FREAKNIK RETURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*FREAKNIK FESTIVAL 2019 DOCUMENTARY (LINK BELOW)*
ua-cam.com/video/demJa30NkmE/v-deo.html
The highways were packed !!! Everyone would wave at each other!!! And say where you from?
Background music was too loud. Made it hard to hear some of the people talking.
This is way better than the glorified Hulu one.
met my husband at Freaknik right on Peachtree by Underground. 21 years later and two kids later.
rachellebolden are y'all still married??
Wow...I did not.
Still together
rachellebolden Wow! Look at y'all congrats
wow omg ! God Bless && Jesus Bless You Both && Your Family Members && You All AMENNNN !!!!
I would love to hear a female point of view on FreakNik.
Zaria Lumsden yesss absolutely
Yes because I know that was scary for them but if my friend getting grabbed I'm running muthafuckers over something to help! Then guy saying he's not saving no one at 33:02 is a bitch frfr
There's a freaknik True Life episode look it up, it has female perspective as well
Idk how this ended up on my UA-cam suggestions but we in here 💺 🍿 👀
Odane Bennett same! Now i can’t click off! 😂
😂😂 🤦🏽♂️ say cuz, my take exactly. I’m a late 80s baby so I came for some understanding. Pass the popcorns
Seein the girls snatched out their cars broke my heart
Angela Solomon imma nigga myself and it’s hurting me to see 🤦🏾♂️ my pops and uncles used to go down there from saint Louis I hope they wasn’t on no shit like this
Angela Solomon I’m crying rn yo smh
I know, I woulda had to do a Warren G and Regulate if I saw some shit like that 😤 BTW you're beautiful
They didn't touch on the explosion of STDs that came with FreakNik. My aunt was an RN that worked with the CDC and she told me how the number of syphlillis, gonarhea, herpes and HIV/AIDS infections went through the roof during those times. A lot of people left FreakNik with those 'life time' gifts
TheXIIIth all facts! I know this kid whose 22yrs old now but his momma is from Atlanta and she was apart of this in the early days... She don't know who her sons father is either smh. Product of "I'm just tryna kick it at the freaknik"
Leroy Leeman - That has to be tough
I never went never wanted to go and it's sad that some of these hoes are proud of this mess smh I guess having aids is koo and infecting an innocent child and not knowing who the daddy is is alright to smh what a sad thing to me
TheXIIIth I believe it
THEY never WANT TO touch on any subject where it makes black women and men look NASTY
It's crazy how we as a people orchestrated an actual festival with events and scenes by word of mouth and with no sponsorship
Joshua Martinez Yes! True!
Right! No social media back then!
the anxiety I would've gotten being in that kind of environment
😂😂
Naima Ismail too many people with too much going on
Before I let a dude drag my friend out the car, I’m hitting the gas and hitting whoever nearby or I’m grabbing the strap. These dudes were out of control!
I always wondered why freaknik was a thing of the past ... now I know. It’s sad that a picnic primarily for students studying at HBCU’s evolved into a breeding ground for senseless violence.
Just like Jones Beach in NYC, before the ghetto got word of it. Just like Facebook before the world out word of it. Y’all wonder why theirs secret societies because you can’t let everyone know what you got going on
Everyone here from twitter lmao!! do we all agree this doesn’t need to be brung back!?
Yup
Nope. Too many sexual assaults happened men don’t know how to control themselves
I attended FreakNik for several years, and as a Black man, even though I already had this perspective for our women, FreakNik only helped to give me a greater perspective, for how diverse our women are/were, when it came/comes to how physically appealing our women can be, in a natural state, and I know it will probably never return to that, but that needs to make a comeback, the stressing of natural beauty.
Now I know how dudes who danced on, and attended Soul Train in L.A. felt, FreakNik was like that, multiplied by 100,000, all the different shapes, all the different sizes, all the different complexions, that make up our women. I know that likely, I will probably never be in the presence of so many fine Black women again at once, in my lifetime, but at least I can die knowing that I did experience it, at least once...
S. Chris T.
Yeah, we all had beautiful, natural bodies back then (i still do lol).
No1Goddess Lol, hey, good for you, like Tupac said, "I Ain't Mad At Cha"...
Some say there are still Freaknik attendees stuck in Atlanta traffic til this day
Spike Lee need to gather some coin and make a Freaknik motion picture
J IV that part!!
Better call John Singleton because we all know Spike wouldn't do that!
I wonder when people are going to discuss the correlation between Atlanta Freaknik & today’s Atlanta STD rate... because I SINCERELY believe that a lot of the new cases came from back then. I wish I could talk about this deeper but I digress.
Can never happen again, all this social media can't have fun like that anymore without being put on blast on FB IG or Snapchat 🤷🏽♀️
so true...
Very true
I’m sure it can happen. Just hold the rape & sexual assaults.
So I’m not the only who got this in my recommendation?
Letrice Allia random as hell? Yup
Letrice Allia no ma’am 😂😂
I see the whole gang is here
Shit you fine enough to be at freaknic 95 sexy ass girl shit
Niggas can front all they want.... If you from NY like me.... YOU FOREVER WANTED TO MAKE IT TO A FREAKNIK. The hype was real.
SDS Overfiend Exactly, I respect you keepin' it 100. I don't think we really understand the magnitude, and the significance of what FreakNik was, and I'm not gonna' touch on any of the negative aspects of it, of course, that's unfortunate. However, before then, up until today, and probably for the rest of time, there will never be another Black orientated event that large, located in one city, like FreakNik, on U.S. soil again.
The powers that be, have made up their minds, to never allow that sort of congregation of our people, to ever happen again. But you're right, the hype was tremendous, it was something that you had to make an effort to go to, and if you didn't make it, and you were told of, and/or saw evidence of what was going on, it only made you wanna' get to the next one even more. Well eventually, the next one was no more, but if you ever did attend one, you know that you witnessed something historic, that you'll never see again, an you'll never forget it...
I felt like in the video they were victim blaming, more than shaming the men that did the sexual assaults. They kept alluding to how women were dressed.
Jocelyn Cothren dude that’s what they were pointing out, how the documentary was more blaming the victims based on what they were wearing, instead of the men. They were pointing out that the documentary was wrong in doing that.
Jocelyn Cothren no but there are consequences to everything you do. What you put out there is what you get back
@@protected3798 yeah because rape and sexual assault is a great consequence for dressing in shorts and a crop top.
Shanell Ruthless that’s why I be telling black men to stop dressing like thugs so they won’t get shot... 🙄😒
@@protected3798 clothes do not equal consent
I went in 1996 when it was officially unofficial. They had the exits blocked so went went up the off ramps. Got to the top of the exit, busted a quick u-turn and stopped at the gas station. Got out the car and the first thing we saw is a nigga tearin' a girl shirt off. And what she do, run straight to us. Aww shit! I let her get in the car. Now it's 6 of them and 3 of us, instant L but we worked it out. You know how scared you gotta be to jump in some stranger's car running from another stranger? BTW she was from Atlanta, just walking to the store. We fuck everything up!
wow that's terrible
I've always wanted to go, but never did. The problem is not with the young men and women who went to enjoy themselves. The sexual harassment and assaults that happened should of never happened. I'm not sure if these things were even reported to police.
Just know that the men that violated these women during this time, it was definitely not their last time doing this. That's why they shut this mess down. No matter what a woman wears it doesn't mean a man has a right to violate her.
Amen sis! 💯 I'm a millennial (born in 1983), but even if I were of age at that time I NEVER would've gone to Freaknik! It was absolute trash! The way women were treated was despicable!
Rape scene aint cool, glad this shit over with. To bring it back would only draw more shame on the culture
Keyse Pulliam this generation couldn’t even handle a damn freeknik!
Back then rapist felt safe, hopefully in 2019 we would step and and make sure they don't feel at home doing that shit infront of real niggas
who's here from twitter?
🙌🏽
yep
Yup
who else is here after seeing this all over twitter?
i wish they wouldve spoke more on womens pov during freaknik
You should have had a women’s point of view of freaknik
La diabla right not one single woman spoke in this video crazy
the guy who did the doc said all the females he reached out never responded
You don't know anything about Freaknik anyway. FKN transplant...
When I was a teen in the 90's living in New Orleans, I kept hearing people talking about freak nik. So I go home to my older brother who was preparing to go and asked him what it was all about. He gave me the stare of death, grabbed me and said to never let him hear me speak of it again. Scared me to death. The way people talked about it, I thought it was one big orgy. Looks about right. lol!
Nola DH I feel you. I was born in 83 in Detroit and my big brother would go. So to find out that it started with the college kids is crazy!!! Nobody I knew that went ever thought about it college. They were all street dudes
Right! I was born on 82 and I'm just finding out that it started as a college thing too.
My older sis graduated high school in 1996 and she said she was going here and my dad slapped her👋💥💫
bricbrac28 lol kudos her father don't play that crap hang around no good ass busy body people
Seeing them women getting pulled out of cars did something to me ☹️
Brooke Bowie me too 😭
The good old days when black men and women weren't spending all their free time berating each other over social media!
Lmao everybody just got this in their feed 😂. UA-cam is funny as hell.
Erin, aka CaramelChameleon def was in my recommendations 😂😂😂😂
giiiiiiiiiirl i thught it was only facebook apparently youtube be watching to this was first in my recommendations
Yh....🤔🤔🤔
came here to see what the hype was about back then and saw my mama on here smh
Brian Kearney 💀💀
😭😭😭😭
Came from twitter to check this shit out 💀
Atlanta went from freaknik to gaynik
El_Trapo 252 that's because all them people came from other places. y'all be hatting on my City.
El_Trapo 252 😂😂😂
Omg 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂
Ppl don’t even party like this anymore unless it’s a group of friends n associates at house party or mutual event
We need this energy back 😩
Would have loved to hear a woman's perspective in this documentary.
Pernisha G. I thoroughly enjoyed Freaknik! It was fun when it first began but starting 1995 and 1996 it got really violent. You had people attending that weren’t in college, were teenagers trying to prove something and drug dealers.
"Want a cheap chick? Better go down to Freaknik!" ~ Lil' Kim
😘
This was just in my recommendations.. but damn it’s a bunch of y’all from Twitter
Just imagine if the Internet was BIG back then🤪... the older generation wanna talk about our generation on social media. BUT females back then was doing what we doing now. The only thing is there was NO SOCIAL MEDIA BACK THEN🤷🏽♀️
yep we were getting it in thank god no social media lol!
Taniyah Wiliams u telling the gospel truth
I would've liked to have heard more of the female's perspective.
Young Revenue Yeah that wouldve been an important part of the story but Im pretty sure a lot of women were actually College Students & have long since disassociated themselves with Freaknik...
Tony Micheaux and you sound like you are a female, a simp, or a mangina.
Either way you are just another product of the destruction that came out of a female-dominant community from the 1970s onward.
willia3r
^^^.......................whoa!!
Watching the assault on those chicks was very disturbing... Thanking God that my mom didn't allow me to ever attend that event... I am so appreciative for her talking sense into my young dumb self at 18. I was so adamant about going, I remember my mom asking where was I going to stay when I got there and I told her that my friend and I were just going to sleep in the car. We had no money and no plan, we just knew we wanted to get there Smh. Thank God my mom put the breaks on my young dumbass.. Thank you sooo much mom.
NickyR Moms be saving us when we listen. Thank God you listened. I can’t imagine how scared those girls were being raped in a sea of thirsty men with no one to help 😭😭
After seeing all of the sexual assault, you guys STiLl would want to go?! Wow 🤯
StayFaithful There would be about 10 cases that night
Yeah cos I'm not a sexual assaulted and I would G check any fuck boy I see abusing a girl unlike that punk in the video. Freak I'm was good its just that bad people eventually felt they can feel safe there
Did everyone come here from Twitter
A kid name Ed what’s on Twitter? I saw this on UA-cam trending
thatlovegirl12 a lot of people were talking about it on Twitter last night I think it would’ve really been fun to go around 93-94
This documentary could've been better if they added WOMEN'S VOICES AND PERSPECTIVES. The primary draw of Freaknik was the women. I would like to know how women felt about Freaknik, how they picked their outfits, did their hair, their mindset going into the event and what THEY got out of it. Also around the turning point in the doc when women were getting raped and it became more and more sexually violent (around 32:22) that would've been a good time to include womens voices to really balance out the documentary -- to show why it got out of control and eventually shut down. The documentary is really one-sided, from the "playa's" or man's perspective. Also the audio quality was up and down, the background music drowned out some of their voices, and added with the thick southern drawl it makes it hard to understand what they're saying a lot of times. Good documentary and social document, though, just could've been even better with a few tweaks.
True
Dang.. Look at everybody having fun..WITHOUT A PHONE!
Bonez 3rdWorld bc most them were sexually assaulting girls
“It went from something pure and innocent to just straight ‘WHAT THE HELL?’”
That’s pretty accurate!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
"Freaknik was a college thing. Somehow the hood got wind of it"😂
When butts was real 😂😂😂 man I wish we could go back to the 90s
MsJordan311 when you find a time machine let me know i got snaps on the petro
MsJordan311 Lmao! Truth
Shit eat some cornbread lol make your butt fat instead put silicone injection you don't want that
remember them dayz
(SNAPS ON THE PETRO)
..........................................geah!!
Twitter didn't bring me here. Just stumbled on it. I remember hearing about the freaknik's when I was younger
Some of this was consensual, but a large portion of this shit was just textbook sexual assault, even for the 90s.
Noir Simmer Absolutely
Idk why this was suggested to me but I'm guessing UA-cam is trying to tell me something about my mom that I don't know 🤔🤔
tatiana craig girl my momma met my daddy at the FreakNit 😂😂 don’t be alarmed
What’s good black twitter 🗣😂
😂
I went Freaknik '95.. And it was crazy as hell. I enjoyed myself but my crew and I were tame and more conscious of our surroundings and stayed away from the BS!!
Yup! '95 was my first Freaknik and I had no business there. I was in high school but that shit was epic!!!!!
@@UhhhAreyouok lol. It was Lit
I was there in '95
Just making sure I don’t see my momma and her friends 🤣🤣
Monet Williams bro🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm saying....
Monet Williams 😂😂😂
I seen something on twitter about these and now this is in my recommendations 👀 .
Same
Tonye Hayes same
Would have loved to hear from a woman’s perspective.
Fiona Obas there were a lot of sexual assaults happening during these events
I bet a lot of rapes happened. Smh
I am from Atlanta, I graduated high school in 1995. The kids from my high school who went would come back telling stories. A lot of the guys would talk about how many girls were raped.
FreakNik wouldn’t even last half the day or night now days, it’ll be a shootout 🤦🏽♀️
Keanna and too many rape cases
Keanna I was thinking the same thing
Well we see when it happen in Alt when uncle luke throw his.
Sae E yes way too many and people getting away with it
keyona Jones it’s gone be a dead deal
You wanna cheap chick, betta go down to freaknik ~Lil Kim 😅
True Story. I moved to Atlanta after attending FreakNik and stayed for 12 years.
A Harris a classmate went and never came back to school
Dina, what happened to that classmate? Lo and behold!
A Harris so how is that move working out for you?
I'm scanning real hard to make sure my cousins or aunties ain't in here somewhere acting up lol
lmaooo
Just seen 2 of my aunts😂😂😂🤦🏾♀️
R u serious?
@@Geminidurham very
twitter sent me here too lol HOWEVER them dudes SNATCHING those women out of cars really gave me goosebumps like you can hear them screaming stop and none of the other girls tried to help bc they would've did the same to them! that was waaaay to far and how the world and generation is now we could never have this again unfortunately
Jade Breaux very scary
I wouldn’t ever allow myself to go to no shit like that
yey its happening this year
Jade Breaux Thats why some of them started carrying razor blades or guns.
I went in 96 & got stuck on peachtree for 4 hours! Everyone around me and my girlfriends were respectful and was just enjoying the atmosphere.
Those were the days when people really danced. (google 90's dances) The music made sense. The women were natural. Today, all they do is twerk, the music is trash & the plastic surgeries along with photo editing, have no one looking like they should.
Look at everybody mamma 🤣
This why many men do NOT respect women and show us the highest regard. I find that more latino & white men give me more respect & open doors, etc than a black man will.
Imagine having snap chat back then
Im 30 and lord don’t let my momma be in these tapes 😩😩😩😩
All these natural bodies and no weaves 😍😍😍
Tamacia Warren you not into weaves?
King 27 I'm into ppl doing anything to make themselves happy. It's just refreshing to see women with normal bodies and real hair without tons of makeup.
Tamacia Warren much love there
BEAUTY truly defined!!! ❤
😘
Texted my mom and asked her if she attended 😭, I said what is this??? she said “😳😳” 😂😂😂
Dai'Sha yo momma was ran thru
kicksh1t lol watch your mouth. she was w my father anyway.😂
Dai'Sha “ya moms a ho”
Dai'Sha so did i 😂😂😂
Twitter been raving bout this. Needa see what the hype bout
Mannnnnnn I HATED that I was too young to go. Freaknik was at its height when I was 15/16...then it just kind of disappeared, but it was like this mythical fucking party that I couldn't go to!!!
lil kim said "WANT A CHEAP CHICK? BETTA GO DOWN TO FREAKNIK" so she did not take no dress tips from dat. they got it from her
all can think about is heavy HIV and Aids are in Atlanta and this night just be the reason why
Tayla Johnson lmao
It was planted
How is start from African to affect the total Atlanta population where the cdc is located smh
I see Twitter brought damn near everyone here lol
😂
This must be why it’s on my recommended lol
Sad, it started off as a way for college-aged blacks to get together and have fun, but it got nastier and nastier because a lot of hoes, silly niggas and money messed it up. Then it wasn't even safe or fun anymore.
One truth about the Black woman...take off makeup, false lashes, designer clothes...and you STILL see a beautiful woman. No other woman from another race can match this natural beauty nor keep up.
Star Mac you lied . Spanish women is the same but they prettier . especially my Dominicans 😍😍😘❤
Gettin ToDaGuap in your dreams bitch
Ladii Bunni that's exactly why black women are ugly to me because of that . calling me a " bitch " and shit . how u expect to get a man saying shit like that . y'all black women needed stop being so manly and act like a women shit . after the 60/70's black women went down hill but them PR&DR women stayed true 💪👌👌🙏✊💯💯💯💯💯💯
Ladii Bunni if that's what u think then fuck it I guess . ima still stick wit my Dominicano mami's ya feeeel mee 🙌🙌😋😛💯💯💯💯💦
Gettin ToDaGuap we supposed to care a sum??? 😐
i went from watching a documentary about slavery and discrimination to landing on this....smh
Sound Therapy 😂😂
all I see is 90s fashion inspiration so bomb!
Say what you may...I am from Atl..and I attended the very first Freaknic and all of them thru 96...this was Our culture so put some respect on it!!
I’m lookin too hard for my mother 🤦🏽♀️

This hulu documentary about to have all yall aunties assed out and I'm here for it.
Exactly they all in the church now. Lol
😂😂😂😂
And daddies , uncles, deacons
@@DivineKnows you know half of the people at freaknik are all apart of the church now 🤦🏾😂.
@@blackcommunion3820 I see why most of them had the holy ghost when they had there deliverance. They did some demonic shit in the past. Wonder why churches are losing the youths.
My first experience with Freaknik was in the Spring of 1996, when I was a freshman at Bauder College in Buckhead, and was wondering why there was a traffic jam in front of my dorm on Peachtree Rd. Once they found out it was mostly an all-girl school (at that time), traffic came to a dead stop. People got out of their cars. I remember an 18-wheeler parked out front in the middle of the road. Campus security was calling the cops due to the number of people that started coming through the gate. People were doing all types of sinful things on the hoods of their cars. Chicks ran back to the dorm rooms and changed clothes. These chicks actually started walking around in lingerie. The cops came and made all of us, the students, go back to our dorms. My virgin eyes were popping out of my head. It was like watching a live porn show right out on the street.
I’m only here because it was on recommended videos...
"you want a cheap chick, you better go down a freaknik"-Lil Kim, "Crush on You"
te4888 never knew what she meant until now. only reason I clicked on the video
Oh the times when butts were real
stayforevertrue very refreshing
I remember seeing the news report showing the video of her top being ripped off. That exact video clip is in the last part of this video. Horrible!!! Traumatizing. Disrespectful. Was there security? Things got out of control. This type of event could not happen on this scale today. The political and social climate is so different now. Unfortunately there are a lot more guns, drugs and violence today.
I feel like a female who went to freaknic should do her perspective of it. Imagine how scary that was for them traffic is back to back police can't even get to u and your getting assault in front of tons of people with no help and the person doesn't even go to school or from there. Wow.
this is why I never went. I am from NY, but live in SC. My mouth would NOT allow random dudes the license to touch me anyway they pleased. STILL CANT!!! I would've been in too many fights
I remember seeing footage of them ripping womens clothes off. One got her clothes shredded while she was with her bf smh it was like 30 against 2
I'm sure most women that went to freaknik in the EARLY 90s would tell you it was one of the best if not the best parties they ever been to
@@chazmetcalf6885 not the ones who were raped
Lol, my momma had me at the Freaknik in 94’ when I was 9! 🤦🏾♀️ I remember this like it was yesterday. People still look at me funny like what’s a Freaknik? I’ll have to write a book one day 🤷🏾♀️
The younger generation of today think that twerking is new....nah' boo it's been going on since the beginning of time.
No we just do it better than y'all did
I’m sorry but the hood ruined freaknik not the city.
Appreciate this! Native Atlantan here. I see Freaknik as the precursor to the Olympics when seeking to understand modern Atlanta’s population growth. I’m 36 and Metro Atlanta has literally tripled in that time, from 86 to now. I enjoyed this so much because I really feel like it showed what made Atlanta attractive to be able to host an event, culturally, like this in the first place. Thanks y’all!
When asses were really corn bread fed!
They should have had a woman from what time explaining the culture for the women point of view
Flex Gawd Orignak that would be a good idea
I'm confused as to why they did not.
The stories from these events need to be adapted into a film screen play or miniseries it would make an interesting 90s black coming of age movie like dope

Jaylen Graves YES!

@@slank_slim_ I rather watch this one on here anyway!!
I'm always so perplexed about the perception of others. I'm from Brooklyn but I went to Spelman. We lived for Freaknik.... No fake booty's and boobs, No I hate black women campaigns, The men looked liked men- not women. It was all fun. However when you read many of the comments they all seem to be negative. People see what they want to see. Yet we didn't see all those brothers n sisters in school ( many seemed to over look that). Now I'm not saying that college students are above reproach neither; and did this event eventually take the turn for the worst- sure just like many other spring break locations/events. However Freaknik wasn't the cause for the high HIV rates in Atlanta or the beginning of the downfall of black women; nor any other disparity mentioned in the comment section....smh I went to freaknik but I'm still a doctor....Geez
Tiffany Elizabeth Exactly!!
Exactly! Everybody went
Artrell Knight Yeah I don't get it. Other races seem to enjoy their spring break. Mexico, Caribbean' islands, etc and they use that as memorable moments. We seem to be the only people who judge one another. Ok some black females/men didn't go to freaknik; Ok so what does that mean they're no different from the people that went. Geez
^^^.........we only discriminate us ....red/blue,cross/kufi,nike/reebok ..etc .....thats that WILLIE LYNCH theme we walkin
.......as for the major DROP in o.u.r people .....concentrated drug epedemics lead to lack ah guidance ..lost of morality ...abandoned generation...
