The Hardest Thing To Do in Bass Fishing (Decision Making)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 чер 2024
- After fishing a Bassmaster Open on Lake Hartwell I decided to do an extensive overview of how many tournament went and why I choose to fish the way I did. Lots of factors went into this decision and I show you from practice, to the tournament, and after on how it went down. These are going to be a series I do explaining what's in my head and how to view an overall body of water before fishing it.

I like hearing about the whole journey and not just the fish catches. Theres a story to be told behind every video and you dont get everything when you just show the catches. Great video.
I appreciate that! more to come
Great video brother. Watching them all from here in Azle, TX on Eagle Mountain Lake. In the video, everytime you said the light switch went off, your 1st light out of 3 above your bar in the kitchen would go off when you snapped your fingers. I'm loving it Homie!!@.
Great video. Finding fish is my weakness. This insite to your thought process could really help me. Thanks
Love the video Todd, gives great insight into the tourney thought processes and decisions. So much better than just fish catching videos, keep ‘em coming and good luck!
You bet!
Great video Todd, thanks for sharing your tournament breakdown. Can't wait for the next one.
You bet
Awesome video Todd! I enjoy your videos anyways but this was very informative and I really appreciate you taking the time to break it down this way for us!
My pleasure!
Awesome video. You are one of the few that addresses the mental side of figuring them out.
Love how happy you look making your videos! Keep it up please! You have a great following that absolutely loves your content.
👍
Love it! Enjoy hearing the thought process and eliminating water.
Yes! Thank you!
Good insights Todd. Thx for sharing.
Welcome
Great video Todd. Love the real life thoughts and perspectives. 🎣
I appreciate that!
So glad to listen and watch your videos.
I've being not knowing what to do for years..other than going down a bank
Wish I knew something different to do and making the right decisions
I really appreciate your honesty and the breakdown. Making adjustments on the fly is important and i am getting better at it by spending time on the water and by watching videos that give more information than fish catches. Thanks a lot for sharing!
You bet
Damn todd every video I watch you out do the others I learned so much from this keep em coming
will do
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! That’s what I come to this channel for! You make me think. I respect your ability and confidence to figure out a lake. I learned from you that I don’t have to try to outfish the sticks on a lake doing what the sticks do. That’s a good way to lose. I need to be open to what’s happening on the lake and find a way to make it happen.
Exactly
I'm watching between the OU vs Texas game during the commercials. Haha! I love this. You are answering so many questions for me.
I feel like by you breaking it down, you may get something out of it too. Thanks!!
Awesome! Thank you!
OLD SCHOOL JUICE!! Thanks for your HONESTY! Instinct & strengths are SOOO rewarding!👍😎🇺🇸🇺🇸
Right on
Todd, I like the video, it ties it all together. Plus it gives the viewer a learning experience.
Thanks 👍
Castle rock This is really critical information! Understanding the method of thinking and action.Even more so than what I see on Bass U sometimes. Thanks for taking the time to put this together!
It was fun to make hopefully the others turn out good
In many years of tournament fishing, I bet less than 10% of the time did things go like they did in practice. I love what your doing here because you are giving the whole picture not just how you caught fish.
Thanks you
Love to learn. Thanks for sharing the little (technically big) details. Appreciate it!
My pleasure!
Dude, you weren’t kidding....that was some juice. Thank you, for all of your insight that you share with others.
You bet!
Knowing how/why you guys make the decisions you do is very interesting to me. These are the type of videos I'd like to see more often by many pro anglers. I really appreciated the depth of this video and how its pieced together with the on the water scenes. Great job Todd!
More to come!
One of the best videos ever. I really enjoyed it.
Check out the other "Recap" and "Juice" videos they are just like them.
Great Video Todd!!! Coming from a Tourn. Angler for over 30 yrs., those decisions you make are so important to success. We all have those we wished we would have this or that. Keep Grinding Man!!
Well said!
Great video Todd! Thanks for sharing!
You bet!
Dude very informative. Love how you broke down your thinking process.
You bet
What a great video. This is absolutely "the juice" especially for those of us who love to fish and can't seem to figure out what we might be doing wrong.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the real, honest information and analysis.
You bet
love this video. Just a "scull session" - great insight and portrayal of "afterthoughts" post tourny. Your thinking outloud helps me think also. Great content Todd!!!
Real time in my head might be scary
Thanks for just hangin out and discussing how you were trying to figure it out. It's very interseting to me to figure out how to strikie that balance between over and under-thinking. As a pretty new fisherman, I tend to overthink and overplan and then not be willing to chuck the plan. Nice to see you adjust but also realize you may have been a little slower to adjust than you'de like but at least you adjusted instead of sticking with a plan that wasn't gonna work. I'm gonna try and do the same so thanks again.
Todd great breakdown on how you approached the tournament. This will be a great resource for other anglers to look up to use for themselves or for yourself when you need something to look back on.
You bet!
Thanks for the breakdown. Keep them coming!
You bet!
Great Info.......I would always beat my self up on the drive back home, Knowing that I was off on some minor details, That could have let me finish in the top 10, But man it feels good when everything comes together when your in the ZONE.
Thanks for the Video.
Thanks bud, hope you've been good catching those GIANTS on Fork.
Great Video Todd! More like this one would be greatly appreciated!
You got it!
This was a great video. I would love to see you go back ana analyze the Raburn Open as well. I'll definitely look for the next one of these. Thanks, man.
thank you
Excellent video. Looking forward to more of these.
I’ll do one after every open
Really liked this video. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Thanks Todd!! I really dig your channel because you keep it 100% real, and share valuable info!! This is the kind of info that anglers need.Guys who can't afford Live Scope or have $10,000 to spend on graphs. Especially weekend warriors like myself. Keep it up man!!
I appreciate that!
I’m here for this. I commented on one of Hallman’s videos about doing this. Computer breakdown, practice breakdown, tournament breakdown on 1 video and explain what he was expecting vs what he got on the water and what dictated his choices. I’m also still waiting for part 3 of the frog videos (maybe I missed it) but great video here.
I’m working on it, I have the video just trying to figure out how to put it all together
Thanks Todd. Good puzzle piece video. Keep em comin! 👊🏼
Thanks, will do!
Man. You hooked me with this one. I am a full on subscriber now. Can't wait to see you break down Neely.
I’m starting today!!!!!
These breakdown videos are the best. Please keep them coming. They really help with decision making and putting patterns together. Please make one on time management during a tournament.
thats a good idea
Todd great videos. I love your breakdowns of the day you had on the water. Your breakdown of Hartwell is a example that is sometimes not meant to be.
Thank you
Now this was a great breakdown! Thank you.
Very welcome!
Great video. Explaining the why, not talked about much. Many videos show fish catches and how to tactics, but the why to decision making is not discussed often and may be the most crucial in tournaments.
Thanks
I'm not a tournament fisherman and have no desire to be, but I live for time on the water, and I feel like the way you approached fishing Hartwell is every bit as useful to guys like me! Good stuff Todd, glad you enjoy making these vids because I enjoy them and learn from them... keep 'em coming!
Awesome! Thank you!
Absolutely liked this video. I feel anyone would agree. Ya can't complain if an angler is willing to go through their thought process and decision making for their tournament. It's a great way to help people and teach them how to go hopefully figure things out and make their day as productive as possible.
Thank you
Your welcome!! Keep the great content coming!! I enjoy your just being real about things approach.
Keep doing what your doing brother. Today I figured it out. And saw the way the spotted Bass were setting up compared to the white perch. Spot every drop. That was fun!!!
That’s awesome
Good Video Buddy...Thanks for sharing your insight
You bet
Great video. Pulling for you on your journey.
Thank you so much!
Great info. Love the topic
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! This was as honest a breakdown as I have ever heard. Keep up the good work and keep the content coming!
I appreciate that!
Totally on point. I don’t fish tournaments a lot anymore but this struck a nerve with me. I really never listened to dock talk as I wanted to find my own fish and figure out how to catch them. My problem was trying to make them bite to my strengths... Call it stubbornness I suppose. Nothing more satisfying than figuring them out and bringing 5 big ones to the scale or just crushing them fun fishing. Keep them coming as I’m waiting for your videos....
I try to make them bite to my strengths as well
Love the step by step thought process walk thru
Thanks
I think in the long run that’s what makes us better, you don’t get to experience what you had by sitting at home or by thinking it just wasn’t meant to be, it’s imperative that we come away with something useful, the way you broke this down is also a tool we should be using to our advantage, thank you for that.
Always great content man, much appreciated !!!
You bet
Great video Todd going to Hartwell this weekend to fish our clubs classic hopefully this will help me out. Shallow is more my style anyway.
Good luck!
Great video and great information keep it coming.
You got it!
Great great info about this lake. Hartwell is my home lake and I struggle just like you. I just don’t have the technology to fish those cane piles in the summer moths. Like you said, it’s like fishing the abyss. So I normally stick to the upper end of the lake. Again, thanks for the info on how you broke it down.
There was a lot more to that north end than I realize its just hard to figure out that much water in a few days.
Great information... love the video... I find that on blue back herring lakes on cloudy days and even more so on rainy days fish bottom bouncing baits in those same areas...
problem was I was fishing 1 to 2 foot of water
Copy that... I appreciate the reply... continue to do these videos it's like gold.. thank you
Wow! Great content right here!
Appreciate it!
Loved this Todd, thank you
your welcome
Love this stuff.. Would have loved to have heard how u would have done things differently, baits, techniques etc.. Good luck on Neely Henry, hope to see you at Cherokee. Maybe u will know your schedule for next year by then.. Catch em up in Georgia!
Will try
Awesome info!!!
Thanks for watching!
Good stuff man. Keep em coming.
Thanks
Seldom does an angler share his thought process and decision making, good or bad. Really liked this type of video. Keep it up Todd.
More to come!
Enjoyed the decision making process
Thanks
Great video 👍 bud. Looking forward to Neely Henry tournament myself,it will be first open I've gotten to fish in awhile. Maybe I get lucky and draw you out. Like all you guys videos.
Good luck!
Makes complete sense to me, I've left places before knowing what I did wrong, but figuring it out too late!
happens a lot
Lol your videos strike me me as hilarious because I can see how much you love fishing. I can relate to your thoughts and your process. Good good stuff ! Don't let technology beat you cause them dudes aren't better than you.
Yea but sometimes the advantages are hard to overcome
Great video thanks
What you said it's true? Figuring it out during practice to tournament. Adapting and realizing whats going on. Keep these video up. Some of your videos, you should link the lures your using. Good luck in your future tournament. Come visit MN someday. =)
Will do check out my deep water series
great video ,l think everyone who fish's has that thought going on in there head. Keep'em coming.
Thanks 👍
This week on 'Inside the Mind of Todd Castledine'... Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Looks like you're on your way to 10k subscribers 💪
So close!
Killer Video. This is the juice. like u said so many people get caught up in baits and waypoints and forget to fish the moment or what I call fish the fish.
Exactly
Love it. Helps a lot.
Thank you
Awesome awesome video man!!!
Thanks a ton!
Great stuff.
Thanks!
Great video!👍
Thank you! 👍
Love this video. I struggle on practice days to decide between hooking fish and shaking them off. Hard for me to gauge the size of fish when shaking off. So while I want to save fish for tournament days it’s nice to find areas that hold decent size fish. Plus most of my tournaments are 1 or 2 day events and not necessarily needing 3-4 days worth of fish. Kn a future video would love to hear any thoughts or elaborating on how you view this or decide on this.
Oh my GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My buddies and me talk about this more than anything and how we shake fish off more than anyone we know. We have lots of thoughts on these. Its to long to write out and don't know if I want to make a video. LOL I would love to help you out if you have another way I could get it across to you. I suggest shaking off fish every chance you get.
Love this type of video?
I had a tournament like this once. I got lucky and figured it out early in the day and ended up with a 17lb. Sack. Along with the one 4 lber on Saturday ended up with enough to win.
Good stuff!
Great video!!!
thank you
keep bring'n it Todd!
will do
Really like these videos.
Thank. you
Thank you Todd, good video
Very welcome
Holey jeans, hoodie, no sponsor junk all over, you're growin on me 👊🏾
Really enjoyed the video
Thank you
great video Todd
Thanks 👍
Great stuff
Thank you
This is interesting, I fish most herring lakes and this technique you discovered is used at other herring lakes around, more north west of Hartwell..interesting that you found it on Hartwell, dont hear that alot from that lake!
Really, heck maybe its not the best pattern but I think there is something to it.
If you don’t continue to learn, why get out of bed. Thank you for the honesty, learning from you. Appreciate it man! Stay real.
Always!
Keep it up....loads of help...
Thank you
Todd, great video thanks for sharing. I would love to see a video on the live scope VS the 360 you have. You said this prevented you from fishing that pattern. What does the live scope do that your 360 won’t?
I have an old 360 on there that broke months ago after one use. I haven’t taken it off so I have know idea what a 360 will do but they are definitely different in comparison.
Great video! Love this type of breakdown. If you would have learned this in practice, what bait change would you have made?
Not sure, I just would have changed around more until I found something that would have worked. Problem was I didn't have this happen so I'm not sure if I would have changed that much in practice. If you noticed no one was on the bank so they must have been tough on everyone.
Great video.. being a hartwell local I can't think of to many multi day tournaments won shallow on hartwell no matter what time of year. I thought Jason Christie was gonna pull it off. But lost it on the last day. The shallow fish always seems to be finicky and light sensitive it drives me crazy.
No doubt!
Yes, keep it up!
like the way you told the story of finding and not knowing you were probably on some good fish keep it up
Thanks, will do!
Awesome video Todd. I know its not easy attaining all this info. Does your 360 not allow you to see fish like livescope? Thank again
I don’t have 360 it looks like I do but it doesn’t work
Awesome video....how do you like the mega 360 and do you use it often... thanks man go get em.
My 360 on my boat is broken so I have no idea how good it is, I just havnt taken it off.
Very informative ‘
Thank you
