RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14 was one of the gaggiest, twistiest, wildest seasons we have ever seen on the series. Having to meet a 16 episode quota, they started throwing whatever they could at the wall, and for the most part, it all stuck. But along the way, fans started calling out just how rigged this season was.
From the chocolate bar twist that had to be planned from the jump to a suspicious edit in Snatch Game, there were a lot of blatant moments of production riggory going on, so what would happen if it was judged fairly? Would the top 5 change? And who would make it further than they did in the season?
We'll break it all down. But let me know in the comments below your thoughts on the season and what you thought was the biggest WTF rigged moment!

I think Michelle having a veto button is a great idea, michelle is the secondary judge, but Ru really makes the decisions, even if michelle disagrees (see the advertisement challenge on Season 6), so it would be nice to see her have a bit of power
kinda cool but also kinda cringe imo
i think it’s a good idea bc she gives good critiques and interacts w the queens on a deeper level then ru, i didn’t think about this but it’s a great idea n thank u for sharing babe 🤍

I feel like ONLY Michelle could have the veto. She gives me the shadiest, nicest, most helpful gig, and I love it.
I will still forever be confused why they didn’t just make the balls the first two episodes. Like, YOU ALREADY MADE TWO BALLS, ONE FOR EACH GROUP, WHY NOT JUST MAKE IT THE PREMIER? And on top of that, I feel like a talent show would relatively easy to do with 14 people at once, and it would’ve made each of the first 3 episodes more palatable.

I guess it's for two reasons
In the drag race format, they usually leave more time to meet the queens than in the challenge, so getting to know each other and creating storylines is more difficult.
Along with the fact that they wanted to make the "pair of balls" joke

Personally, I’d have either Deja or Daya in the high spot, but I wrote it out like that considering Jorgeous was declared high in the real life scenario.
I honestly don’t hate that the fake out eliminations are so pointless
@@marcusmelancon3426 me neither, I like seeing more out of the first eliminated queens, but I just think that it would’ve been more fair to judge two different balls separately as their own episode instead of trying to lump both of them together. And then I think that the collective talent show acts would’ve been more fairly judged as one episode, bc I think that out of both episodes, there were clearly 3 tops, and clearly 3 bottoms.
Having Telephone as the lip sync song after snatch game is actually perfect since Beyoncé and Lady Gaga are the two INFAMOUS celebrities that are always portrayed badly on snatch game.
The first step to fix season 14 is by fixing Kornbread's ankle.
No “born to” favoritism, no riggery and not having seven non-elimination episodes.
I am SO TIRED of “born to” favoritism. I’ve never been big on the “_____ was robbed!” stuff, but that was up till the most recent UK. Krystal may have started strong, but she was fizzling in the second half. Ella was ROBBED, and I (the recurring Deaf fan in your comments) was sofa king confused about what was going on during KV’s win… for those of you who don’t know, the CCs said that Ella had won.

None of them had a good finale runway, none of them did good in the finale lipsync, but Ella did the best in the performance kittys lyrics were messy and Krystal were good but it was a basic I’m fierce and I want the crown lyrics, based on the finale alone none of them deserved to win, but based on the entire season Ella killed it, even kitty would have been more justified than Krystal, her only deserved win was ep 1 ( even then I still think Charity should have won ) but she was okay to mediocre to awful in the rest of the episodes, can kyrstal stans just acknowledge Ru never crowns the same archetype of queen in a row so she wanted a skinny young queen to win no matter how good or bad she did, and just be happy Ella got robbed so your fav could win, like personally Gigi was robbed but I’m so happy Jaida won, or Monique & Manilla were robbed but I’m happy monet won, or Monique was robbed but I’m happy Blu won, like it’s not that hard
I wish we had top 2 lip syncs in first two episodes instead of bottom two lip syncs

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking, but apparently people didn’t live for the start of season 12 ( which they had a top two in both episodes) but the fans didn’t enjoy it so after that and season 13 I guess they just needed to “eliminate” someone in the beginning…
It also created a stigma with fans that someone like Daya couldn’t win even though they slayed the season
@@stripedbandit5252 I absolutely agree. Daya is my favorite queen from this season. Her finale performance was just perfection. I think they didn't give her the music video challenge win because they didn't want her to get to final lip sync.
It gave me s13 'lets crush their spirit and destroy their self esteem' vibes
omg. and they could make it so that the top 2 lip sync for a golden chocolate bar. Then each week Ru would ask both of the queens with the chocolate bar if they want to use it, and they will be safe automatically for the week. so they could use it whenever they think they flopped
So regarding Kerri in Snatch Game: she actually confirmed she would’ve done Mariah Carey for it. And as we saw with both Pangina Heals and KIARA, that’s like a kiss-of-death character to play. She’s probably up there with Beyonce, Whitney Houston, and Lady GaGa for pop stars you can forget about playing on Snatch Game. And I don’t see Kerri doing much better, so I do think she would’ve been in the bottom for it.
Watching the video I was ready to defend miss Colby's charisma and comedy going into the hypothetical snatch game, but uh. Yeah. You're correct. Would have loved to see her try her best Mariah Carey, but Kerri was not surviving past that.

To me the point was that her storyline shouldn’t have been that because she was performing better than the judges were ranking her

I feel like a good way to make the chocolate twist work, is to just have the the bar be actually be random. Whoever picks up the actual gold bar, gets the bar.
I think the issue is that you can't actually tell that they aren't manipulating it behind the scenes. You'd have to have quite prominent identifiers, which they tried to do with the signatures, and make sure the audience is well aware that there's not been any tricks pulled.

in the episode they introduced the cocolatebar twist, Ru was constantly reminding the queens to sign it, yet in the end, it didn't matter.
I think if they did a side-by-side shot of the queen showing the signed candybar to the camera in the workroom when they chose it and then again on the stage, clearly showing the signature, it would at least taken away of the riggory-feeling it all had.
and, if they still wanted to rig things, they still could easily change the paper wrapper

What I think could be good for a one time episode would be like on Dragula when Dollyah found the key. She can save herself from elimination or send a queen to the bottom. This would have been a great twist for Daya to find the key and send Jasmine in the bottom. That would have been awesome

I get adding 1 in, since Kornbread left them 1 Queen short, but I assume that’s what Daytona Winds “everyone is High” was for.

To be honest is kinda weird when you say that you're changing the outcome of the season to create an alternative progression of the show where things are not rigged, then you make choices that are better fo the "narrative". That's rigged, right? When you say Alyssa was the best, but Willow gets the win because it fits the narrative better, isn't this rigging?
This! I prefer the older format where it's purely about creating a non rigged season instead of just making a storyline fanfic
absolutely, the purpose of these videos is to get a glimpse of something we'll never get irl: a fair fucking competition, storyline should not factor in at all in the judging

I think that Maddy was right- 2 design challenge episodes early was too many, and if you’re cutting 2 episodes one of them should have gone, replaced by Daytona Farts.
I think the problem with Maddy was that everyone knew she wasn’t going to win so they edited her to be a boring background queen and just wanted her gone as soon as possible.

It would have been a more fair and shorter season but I feel that we would've lost the most iconic moments of the season that live rent free in my mind now:
- Daya Betty's meltdown over Jorgeous winning the Design challenge wearing "the sexiest napkin ever".
- The fight in Untucked between Maddy and Jasmine just before their lipsync.
- The whole Dayton Winds but specially Lady Camden opening the doors screaming "MaaaXiiiiiimE" and her Freddy Mecury Ruveal.
- The whole Lipsync smackdown but specially THAT moment between Camden and Bosco.
- Bosco fighting to death for Saltine's role in the Rusical because she was about to be eliminated the previous episode.
- Jorgeous reading Bosco for beign in the bottom "3 times in 1 episode"
So in this season I'm not totally mad with the riggory and non-elimination episodes, I think they made a more iconic season.
well if jasmine was low, she'd get negative critiques and think shes up for elim with maddy either way..? if that makes sense? like she was in the btm3 so im sure the fight would still happen, maybe with kerri thrown in this time too.
Also Daya tying up the votes just to piss off Camden and Bosco, then throw the blame to Willow 💀. Icon.
I still don't understand what production saw in Jorgeous to want to keep her in the competition for as long as they did

Her dancing and lypsync skills are phenomenal. Not saying that justifies the favoritism but imagine how different the lypsyncs would have been.
Literally one of my favourite new seasons and I pray they keep this finale format

Not you giving Deja 2 wins after she watched your last video 😂😂. Totally agree though, she was robbed for the DragCon panel. Idk if it's just me but it seems that the producers aren't very willing to give wins to the moderators of group panel challenges even if they did great in a very risky role. Same thing happened to Eureka on AS7z

But the winners of both of those challenges were also moderators Ginger was a moderator, and so was Bosco. They were both the moderators of the worse teams.

I would have kept the Daytona Winds episode just so Camden could go into the finale with 3 wins. Plus, it sets up so many iconic recurring moments and jokes for the season (MAXIIIIINE, Jasmine’s horrible yet genius accent, Camden’s trip reveal).

I think the chocolate twist should’ve been that the queens choose their chocolate bar from the table that they did from week one but after they lost the lip sync! Like the table should’ve been on the main stage at all times and we see the queens choose to stop major riggory!!!
Project runway had Tim Gunn's save and I think if they did something like that with Michelle it will probably work

They used to have Michelle and Santino decide to bring back a queen that had been previously eliminated. But I could see a dramatic "Michelle save" working, like at the time of the lip sync.

Season 14 was such a GOOD season. I don’t even feel like this was as long as Season 13, because of how consistent it was!!!
I think chocolate bar twist could have happened after the girl walked away and is in the work room and there's a wall of chocolate for the bars. The girl chooses one from the wall and opens it backstage. The next day, RuPaul reveals that the bar has been open and to welcome back so-and-so
I just think the season would have been better altogether if Jorgeous hadn’t been favored so noticeably. A fairer game makes for a more satisfying season, like España season 1
Can't wait for your favoritism of Jorgeous video! She got waaaaaaay too many passes starting with being in the top that ball challenge! They bent over backwards to compliment and give her passes when any other queen would've been properly dragged. Idk why they did that and it's not Jorgeous' fault but it's frustrating when production chooses to do that.

21:25 I actually heavily doubt Kerri would've won. Shes a beautiful queen, but we've seen her struggles with lipsyncing, even in her talent show. Maddy actually did pretty good in the lipsyncs all things considered. It would've also been cool to see how far maddy would've gone if she'd have stayed.

Kerri should already leave against Alyssa. She clearly lost that lipsync. I remember shocked youtubers reactions, they already told they will miss Kerri. When she was called to stay they were shocked as hell

I think the chocolate would have been good for the Kerri vs Alyssa lipsync. Obviously the show didn't care about alyssa hunter at all, but lets pretend they did. They then have Alyssa rightfully winning that lipsync and Kerri losing, but then they give Kerri the golden chocolate bar. It also puts the gold bar before like 4 weeks of no one going home so it feels "better" I suppose.
I think in this context, given Lady Camden doesn't have the Freddy Mercury reveal when she pretends to fall, she could win the final lip sync because that fall into a new look could be a gag since has never been seen before.

The problem with you showing that Orion story stays in episode 1 is that there is literally no point to the lip sync in episode 2, because we know no one is going home even though the queens dont, which just removes any tension created whatsoever.
i wish we had top 2 lipsyncs for the double premiers instead!! like we'd get a kornbread and willow lipsync?? huge missed opportunity
What I think should have been a nice twist is that we get a AS6 moment in the third episode, where the queens get to watch a lipsync between Daya and Orion and who wins get to stay in the competition (Daya stays of course and the last two episodes actually count this time).
To not ruin the season trajectory to much, we could get an extra episode (caused by Kornbread getting injured), meaning that Daytona is back
To be fair, season 12 did something similar with the top two lip syncs for each premiere. Even though by the second episode, we as viewers knew there wasn’t gonna be a bottom 2, it was still enjoyable enough to watch. Same with season 13, where no one went home on episodes 2/3. IMO it’s kinda nice seeing the reaction from queens who thought they were gonna get eliminated or have to lip sync, since they’re clearly soooo relieved.

About snatch game, I think Jasmine did fine. She had a fine participation and the last joke was AMAZING. Rupaul don't laughing at it was shady af

I was honestly cackling at a couple of Jasmine’s jokes. They were really smart and played great into the character. Honestly, I’d have put her High. Even with the shady editing I thought she was funny.

I still think Glamazon Prime was used too soon. I think they should’ve gone straight to the 60s girl groups. (Yes you can have 10 queens in that challenge because there were 4 Shangri-las)
I don't really think Angeria would survive a lipsync to Telephone against Bosco, given she underperformed against Willow lol
He also mentioned “choose any of Lalaparuza songs, Angeria would win” but I don’t think there’s any universe where Bosco would lose against Angeria with Swept Away being the lipsync song. That song literally yells Bosco
I think the Daytona winds episode coulda stayed tbh, production had no way of knowing that everyone would do well and with Kornbread leaving it makes sense that there would be an impromptu non elimination episode, and I think that would be better than having two double shantay’s
Also idk if it’s just me but Jasmines lip sync to Unbreak My Heart was like actually bad, by the end she was barely still in drag lol
Production never know how it's gonna go lmao when people say some challenge is rigged they are full of crap. We have seen Queens flop in challenges they specialize in. Like Widow in S12, dancer and she was safe in a dancing challenge same with Jorgeous. Yes Queens have won challenges they specialize in but its not always guaranteed

S13 keeping Kandy was so messy and not gracefully done at all, they were just awkwardly like nevermind come back

I like this, although those two episodes did make a difference on how we saw both of our top 2
LC for Daytona Wind and Willow for her strategies on the Lalaparuza
but also I cant see how they would go around Daya’s storyline
actually i heard (from roscoe's) the willow strategy in the lalaparuza was planned by both willow and bosco to give the producers some material.

Agree, I kinda like how they did it with dela on season six where she lost against Darienne and then ru was just like ‘I’m not ready for you to go’. It’s more transparent and I liked it better than the fake stuff
Major change for me would've been the final lip-sync of Gimme Gimme Gimme being the ABBA version
A change I'd like to make is make the split premiere episodes the design challenge from Episode 3, so it's no longer a ball and we don't have 42 looks, giving us time to see the queens interact, and then now in Episode 3 we replace the ball with the talent show since it needs less time setting up before the challenge takes place.
I think Maddy put up a really good fight in Sugar Mama and maybe could’ve beaten Kerri, she would probably go home the next episode but it would’ve been so funny to see Maddy in the girl group challenge
The button you’re talking about reminds me of in project runway a long time ago they had Tim Gun have like a special save that he could use once during the season if he disagreed with the judges decision to send someone home and I remember enjoying that because it felt earned (because they impressed Tim and he wanted to see more from them) unlike the chocolate bar which was literally just gasilighting the audience into believing it was random when it was quite clearly saved for a mid to late season fan fave when they end up in the bottom
In my opinion daya should’ve been high instead of angeria for the unconventional materials challenge since Angelia’s was well made but basic wal dayas was well constructed, creative and flowing with personality

no jorgeous should’ve been safe. the tops should’ve been angeria, camden and daya with camden winning. angeria’s runway looked professionally made and had great details, it was amazing.

The chocolate twist would have been great if they did it in the middle, everyone opened theirs at the same time, and it worked like the key twist in dragula: The queen with the golden ticket can either save themselves or send someone to the bottom two that episode. That would take the riggory out of it and spice things up.

I think rigged means they do what they want but make us think it was “random” or that it was how the queen actually performed. The veto button cant be rigged because it would literally be like “okay you did bad but we dont want you to go” and its more transparent than lying to us
No but it can't be rigged. That's the whole point. In this scenario they wouldn't have to pull any producer shenanigans to justify a strong competitor staying for narrative purposes. I think it's a good idea.

They already did that to save Kandy last season and Angie/Willow this season and it was really unsatisfying both times (I say that as someone who loves all 3 of them)
The problem with the chocolate bar twist was also that they had like three other non elimination episodes plus that as the last one. So the novelty of "saving" a queen wore off cause we saw it happen so many times already.
I like how this season plays out a lot more than the actual timeline. Jorgeous being in the bottom in almost every episode she was in is exactly how it should’ve gone had it been fair, she’s just not good at Drag Race.
Yeah fair , I just saw Werk the world a few days ago, and tbh she is a good dancer , but her stage presence is a bit weak
That her first number was a dance battle with Camden didn’t help at all tbh .
@@chrissinsxxx she’s a hell of a performer, I just mean when it comes to acting, singing, design, etc. she’s pretty weak when it comes to those challenges no matter how much the show tries to paint her as a frontrunner.

I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY! Girl.... I been saying for so long that some of these production choices would've just been the little bit of polish that this season could've benefited from. i absolutely love listening to you speak, your voice is so pleasing, and your veryyyy informed lol. makes it so exciting to see what’s next for you 💙. also imo the only reason the chocolate twist was a lil stale was because bosco was doing fine until she ended up in the bottom lipsync for snatch game (which should’ve been the double save of the season), for her to be saved the next episode, win that following episode and then not win the competition 😂. now i’m not saying whoever got the bar should’ve won but seemed like a missed opportunity to save an alyssa or jasmine.. idk imagine it going to a lower placing queen for them to get reenergized and fight to the top 5.

Idk, I preferred Daya to Bosco in Snatch game. But for the girl groups challenge, I’m sorry, but I just can’t agree with putting Jorgeous over Camden. Yes something was off about Camden, but she choreographed her group, I thought Jorgeous’s runway was just as basic, if not more, than Cam’s, and Camden had better vocals. Sue me, but there’s no way in my mind that Jorgeous did better that episode.
Agreed on the mirror message before bringing them back. On a lot of the twists where they’re being unnecessarily cruel to contestants, I can’t shake the knowledge that I’m the one paying for this television therefore these people are randomly suffering for my amusement. Not a good feeling.
Ru doesn’t need a save button, she already uses her double shaunte enough … let alone the producer plot armor
I think it would be really interesting if they actually allowed the chocolate bar to be random and depending on who got it, they could work on the story from there. Like if someone who got it and was flopping then received the golden bar, it could create a lot of tension between the cast + an underdog storyline for the queen. Also if one of the top 5 queens had it then they could move onto the final 3 to lipsync for the crown or something. Obviously very rough ideas, but I think someone like that might be good

Even though Bosco was in the bottom I NEVER feared that she would actually go home. It was clear that she was a Producer’s favorite.
My largest problem is probably the number of non elimination episodes and the the number in the finale 5 is way to many 3 is good along with the ratio of queens of colour/ other ethnic background/ culture bc having only 1 queen of colour out of the top 5 is crazy to me and please bring back more design challenges and the makeover challenge
It should be the most talented queens in the final, not racially diverse just for the sake of it. Angie being there made sense because she was amazing, but with Kornbread gone and Jorgeous/Deja not being top 5 material they still made the right call

I’d make the premieres top 2 just bc a Kornbread v Willow lipsync would be iconic, also not having Jasmines suga mama LS is kinda a travesty

I much would have preferred the judges deciding to save someone instead of chocolate, Top 2, and double-shantay (twice). That’s 4 times after the first two episodes. One save from Ru, one save from Ross, one save from Carson, one save from Michele. 🤷🏽♂️ I want that season.

Just as a suggestion: not sure how much extra work it would be, but I would love it if at the end of each of these types of videos where you go through how you would've structured/judged the seasons, you included a chart like the ones on the wiki that gives a brief overview of your season! But if it's a lot of extra work then I totally understand not including one.
The only thing I really disagree with is Deja winning the DragCon challenge. I thought it was a very solid performance, and I loved that runway, but on one hand I do think Bosco was funnier and I don't think she let down her groupmates (unlike Ginger in as6. Jasmine and jorgeous were on the same page of the others but they just weren't funny enough and they struggled throughout the episode, while Jan and Pandora struggling to me was more related to how ginger moderated). On the other hand, Willow was just too damn funny and she kinda overshadowed Deja to me.
Ah, I also disagree with the Bosco and Jasmine lipsync because we could solve all the question marks about the lipsync making them lipsync to Swept Away (which I think was pretty on point with the episode as well). And I don't wanna live in a world without that lipsync!
A veto button is a freakin FABULOUS idea! I would love to see that utilized. But it's use should be limited - perhaps 1 per season? Per judge? Not counting Ru, and the guest judge, that's 3 saves a season. You can't do too many more than that or it would totally screw with the producers storylines. (Not that they haven't done it to themselves numerous times throughout the years - as your channel's existence and popularity proves. lol) It would also lose it's excitement if it happened too many times. I'm wondering if even 3 would be too many? Hmmm........🤔

The golden ticket reveal was not as impactful because there were so many non-elimination episodes. If truly every week one queen went home, having one week where someone is saved would be interesting, especially because we don´t know when to expect it ("it´s up to drag gods"). but by the point we get to the chocolate bar reveal everyone was so sick of no one going home that the general thought process was "ugh no one going home again".... (only my opinion of course)
I think I’d have angeria high over bosco because I understood her, and she was funny how Tammy is funny, just batshit loony, and she’s said a lot of the Tammy references were cut out.
i watched this season months later and i just loved it so much, but i imagine it must be hard watching it at the time

Instead of the chocolate bar they could have done a slot machine like the finale. If you get all cherries (or wigs, lipsticks etc.) you get to stay. Similar to you idea about the veto button. Cue the confetti cannons!
this season would definitely be better than what we got, but missing out on "Camden's Special Windy Day!" and the Lip-Sync Smackdown, which were both PHOENOMENAL episodes would also really blow.
this season was nice to me even if the non elims got frustrating, i lost my job in the middle of the szn and it was nice to have something to look forward to each week while i was in a rough spot

I dont think Angeria would beat Bosco so easily in the top 5 lipsync. I loooove Angeria, but honestly, I dont think she is a great lipsyncer, I think she is just ok, like Bosco. They are sure not bad, but they're ok.
And I love the season how it went, even with the riggory! hhahahaha

Imagine Bosco vs Angeria with Swept Away and without Bosco being crushed after losing 2 lipsyncs in a row. She’d be fantastic. I think Ru would still leave top5 or send Angeria home (which would make a drama with a all white top4)
A thing they could do to have a split premiere with non-elim but still have some stakes, is having a bottom for each episode, they LSFTL, the one suppposed to sashay away is kept, and both loosers from ep1 and 2 have to face each other in Ep 3 and one gets eliminated
Maybe for more drama we can pull something off the hat to still have stakes in ep 3 like, if one of the bottom is actually the winner of episode 3 the queen is saved and replaced by someone that did bad. It's like a middle ground between having stakes, a LFSFL that makes sense without eliminating any queen and that can be done each year basically like Snatch Game.
EDIT : or both loosers from ep 1 and 2 have to LSFTL in ep 3 with a third girl which is the bottom of ep 3. I mean I don't think it's perfect but there is some idea.
