Moths with Funny Names 4

- Even more funny moths! I’ve been loving everyone’s suggestions and now have an entire notebook that is rapidly filling up with the humorous common names of various moths. I'm more than happy to keep on making these as long as I have good material to work with, so keep them coming!
I turned to the British Moths article in Wikipedia for collecting a lot of these (I'm an American, so many of these moths were unfamiliar to me before), but sadly the English version of Wikipedia doesn't have translated common names for moths in many non-English speaking countries. So let me know in the comments if you have any extra funny moth names in your native language that you want to see in the next installation!

Confusion is extinct? Does this mean that moths live in complete certainty now?
Yeah
Actually some sources say it’s been rediscovered, but the IUCN red list still lists as extinct so yeah still confusing
@@ToughieTheRabbsFringeLimbedTre He's causing confusion even after his extinction, true to his name indeed
There is also another species of moth called the confused, so while the moth that is confused is extinct, the confusion did not
Yes.
the great kidney moth implies that theres just a regular kidney moth and this is its above-average variant
Either that, or this one moth in particular just has great kidneys!
"Feline" that's one strange looking cat. I want 100 of them.
0:12 a yes, the square!
confused moth really went extinct due to confusion, huh
This gave me an idea: group of honorable knights who are called "the moths" because every member has to change their name to the name of a moth species thats assigned to them based off their personality and/or abilities (they aslo wear capes and masks made to look like the wings and head of the moths that they were assigned)
power rangers if it was good
I know this is a moth vid, but I once found a cute lil jumping spider and uploaded pics of it to inaturalist and found out it was simply called "The Murderer" (Opisthoncus necator)
THE MURDERER??? That’s hilarious, what did he do to deserve that?
@hyliaphora-cecropia murder, presumably
this is singlehandedly the best thing I've seen on youtube.
@@hyliaphora-cecropiamurder
i completely lost it at grey square and beautiful golden Y
buff arches is on another level.
That moth's been hitting the gym
Wish I had buffarches
I misread sober tabby as sober baby and went “well I would hope so”
My dumbass read "soccer tabby"

“dark spinach” surely means that other spinach moths exist
"Dark Spinach" and "The Scribbler" gotta be my top picks this time around.
Hello! From another entomology enthusiast I have to say this series is both hilarious and very educational, it's educating about different species and also highlights the peculiarities of taxonomy when choosing vernacular names for different species. So thank you for your efforts 🦋
I'd love to highlight _Creatonotos gangis_ I think those are called the Baphomet Moth because males have some funny pheromone releasing appendages. It's very popular on the internet so it might be a little on the nose but feel free to add it if you want on a future video
Thank you so much! I love moths, so any excuse to make people laugh at them while learning a little is a win in my book! I’m glad you like it!
OH NO, THE MOTH WITH THE ELDRITCH COREMATA!! I never knew their species, but those are insane. Apparently it’s also called the Australian Horror Moth (as it should be lmao). Thank you for reminding me of this wacky lil guy, I’ll definitely use him in the future
@@hyliaphora-cecropia Hello again and thank you for accepting my suggestion! Both names for _C. gangis_ are scary sounding enough so choose whichever suits you ^-^
Also, "coremata" that's the correct term I was looking for, I've learnt something new! :)
the cosmopolitan looks like it has an eye on its back
I got jumpscared by the bug fables music-
COCKSFOOT??? DUDE IM LITERALLY SO IMMATURE THAT GOT ME GIGGLING
Exiled Dagger sounds like the title of a Dark Souls/Elden Ring character
And without context "Skin Moth" sounds terrifying
I found a moth field guide this week and actually found The Scribbler in the wild before this video even came out!!! I’m so happy it was included, although the photo in my book was much more menacing
How cool!
"Do I look like a feline to you?"
Also, look at dem buff arches the moth has!
You can’t forget the lovely juniper pug.
the scribbler moth is one of our nicknames
“Skin moth” sounds like something from a vita carnis-esque analogue horror
Sounds like a villain The DARK Spinach
Great Kidney?! The klezmer music is adorable.
I can’t get over “Great Kidney” and “Beautiful Golden Y” at 0:10 and 0:13 😂

What crimes has the exiled dagger done to be exiled?
I like moths still 👍

Don't know if you've done this one, but another moth you could add is dasypodia selenophora, which is also called the 'southern old lady moth' :)
HAHAHAHA no I haven’t, that’s hilarious! And wow, that’s a pretty looking moth too! Thanks lmao
PLEASE OMG I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THE “LITTLE VIRGIN TIGER” AND THE “GIRLFRIEND” MOTHS 😭
The dude responsible for naming moths must be stopped it looks like he's making a league of evil little moths with weird names
How does this get better with every part?
The skin moth sounds like it lives in people’s skin
You'll never guess what the Skin Moth eats :)
I swear that in one of the previous videos there was a Moth which had "Dagger" as a name.
And now we have the exiled dagger.
This implies that other types of dagger may exist.
Beatiful Golden Y also imolies the existence of a Ugly Golden Y.
There are actually a lot of moth names that include the word dagger-moths in the genus Acronicta are commonly called dagger moths! A lot of them have pretty humorous common names (the common name of Acronicta retardata for example lmao)
@@hyliaphora-cecropia Imagine an assasin instaed of Daggers, throw moths
This seems like the type of shitpost to be uploaded in 2016 or so and be randomly recommended to people 8 years later, and I’m loving it.
All i know i seen a wooly bear moth in person.
Ooh, the Isabella Tiger Moth! Those are really cool, plus their caterpillars, the wooly bears, are really distinct
Rip Confused Moth though
Some sad ones eg Levuana moths are also depressing
Also, I got some funny candidates:
Pikachu moth
Common footmen
Sallow/Alder/Poplar Kitten
The scribblerrr

How did this whole series even start
I bought a Peterson’s Field Guide to moths and noticed that some of the moths had really, really goofy names, so I went through the field guide and put sticky notes on the funniest ones. It was like an inside joke between my sister and I for a while. When I started this channel, I originally planned on using it for the gaming animations/memes that I make, but decided that making a moth shitpost wouldn’t hurt and…it blew up. Since people seem to like the funny moths (and I like learning about the funny moths!), I made it into a series
The next step is to draw your interpretation of why the reason a moth is called what it is
not a moth, but: there is an extinct animal named Crash bandicoot.
CRASH BANDICOOT IS ITS SCIENTIFIC NAME!?!?!?
NOOOO WHY'D THEY NAME IT THAT?? This is worse than the Sonic Hedgehog protein lmaoooo
The skin moth sounds a bit.. *ominous*
Youll never guess what they eat :D
