returning player here, from starry eyed 9-year old who couldn't fathom paying for an online game, to a burntout 22 year-old college student who can finally afford a dragon amulet. i have so many opinions on this game and am very confused why more people don't talk about this game. i mean club penguin was iconic so i assumed dragonfable would have a similar degree of discourse. i will say one thing though: this game grew up with me. the same way i (and many returning players) grew older and experienced playing the game as a 9 year old then immediately experiencing it a young adult, the game itself seemed like it grew up. same characters (some new ones), same world, but things kinda... grew up. i won't spoil any part of the overarching story for anyone, but i can at least confirm that the tone shift was a wonderful surprise. and that's great! if i returned to the game and it were still the same dragonfable built on cute puns, linear storylines, and 2d (in every sense of the word) characters, i would play it for 10 minutes just to satisfy my nostalgia, then leave. and while that game is and will forever remain precious to me, it is not that anymore. it grew up the same way we did: small indistinguishable changes every week. more than a decade later, the result is something engrossing, timely, and well-written, all without resorting to cheap tricks that lesser writers would employ in order to make their work seem more "grown up", like introducing unnecessary s3x and violence. i strongly urge all older players to replay the game.
Yeah the storyline is insanely good. Still playing on and off and if you have any doubts just listen to the music still coming out on UA-cam. Better music than some AAA titles
I went back to the game ~2015, and have played on and off since to catch up on story, Book 3 has really felt spectacular given what the game is, it doesn't completely remove the goofy, punny jokes or anything, but the content of the newer storylines and characters really do feel like they've matured as the game went on
ill never forget when my dad put me onto the original adventure quest when i was like 6 he said hey son come make an accoount on this i sat down like hmm lol didnt know what i was getting myself into. my first rpg
I remember watching my dad play this game back in 2007 or so. For some reason, the bit with the knight in the outhouse stuck with me as one of those memories you're not sure are real or from a dream
Compared to Adventure Quest, I think Dragonfable struck gold with a dedicated team that not only keeps pumping new content on a strict schedule but also dedicate their time and passion to keep the game updated and consistent. I recently watched a video replaying AQ from scratch and... man the game is MESSY! It's a lovable mess, but still confusing, inconsistent and somewhat scatterbrained. Dragonfable lead us with a timeline quite easy to follow, is always updating old content to match the new and the storyline certaintly progressed in maturity without losing the comedic edge.
BattleOn, DragonFable, Adventure Quest World and Mechaquest… I played all of them for hours and hours when I was younger and would still play them lovngly
Fuck yeah man. Unfortunately I'm pretty much past these flash games at this point but I spent countless hours as a kid playing all those titles. My mom yelling at me to get outside in the summer as I would sneak inside to hop on the computer
I started playing Dragonfable in 2007 when I was only 9 years old, and I still play it in 2022. Such a great game, not a huge time investment needed, and will definitely keep playing it until it goes out of style.
I remember this game from back in the day. So many good memories. I remember finishing everything there was in the game at the time and always coming back weekly to do the new content. At some point I stopped coming back. I think I stopped playing after the end of the Orb Saga. Multiple years later I just randomly remembered the game and came back to it once more, but there was just so much more content I didn't know where to begin, so I stopped and told myself "Maybe I'll play it later when I have more time." Now, years later, perhaps it's time for me to log in once again and see what is new. I certainly loved it so much when I was younger and the thrilling storyline kept me engaged.
@@Yixdy Precursor: I got into a nostalgia tangent and started talking a lot about Runescape and Maplestory as well which you may or may not care about. Not the guy you asked, but I have been playing it on and off for years. As a kid my parents would never spend money on a DA but at some point(maybe 4-6 years ago?)I bought a DA pack(for the whole account but frankly I haven't really made more than one account lol) and I have to say it's pretty great. There is another commenter who mentions coming back and realizing the game "grew up" and I think that's a good way of putting it. If you've played maplestory or oldschool runescape, it sort of grew up similarly to those games. They found ways to keep their charm; maplestory's cute graphics and amazing music and the classic 2d sidescroller feel, runescapes somewhat clunky feeling point and click with simple graphics and lots of british humour in an expansive world. Like these titles, Dragonfable still kept it's classic navigation and turn based combat and endless puns and funny jokes. But how they grew up, was by slowly expanding on the worlds they had, and pushing the limits of the platforms they are built. In Maplestory not only did the stories develop massively over time exanding the world and areas, but the bosses got harder and harder(not just with HP although the damage creep in that game is insane, with end game players now hitting tens billions of damage with each skill compared to tens of thousands) by adding new mechanics over time and building bosses that got bigger and bigger. The story developed massively and only a year or two ago the story developed to fighting the black mage as a boss, who was introduced in like 2009 or something as a key villain but back then and even in like 2018 I bet most players never imagined would be a real boss. Also they have some how kept releasing just incredible music which really elevates the game. In oldschoolrunescape it developed a similar way, with them slowly adding harder and harder bosses and expanding on the story, with some of the most classic quests getting sequals(monkey madness 2, dragon slayer 2). The bosses developed to keep the players invested, because as an adult the old boss that had few mechanics were much simpler. Now end game bosses require near perfect movement, prayer switching, gear switching and attacking, which turned this relatively simple game where you just click a monster and it attacks automatically into a game that at times requires 100% focus to stay alive. Dragonfable developed just like those. Without spoiling anything, the storyline got more mature and kept growing, while not losing it's corny puns and lighthearted moments. The bosses got much harder as well, because as a kid getting to level 30 took ages and strategizing the best skills/classes/attacks to use was much more difficult. But as an adult getting to 30 and far beyond feels much much easier, and strategizing against basic bosses wasn't too hard. But eventually the bosses and challenge bosses they started introducing got harder and harder, with some bosses being so hard you may need to get specific gear and pick specific classes to make it work, and just being much more technical than it used to be. If you play it again, it's a lot of fun and you'll feel waves of nostalgia, but it isn't just nostalgia. There is new content, but just like maplestory and oldschool runescape, the new content still feels true to the game you remember, it's just new and more challenging and better overall. It's also a pretty easy game to pick back up if you get bored and take a break.
man i've been watching all your videos and had no idea the oldest one on your channel is about dragonfable. i loved that game and played it on and off until 2022. so nice to know other players are out there with the same fond memories!
Man Dragonfable, I still remember getting super psyched when I found out there's a trainer back in early 2010s, unlocking the dragon amulet felt awesome.
I used to play Adventure Quest obsessively. I even convinced my parents to make me a Guardian, which was like a paid thing that gave you extra stuff. Oh my goodness the nostalgia.
The 3D MMORPG game pretty dam good . I remember this game back in the days, but never bother too try it , probably too busy playing WoW at the time or my Gamecube back then .
As somebody who decided to revisit DragonFable around the time this video came and got immediately hooked again, just like I did when I first played as a kid, there's just something really special about this game and it's not just nostalgia. While all its flaws and outdated parts are really obvious and so upfront you can't ignore, there's also a great world and often even a really intriguing story shining through all of it. And while the early parts are really dated, it really did grow up just like we did, while still retaining its identity. It's also one of the most creative fantasy worlds (even if it's sometimes by sheer size) that upon revisiting the game I realised it ruined most of fantasy for me, for not being as interesting. Also, a small factoid I'd like to add to the video is a specific shoutout to the Dragonfable team, who as far as I know actually operate fairly autonomously from the rest of ArtixEntertainment, mainly the lead writer Verlyrus, and the creative lead Dove (also known as Tomix), who maintain the world and of course everyone else involved.
I always found it awesome that whenever you bought the guardianship, its only a one time payment. My account from when I was like 7 still has it to this day.

Probably has been a good decade or more, since I last played this Game & Adventure Quest, as a kid. It's a good memory of those early 2000s flash games, nice to know the story behind and what's been going on as well.
Literally grew up on games from 97-2010ish and adventure quest was totally one I found by accident. In school before schools knew what to do about kids playing games online we all went to puff games and shockwave and played the street racing game, skull kid which definitely referenced popping a cap in busch, rag doll, and early 2000’s before schools banned “new” RuneScape we’d play when we could. Hell there was even a hot wheels drag race game that was badassss
I've played this game with my friend when it was still fresh out of the box ,I gotta say we loved it and going through holiday updates like Halloween and Christmas was simply awesome ,our childhoods were great ,couldn't believe we could have best of both worlds playing Mechquest and Dragonfable ,it was like all the great cliche's and cheesy jokes in two browser games and it was simply awesome .I downloaded Mechquest and almost completed it again and now I'm returning to Df as well ,these are unique games and they were ahead of their time ,me and my friend concluded in 2008 that 3D versions of these wouldn't make it justice .
Reading these comments I'm glad we all gone through the same shared experiences together individually, and quite literally grew up with the game which hasn't left our side being more than just a fond memory, event though there' are better games in the market I still find myself coming back, ive started out at adventure quest when I was 9 and played all the way till aq3d, the game has been with me since grade school, high-school, college, military and wedding

You should do a video over KOTOR or Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. That is a very old game that still carries an immense following. I remember back in the day my PC could barely play it and nowadays you can play both on your phone seamlessly.
I played the original adventure quest to a pulp as a kid. I remember really wanting to be a guardian and my friend telling me that the only way to become one was to stick a credit card into the CD drive.
the difference between artix games and other free to play games is when you spend real money on it that money actually goes into improving the game. not just into the devs pockets.
❤new here but thank you for this video mate I do fondly remember this I'm 33 coming up 34 but this was my past and cheers for encapsulating this golden era 😂❤❤❤
Oh man. The memories. Kudos to the developers for not abandoning the game in a time where many companies prioritize on creating something new than maintaining something old.
When I was like 8 I was looking for a free online game to play and I literally googled "adventure quest" because I didnt know what an RPG was. I played all of the artix games made before 2012. Dragonfable was always my favorite and the only one whose original storyline I actually completed. Gameplay was eh from the perspective of my more refined adult sensibilites but the story and writing were awesome and still hold up. Loved the Kingsisle stuff too. Lots of great freeish MMOs and rpgs available back in the day. Flash made all kinds of childhood memories possible.
I replayed the ORB saga of Dragonfable a while back and had a great time, paid for the dragon amulet and dodged all the other micro transactions, art direction in Artix games is top notch.
ADVENTURE QUEST!!! MY REACTION TO SEEING THIS VIDEO OMG. You should do a video on Miniclip too !! And linerider ! (Edit: OH SHIT I just realise you DID do a video on miniclip, hell yeah!!!)
DragonFable was the absolute shit when I grew up, with MechQuest on a solid #2 Edit; My favorite class was the mage. Through my main account mage I bought a dragon amulet, and activated 5 other accounts. I've forgotten the password sadly
i remember playing dragonfable when I was 8. always tempted to buy the amulet but doesn't have money. im 24 right now. if they make a android version of dragonfable. Idk how much money I'll spend for this game. I love this game so much
I don’t like the mobile game, I join for MechQuest but I like the click game style, I hope they bring that game style to mobile for MechQuest and don’t change it just make it mobile.
I hate how it always resets your class and they never fixed that :(. Also, if they can develop content, I wish they would fix some bugs but I know that’s too much to ask 😭. I wish dragon fable and mech quest were ported to a new engine or the mobile sphere as remastered versions and they pour their heart and soul back into it but it would require a lot of funds.
That's the problem - everything involves money, and I don't think Artix is a very rich company. Great points though, I hope their games see a resurgence one day.
Fr, I bought and amulet and guardian for my favorite trilogy AQ, DF, and MQ. I can’t wait to delve back into lore and support! It’s so amazing how they took flash beyond its capabilities. I wish that in itself gave them what they needed to grow. What they made back then would be amazing mobile games now. I just want them to upgrade to the future already but who knows.
DragonFable. Now that’s a name I’ve not heard…in a long time.
I literally did not know this still existed.
It was way too good to be lost with flash.
@@JohnSmith-ox3gy you can still play it

When I was like 8 I was looking for a free online game to play and I literally googled "adventure quest" because I didnt know what an RPG was. I played all of the artix games made before 2012. Dragonfable was always my favorite and the only one whose original storyline I actually completed. Gameplay was eh from the perspective of my more refined adult sensibilites but the story and writing were awesome and still hold up. Loved the Kingsisle stuff too. Lots of great freeish MMOs and rpgs available back in the day. Flash made all kinds of childhood memories possible.
Honda's Accord 🤣🤣 (Quest from Shadow of the wind)
It's actually a car model
oh, man. so nostalgic. main reason why i love RPG games now.
Yes!!! This and Runescape!
Yep still alive. So is it still available?
I replayed the ORB saga of Dragonfable a while back and had a great time, paid for the dragon amulet and dodged all the other micro transactions, art direction in Artix games is top notch.
This random recommendation got me revisiting the game.
Idk if this channel was made just to be nostalgia for 90s zoomers but if so great job
you're so underrated man
can't thank you enough man!
ADVENTURE QUEST!!! MY REACTION TO SEEING THIS VIDEO OMG. You should do a video on Miniclip too !! And linerider ! (Edit: OH SHIT I just realise you DID do a video on miniclip, hell yeah!!!)
sir ano is an in joke, referencing *Cyrano* de Bergerac, from the french litreture, hence the odd nose
I suddenly feel.... Old...
Used to play this game all the time, i’m 25 now
I remember I use to beg my mom to buy Mr a dragon amulet
Great retrospective
Artix's Games are great, I love their PG sense of humor.
Felt like I was 7 again when I revisited Dragonfable.
DragonFable was the absolute shit when I grew up, with MechQuest on a solid #2
Edit; My favorite class was the mage. Through my main account mage I bought a dragon amulet, and activated 5 other accounts. I've forgotten the password sadly
Anyone else remember joining the DragonFable beta before it was officially released?
Oh man is adventure quest still a thing? I wonder if i still have my old guardian account
Epic duel was amazing also
I loved this game as a kid man
I summon the Almighty Algorithm to boost this video. Exposure boost +1000!
Seriously, though, great video, I hope you break through soon.
Thank you so much my friend. Just gotta stay consistent and hopefully one of these vids will hit the algo just right
I wish! Algorithm boost!!!!!

Not sure if the ad placed directly after this was intentional, but still made me laugh either way

Mechquest
Bro this is so nostalgic
It really is :')
Yooooo I grew up on that shiz. Never played the other spin-off games but AQ and DF were my jam
i remember playing dragonfable when I was 8. always tempted to buy the amulet but doesn't have money. im 24 right now. if they make a android version of dragonfable. Idk how much money I'll spend for this game.
I love this game so much
My favourite game rn
IMMA TRY AGAIN!
I just revved up a new characted in DragonFable after 17 years of not playing it. Lets see whats new in store for me.
W
Ooo 😮 cool😊
13.7.23
7:08 had me f###king dying lmfao
I wonder if they can write those costumes off of their taxes as "work uniforms"
I really wanna recover my account...
