Well I hope you learned something. Next time a stuck engine comes in.. for God's sake put Ralphie on that thing First! Save yourself all that work & just supervise. 😂😂 great video! 👍
Transmission oil in the cylinders works great, pull the plugs and fill up. Let it sit for a while, and turn it over using the crankshaft bolt. The cylinders need lubrication. Great video, and a blessing of a family. Keep up the great videos.
Glad to see it broke loose! Vinegar is a good go to, the muriatic acid seemed a little extreme but still works! If you had brakes and a clutch, I would have tried to “pop start” it and see if it would come free. Hope to see more content soon!
The vinegar looked like it did absolutely nothing being a water based liquid. It just sat on the grease. Should have tried gumout. Some kind of hot , hot solvent.
Your going to have to bore that block maybe 30 or 40 over to clear up those cylinders so you will get maximum compression or it’s not going to have any power and will sling oil out of the exhaust if it will even build enough cylinder pressure to even run. It’s worth doing if you ask me because that’s definitely a going to town car for your family.
That is if it can be bored , some of the cylinders may have too much rust . If more than one or two need sleeved then it would be better to find another block .
I loved this video. I'm working on freeing an engine. And this was wonderful entertainment. So proud to see a dad and his kids doing this. A lifetime of memories for those children. Excellent excellent parenting.
Hey sleeper dude your son Ralph is going to make a great mechanic one day! We just love your show and your beautiful family! Vinegar is one of the best cleaners there is! Grandfather bought a locked up Farmall tractor. Put a socket, breaker bar and a ten foot pipe on the crankshaft with several hundred pounds of iron on the end of the pipe. Oiled the cylinders and walked away. Three weeks later all the iron was laying on the ground. Time, pressure, leverage and a bit of oil mixed with kerosene broke it loose. Just another weapon in an arsenal of tricks to use if all else fails. Good job on the video.

Well done! For better and faster results, you should degrease the bores before you add your vinegar. Otherwise, the oil blocks most of the vinegar from reaching the rust. Vinegar still works with greasy bores, but takes much longer and is less effective. When you have rusty bores, the rust you can see isn't really the problem; you can brush and hone that away. It's the rust you couldn''t see that was locking up the motor. Phosphoric acid works quicker and better than vinegar. As you've already discovered, muratic acid also desolves rust, but it also tends to dissolve any alloy (eg, pistons). It's easier to neutralize acid with baking soda if you dissolve the soda in boiling water first. But well done, you put the effort in and got the result :)
Do you have any suggestions on a 3.4l Toyota engine that has sat for 3yrs and the rings are rusted. It will turn over fine it just sounds crazy with no compression. I tried ATF & acetone mix with no luck. It seems like everything just seeps past the rings into the crankcase before it has a chance to work. I haven't tried white vinegar or industrial vinegar. Just hoping I can find someone out there that can help me save this engine. Thanks.
@@dgmenace73 First you need to check the engine bores with a borescope to check that the valves aren't bent or the pistons damaged. If they're okay, you must degrease the engine, or the rust remover won't be able to get to the rust. Remove the spark plugs and DON'T replace them until the job is complete, or you may hydraulic the engine. Detergent foam coming out the spark plug holes is okay. Then lightly spray phosphoric acid, Evapo-Rust or vinegar through the spark plug holes. Lightly turn the engine over to ensure an even spread. Leave phosphoric acid for maybe 12 hours, Evapo-Rust or vinegar for maybe 24-72 hours.Keep the bores wet with rust remover at all times or the rust remover will stop working. Then spray a small amount of water into the bores to remove the rust remover and gently turn the engine over by hand. Then wet the bores again and spin the engine over on the starter until crap stops coming out the spark plug holes. Repeat several times. Then spray in some penetrating oil and turn the engine over on the starter motor until crap stops spraying out the plug holes. Repeat this several times. Drain the engine oil and replace it. Then replace the spark plugs and use engine starter to start the engine. Good luck.
@Clive Matthew-Wilson thank you.....I actually had watched so many videos that I had decided to at least try exactly what you said. Anything i have tried already didn't get a chance because there was still oil on the rings. I think this just may very well work and I plan on recording the processes. I already had regular vinegar and some of the 45% I think is what it is. Someone else mentioned to heat the rust remover and any oil to 145° since heat makes metal expand as well as makes detergents clean better. Sounds reasonable to me? I will let you know if this works and let me know if anything I just mentioned is a waste of time or a bad idea ( like heating the chemicals up some). Thanks for replying.
Looks like it was a really tough one! My favorite things to try were covered right off...a 2x4 and a heavy Tonya Harding, followed by muriatic acid (!) I was going to suggest Kroil, and Evaporust too. Probably the next step now, since the acid will eat up the pistons anyhow, would be a 0.040" overbore, or better yet an FE transplant!

I have a stuck 289 in my Mustang. I'm going to try a 50/50 mix of trans fluid and acetone. I doubt it will break loose, and I've really got way too much going on to spend time on it, but it's worth a shot. Once again, great video.
I drove a 64 country squire wagon for 18 years and it was 11 yrs old when I bought it. Loved it..had to get rid because it was frame damaged and going down.
Cool video, keep in mind 3rd gear gives you the most power and muriatic acid dissolves aluminum really not good for the Pistons. Check online for a product called Gibbs it's a high penetrant rust dissolver and will loosen most engines after it sets a few days, I think the engine might run but it's probably going to use a lot of oil unless you rebuild it
I'm glad someone else mentioned this. I kept thinking "why don't they put it in 3rd?" In the end, the breaker bar probably had even more torque though.

I love how these videos are a family activity, fantastic! Just started watching your videos last week and subscribed this week. I personally think if you try to run it the way it is the pistons will shatter. The structural integrity of them is compromised from the acid. Rebuild and save that little 289 powerhouse. Grew up with parents owning station wagons and I grew fond of them. Does that one have the rumble seat?
Another great video! I love the Ralphie power! Keep up the great work. I would be curious as well to see if it would run with the current bottom end condition. Of course probably going to use a little oil. Lol 👍
Your kids are like mine at that age always helping in the shop made them my apprentices. All are great mechanics now, even my daughter who's also a nurse anesthetist.my 2 boys amaze me every day. Youngest Dusty is an ASE certified diesel Firetruck/refueler mechanic in the Air Force.
this will need at very minimum: New Sleeves and new pistons... and valve seating work... at this point it would be better to get an engine from the junkyard
I'm all in with Ralphy's idea: set it on fire! If it don't come loose, you (and we) at least have an awesome bonfire 🙂 Admire your persistence and the way you fixed this as a family. And what a glorious moment for Ralphy breaking that thing loose.
just stumbled on this video, and I got say, I enjoyed it, like seeing who family interacting, kids getting hands dirty, just good old family right here, thanks.
I've become convinced your bride is as nuts as you are, especially after she bought da pickup. Now alarmingly passing da sickness to da chirrens. I really enjoy your videos, very refreshing to watch family love in action.
Why don't you stick it in gear and drag the wagon with the Winnie, it might break the engine loose for you. Edit: I see now you tried that. Congrats on the giant lever welded onto the crank pulley idea.
Great job guys especially He Man Ralphie saving the day. I enjoy car restoration videos and bringing back old long forgotten vehicles back to life. You wouldn't happen to have a caribbean turquoise 1965 Ford F250 lying in a field somewhere would you? My dad had one..a custom cab camper special with a nice slide in truck camper. I like the fact that the family is all involved in the project
Thank you
Great job ralphy 👍💪😜
Thank you
great job mates looking forward to see the old wagon running
Thank you
Sou do Brasil e gosto desse canal !!! Esses carros são do tempo que se fazia carro fazendo mesmo !!!
achei o brasileiro kkk
@@RaimarLunardi e isso aí !!! Valeu 👍 amigão 👍
"I'm from Brazil and I really enjoyed this channel this kind of cars are from back when they used to make real cars" - Gerbson
Looking forward to you guys getting the engine back together and getting it started
Me too thank you
Been looking forward to this one love your videos 😁😁😁💟
Thank you really appreciate it
😁😁😁😁👍
Love that you involved your family. I can see in another few years your kids will be headed to the drag strip Mixin' it up!!!! Thanx! I have a stuck engine...I hope not as bad as this one !!
Ole Puddin has used vinegar twice to free up an engine successfully.
That’s awesome. It does clean well I think we were just too rusted
Love a good science experiment! That gray lava was something else.
Yeah it was crazy
Just need a Ralphie...Amen, good job son. Ralphie power!
Yeah he did good
I love how these videos are a family activity, fantastic!
That’s awesome thank you for subscribing, yes it has a 3rd seat
I really enjoy your videos. You include your family in them and the pets. Always entertaining to watch.
Thank you really appreciate it
Another great video! I love the Ralphie power! Keep up the great work. I would be curious as well to see if it would run with the current bottom end condition. Of course probably going to use a little oil. Lol 👍
Thank you, I agree
Your kids are like mine at that age always helping in the shop made them my apprentices. All are great mechanics now, even my daughter who's also a nurse anesthetist.my 2 boys amaze me every day. Youngest Dusty is an ASE certified diesel Firetruck/refueler mechanic in the Air Force.
That’s awesome
That old camper runs good
Yes can’t wait to fix the interior
Ralphie and his PB blaster is what did the trick good job lil man!
Maybe so!
Yes it did
this will need at very minimum: New Sleeves and new pistons... and valve seating work...
at this point it would be better to get an engine from the junkyard
Maybe so
If so a Windsor 351 might fit
Thanks again for sharing your work and time. We always enjoy your videos. I'm going to sit back and watch. Then pass it on.
Thank you
I'm all in with Ralphy's idea: set it on fire! If it don't come loose, you (and we) at least have an awesome bonfire 🙂 Admire your persistence and the way you fixed this as a family. And what a glorious moment for Ralphy breaking that thing loose.
Yes couldn’t believe Ralphie did it .. thanks for watching
just stumbled on this video, and I got say, I enjoyed it, like seeing who family interacting, kids getting hands dirty, just good old family right here, thanks.
Ralph is quite capable of doing this job if he had any idea of what you are doing
True
Great effort on the different methods of bustin her loose, way to go Ralphie, RC colas and viennyas all around!! 😎
Thank you
Why not put the 5.0 from the fairmont in the wagon!
It might end up there
Great family affair. Awesome seeing you got it broke loose. Actually didn't think it would so great to see it done. Cannot wait for further details.
Thank you. Yes I didn’t think it would either
Not bad bro. Not bad at all.
Thank you
@@Sleeperdude Sure thing. You're welcome.
I've become convinced your bride is as nuts as you are, especially after she bought da pickup. Now alarmingly passing da sickness to da chirrens. I really enjoy your videos, very refreshing to watch family love in action.
You may be right thanks for watching
Why don't you stick it in gear and drag the wagon with the Winnie, it might break the engine loose for you.
Edit: I see now you tried that. Congrats on the giant lever welded onto the crank pulley idea.
Yeah we try that too
Great job guys especially He Man Ralphie saving the day. I enjoy car restoration videos and bringing back old long forgotten vehicles back to life. You wouldn't happen to have a caribbean turquoise 1965 Ford F250 lying in a field somewhere would you? My dad had one..a custom cab camper special with a nice slide in truck camper. I salute you for getting the entire family involved and the enthusiasm you all have. People need to get off their phones and mobile devices and get outdoors and do stuff like this family...myself included lol. Cheers mate!
Thank you
Arnold Schwarzenegger got nothing on you RALPHIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💪👍🙏
🤣🤣🤣
I say throw the heads an intake back and crank it! I enjoy this channel so much. What a great family.👍👍
I am wanting to
“Wreck it Ralph”
Good job breaking that engine loose young man!
