing else in the late game, it would be a little help.I think.

Just wanna weigh in against all the people asking for padding to avoid spoilers based on video length: if all uploads were 3+ hours, I wouldn't watch half as many as I currently do. Knowing the length of the match helps me plan when to watch it. If you don't want to be spoilered, just don't look at the length of the video.

I don't think the buffer at the end is needed.... If I'm watching a BO7 or BO5 etc, and I don't want it to be spoiled, I just don't move my mouse/put my mouse on my other monitor, so that the video length is hidden. It's not that hard to do.

Look T90, twitch is an utter fuck up of a site. I won't watch any replays on there, the player doesn't load, the video is bad and I'd have to look for the match in a long replay. Nilli adds time on the end, if you dont like spoilers. I think nilli is the better single caster, but t90 is the best with t90 dave
One solution would be to release it as a playlist, and then have whatever games that wouldn't be played as just the thumbnail.

Adding a buffer is not that hard T90... u do this full time now... u should be able to do this... please do it for us UA-cam only viewers if you really do care...
What's the issue? Do you seriously not have enough self control to not click on the end of the video or scroll down to the comments before watching? What's so hard about watching the video start to finish like any normal person would.

Just wanna weigh in against all the people asking for padding to avoid spoilers based on video length: if all uploads were 3+ hours, I wouldn't watch half as many as I currently do. Knowing the length of the match helps me plan when to watch it. If you don't want to be spoilered, just don't look at the length of the video.

I don't think the buffer at the end is needed.... If I'm watching a BO7 or BO5 etc, and I don't want it to be spoiled, I just don't move my mouse/put my mouse on my other monitor, so that the video length is hidden. It's not that hard to do.
so would it really be that much trouble to edit a hour or 2 of black screen at the end of the video.

Ok pls explain to me what’s the point of adding this buffer thing? If the game is 3-0, it’s 3-0. No IRL sports ever does this, nor should T90. Stop being so sensitive to spoilers and enjoy the actual commentary and games. Because when it’s 3-0, usually it means one player is way better or if both are bad, you wouldn’t want to watch it anyway

Look T90, twitch is an utter fuck up of a site. I won't watch any replays on there, the player doesn't load, the video is bad and I'd have to look for the match in a long replay. I wouldn't even know about you if you didn't upload to UA-cam. Just add a few minutes like GeneralsGentlemen do for example and don't be so tiresome.

As far as watching you on youtube goes, it's highly unpleasant hearing you being mad cocky. You get things wrong, and that is okay. But hearing you justify every mistake makes you look bad. Just say "I was wrong" / "these people are better than me and they know what they are doing". Captain hindsight stuff is not impressive and too often you miss the mark to justify it. I am not sure where to point the finger, but you do seem unpleasantly self-centered.
