It's a lovely video but all rather sad. 100 years of Irish independence and this state still hasn't a national primary radar system designed to detect military or criminal elements operating in our airspace and we still have no long range maritime patrol aircraft capable of detecting submarines and patrolling for long periods off our EEZ.

The Irish Army doesn't normally go to war,
      Especially in the air,
So they save money to spend it on their
      Elite Forces,
Because they mostly fight on land, like the golden days,
      When Vikings existed.
Even if there was a war,
Ireland would just keep the enemy off their land.
      And thats it.
Even if they keep pushing, they try.
And they also have a small land.
They dont even own Northern Ireland!
Thats just the look if Ireland (And Britans Land)
Unlike the huge contries, like russia, america, canada, brazil,
      Ect. Ect.
      So there you go,
      Please, think more

Well edited videos and congratulations to the men and women that represented us. But a country with should a high gdp why are we using propeller aircraft as a front line defence. For a nation that is front line defence in the North Atlantic ocean (on map). Why have we not invested in fighter jets to protect our area of interest or our own land from intruders. A PC12 or 9 is not going to stop a Russian bear or typhoon from entering our airspace? So where do we go from here. Invest or rely on the RAF.

Anyways, us aircraft would probably not be the best for us as they have a higher running cost and are usually inferior to some other alternatives with similar or lower running costs.
The SAAB JAS39 Gripen would be a better choice as it is similar to an F-16 in a lot of ways with most features a the same or a bit better as well as amazing radar and technology, it has been shown to be highly effective in war games it has been in as well as can carry both American and European Underwing armaments. It's running costs are pretty low compared to anything close to it and has a decently simple cockpit for a fighter jet.
It has a pretty high cost per unit but Ireland wouldn’t be getting a large force anyway and is more focused on running costs

    • @Joker-yw9hl
      @Joker-yw9hl 2 роки тому +2

The Leonardo M-346FA would be my choice of plane. Around €19m per plane and logistically not too much of a headache compared to the Korean alternatives. The Gripen is indeed superior but possibly overkill for Ireland's needs, and 2-3 times the price

Saab gripens would be better than US stuff for Ireland TBH, EU tax breaks and much more economic/updateable systems. Best for Eire to buy its own defensive jet force together with ground radar, and missile defence systems. Plenty of very suitable European armed jets being built today to escort Russian Bears around Irish territory.

Excellent video. Nostalgic. However once the Irish Air Corps had vampire jets, then armed Fouga Magister jets, now no fighter or defensive jets that can carry ordinance. Just 50 yo anaemic insect propellor aeroplanes suitable for dropping turf on Russian naval incursions or crime gangs moving drugs by air, we have to phone the RAF if we need terrorists or hijacked aircraft intercepted. We have no air 'force', no means of defending against the modern treat of terrorism or international organised crime. It's an embarrassing national disgrace and a joke. Ireland could afford a squadron of 6 Saab Gripen's. 5th wealthiest nation on earth and we can only send cessna's up to defend our sovereign airspace. Has 9/11 thought us nothing? Even during WW2 as a neutral country we had a squadron of top flight Spitfires akin to today's F16s. Neutral countries such as Switzerland and Sweden have proper air forces with defensive jets. We don't even have proper primary and secondary radar cover, RAF do that.
