  • Toyota Matrix or Toyota Corolla Matrix appeared on the market in 2003. The first generation was manufactured until 2008. You can select between a base version or more powerful and sporty XR or XRS version with more powerful engine from Toyota Celica (180 HP) compared to 130 HP base version. The main competitors of this car are Volkswagen Golf and Subaru Impreza. Toyota less luxurious interior compared to Volkswagen Golf but better customer reliability rank. Toyota Matrix was also built under Pontiac Vibe trademark which has sportier design.
    Used Toyota Matrix is a good choice for beginner car drivers or for Uber drivers thanks to AWD system and easy to clean interior.
    In this video we will talk about:
    Interior and exterior design
    Engine power
    Wheel bearings
    Driveability
    Maintenance
    Rust
    Oil Leak
    Exhaust

    Meanwhile 12/2021, I bought an extremely high mileage (over 299,999 miles) 04 XRS for 4500 dollars. I personally think they're going to hold thier values as they are getting harder to find. It's a great car.

      Just bought my I think is base model 4WD, for 4k ( 175k miles ) 2006, 1 owner , a big dent in the rear , some little issue here or there ( just 2 sensor ) other than that the car is fine

    No need to replace the catalytic converter unless it's getting clogged. Usually the P0420 code for the catalytic converter just means the downstream O2 sensor is bad and the catalytic converter is still fine. If you switch to an oil like the Castrol GTX high mileage oil it'll help make the catalytic converter last longer.

    I wish I could use my Matrix xR to Uber with! I used to Uber in my 2010 Nissan Cube (the rare 6-speed manual trans version). Now I have a 2005 Matrix but despite it’s clean condition and low 74,000 miles, it is considered “too old” to be allowed on Uber’s platform :(

      Thats my big question with a lot of these "cheap UBER vehicle options" because like all their recs are older than a decade which is the cutoff when I was looking to signup (actually when I 1st looked at the requirements years ago it was a car less than 7 years old, they mustve changed it during covid)
      So it must be different in different countries?

      they're indestructible, I've had one for over 10 years, regular maintenance will keep it going for a long time. the only major thing I had was the generator failed.

      Carlos Moran I would change all the fluids off the bat, both engine oil and transmission oil, I would also suggest changing the spark plugs and fuel injectors. Check the date on the battery or get it tested. Also buy a tester to test the brake fluid, it’s a pen looking thing you can buy on ebay for cheap, it will tell you if your brake fluid has too much water in it, i.e. if you need to have it replaced. Lastly change the air filter and the cabin filter. You should be all set, good luck and happy driving!

    • @AtomicCarReview

    Hi. I am in college right now and considering buying an accident free, clean title 2007 Matrix with 160,000 miles that is being offered for $3,300 USD. How much would you personally pay for a Matrix with that many miles? I plan on just using it for the next few years and then selling it once I graduate. Would you say that's not a bad idea? Or should I be careful considering how it has over 100k miles?

      Cris K hi, thank you for your comment! To have an idea about the price, I always check the craigslist.org and www.kbb.com/toyota/matrix/2007/sport-wagon-4d/?vehicleid=84291&intent=trade-in-sell&mileage=160000&pricetype=private-party&condition=good&options=6360898|true also. I think $3,300 is a normal price if this car is without big issues. But I think you can get it for around $3,000. As you can see from the link on Kbb.com, the average price for this car is around $3,400 which is in real world usually a little bit less.

    • @AtomicCarReview
      @AtomicCarReview  5 років тому +2

      Cris K even Toyota with this mileages is unpredictable, but most of them are very reliable. Check the areas which I showed in the video to avoid big investment at the beginning. But you never know what can happen tomorrow. I saw some of them with 300k and also saw with transmission or engine problem around 150k mileage.

      Avoid the 2.4l engines. They have a design flaw with the piston rings and will burn oil around 80k. Toyota knew of the problem but instead of a recall only issued a mechanical warning. Owners were offered the repair but it wasn't a grand announcement. If you know the previous owner and they have paperwork proving the repair.... buy it . if not... avoid it

I'm mainly looking for wagons or a Toyota Sienna, but I had a look at a Toyota Matrix which brought me here! Thanks for the video, I'll sub and check out your other inspections, there's a lot to learn here!

    Hi buddy. At 2:40 minutes, excuse me but how do you fix the oil leak?

    • @AtomicCarReview
      @AtomicCarReview  5 років тому +1

      Thank you for your comment and a question! That's the common problem with the 1.8L Toyota engine. Usually, Toyota has the leak in the back of the engine from timing chain tensioner. You can fix it by replacing O-ring or the gasket (depends on design) or if you put some silicon sealer. That's pretty easy to do and you can do it from the top or bottom of the car. I added some links with different designs to give you the idea how it looks and how to fix this problem. ( ua-cam.com/video/EtImRwTrL20/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/biEEvCPvOyU/v-deo.html) Thank you!

    5-speed manual transmission is very weak (C59). The output shaft bearings go bad really quick, causing complete transmission failure. Mine left me stranded on the 5fwy during a traffic when it was 110,000 miles despite me changing the oil every 35,000 miles. I replaced it with a Celica gts transmission 6speed manual from the same year (04), and it now has 288,000 miles without a problem. No oil leaks! I'm sure the transmission problem was resolved in the 05-08 models.
